My old school trick is to do what you did but do it at night in a dark area. Sometimes you can't hear or see the arch. However doing this in the dark you can see the blueish glow from a faulty wire or plug. Great video tho!
My 2001 A3 (EU) has the same setup. I had slight misfires which the dealer didnt even notice really. Issue was a corroded terminal on the coilpack incl. the wire. They only switched the wires and when I asked them "How does the coil part looks like if the cable is already that bad?" Answer: "We didnt see anything..." Yeah... I ordered a new pack without even checking as this was most likely the first one anyway and is prone to fail over time (as you said, cracks and what not). And it sure was slihghtly cracked as well as heavily corroded on that terminal. I checked the new wires and terminals after a while and noticed a fresh buildup of corrosion on that terminal and another. I've used grease around the terminal studs to prevent any moisture or water intrusion but how is that even possible? The two terminals which had no sign of corrosion were hard to get off, whereas the others were easier. I made sure to put them on as best as possible but it seems to me that either the studs are a bit too small or the wire grommet is slighty too big. Anyways, will check that in a few month again to see how the grease worked. Of course, I cleaned the corrosion before putting everything back in. The only issue is that my secondary air pump is right above the coil pack and its a PITA to get off. :(
noticed this too yesterday while i was checking the fitment. i think it's because of improper fitment which causes a spark on the contact stud on the plug which then allows condensate to form.
Guys serious question, I was cleaning my engine bay and I had removed the wires caps to clean the outside. Is it possible that the wires might have gotten dust in them. Before the cleaning the truck was fine 10 mins later it was having a missfure
had this problem on my moped, it was not leading the electricity to the sparkplug, the spark appeared between the sparkplug wire and the radiator fluid tube...dont know how's that possible, i only have 2000km or like ~1000miles...
I sprayed water on old spark plug wires. and saw arching, I replaced the old wires with new wires and the arching continued please help. the video was great! not sure what to do next.
I ordered plug wires on amazon and got 1 really long wire. I installed it but now misfiring could the length of the plug wire be an issue? I just coiled it up In a safe spot.
Hi I need assistance. Spark plug sparks outside the block but when I insert the plug it still misfire. When I remove the leads one by one it runs rough like it want cut out o 1.3.4 it happens but not on plug 2
You're not very clear on your video at all but I'm going to ask a question anyways what does the water have to do with electric problem arcing? What is the water for.
The water is to see the arching better at night so you can track where the arching is coming from more visibly.. And look for cracks in plastic casings etc.
I ripped the rubber boot in half inside the metal insulator and put it back in on top of the spark plug and now that cylinder misfires, I’m sure it’s the wires because I ripped the other spark plug boot and installed it now two cylinders are misfiring (:
I got other way to test those plug leads. No tool needed, all y need is your foot touching ground and move your hand around those leads. Got shocked, yep the wire is bad 😃
It's not the coil pack or wire for that cylinder. If you have coil packs check the signal going to the coil pack. If it's plug wires check your distributor.
OMG swap it like plug in another one to the wrong cylinder don't do that anybody. If you mean take whole wire remove it put it in the place of another okay I guess but don't listen to this guy

Thank you I'll be spraying tomorrow
Can bad spark plugs and bad coil packs give the appearance of a knocking sound.??? Just curious

Sometimes it doesn't show a misfire on a scan tool!
Spraying water is a good tip, but you should have waited on the release of this video until you had an example of the problem.
This car had previously had that problem but we were not able to duplicate it when we were shooting

Replace the wires…
@@Clamjammer thinking about replacing everything now!!
One loose plug wire can cause the check engine light to come on.

What can that be

OBD *ELEVEN*??? My dude... smh
It’s the name of an Audi/VW scan tool. My dude... smh
My car engine plug wire are damage pleaze to tell me. how i repair this wire
Replace them.

So here's a stumper. I moved the coil, no change still on cyl 4, moved the wire, still on 4, changed the plug, stull on 4. LS engine.

So nobody's gonna tell him that spraying water on a electric unit could cause a internal short to the computer
No, cuz it won’t lol
There’s no such thing as obd eleven 😹
You should check this out..... Its called OBDeleven ; )
