New Balance SC Elite v4

- For the fourth time in four years, New Balance is completely redesigning their premier super shoe. This year, they're brining full PEBA midsole and a thinner carbon fiber plate to the Supercomp Elite v4. It fits more like a daily trainer, and it doesn't feel as aggressive as its competitors, but it's a quiet performer that I think will be easy to recommend to a wide variety of runners. Don't sleep on this one.

The floating shoe shots are next level.
I like them, but I'm not sure I'll continued doing them. they make shoe filming take twice as long

For someone with 2E wide feet, this makes me EXTREMELY happy to be able to try a carbon plated shoe!!!
I appreciate the review and agree with all of it. The quiet confidence in this shoe without it feeling wild is like it has a professional temperament. Not like pro runner, but like a mature business professional. It just gets it done without making noise about it.
I got this one because it fits my odd feet better than any other race day shoe. Great shoe for the wide foot fam, IMO.
Yesss agreee!! I believe it’s got a 2E Wide version as well!
Marathoners might feel a little more confident of going the full distabce.
I love the reviews, and they are super helpful. You can really see how professionalism and expression are evolving with each review. It's fascinating how detailed and accurate one can describe the feel of a shoe. I never thought someone could influence my buying decision so much. When I buy and test the shoe, I always get exactly what I expected - thanks kofuzi.
I'm glad to hear it's been helpful for buying shoes!
Wow, the redesign looks amazing. It was already a good-looking shoe, but it looks great this year.
Love the review! Thank you once again Kofuzi!
thanks for watching!
I love the close-up take where you have the freshfoam, rebel, and sc elite
I can’t wait to get some. NB has become my favorite for all shoe types, even just lifestyle shoes.
SC elite v3 is my first super shoe. My feet are fussy and this shoe fits great and doesn't aggravate my arches or anything else. One thing I love is that it just disappears on my foot and I don't really think about it. I'm happy to hear you feel the same about v4. I have almost 400 miles on V3 so I'll be picking up the new ones soon!
It’s gotta be one of the most attractive shoes that’s come out in a long time. I love the colorways and abstract style design
Nicee review as always. Cant wait for your review on the Hoka Cielo X1. Would love to see how you compare the two
very different
Good Intro. Like to see a company in hyper-thinking mode. 😎
Just bought my pair and trying them out this afternoon. I hope they’re a good replacement for my AP3 until the release of AP4. Sending lots of love from Manila Philippines 🇵🇭 ❤
Glad to hear the PEBA in these are an improvement over the PuddingCell foam in the Rebel V4. 😁
I am too. there are too many instances where we hear "peba" and get excited, only to be let down. fortunately, that is not the case here
Rebel V4 is pudding??? I've been counting down the seconds for the UK release. This isn't good
Was waiting on this one
Thanks Kofuzi! I just love the Endorphin Pro 3! Even with the 4 coming out I would still get the 3. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review Kofuzi! Back in the time I choose to run with the sc elite v2 because of your review :) still loving it!! Which newer super shoe do you think can replace the easy going rc elite v2?
sc elite 3
I like the color. Good video bro.
I am going to buy this one after hearing your review. Honestly wasn't even considering after the previous models. Second tier for me in the race shoe world. Gonna wait for some of the new colorways...
Interesting. If nothing else, it's a gorgeous shoe. Any word on whether it will be available in wide fit for us toe splayers? I'm so hesitant to get racing shoes because I'm worried how my toes will fare all cramped in under a carbon plate. Do you think the regular version is wide enough?
I've heard mixed things about the Saucony Pro, some say the fit is accommodating, others say it has a narrow toe box and that the Saucony Elite is actually more accommodating of splaying feet.
Right now I;m using the Rebel v3 as my tempo shoe, and the Saucony Speed (wide fit, not available on the pro) as my tempo/ long run at race pace shoes. I have the New Balance 1080 as a daily/recover runner, but this seems to be very different in feel from that shoe.
Did you find the weight noticeable?
Love your reviews Kufuzi. 💕
Hopefully you will have a shoe giveaways for your fans/subscribers, grealtly appreciated like me who loves running but no budget for a shoe. Thank you 😊
Best shoe reviewer on YT
Nice review !
Wow! Is this the first carbon-plated, super shoe available in wide sizes? Must have this shoe.
Elite V3 is my all time favorite shoe! (I wear other shoes only to take wear and tear off the Elites.) Sad to see they got rid of the stylized bird wing logo. Huuuge step backwards aesthetically. And that's not something to underestimate. V1-V3 looked fast. And if a shoe looks fast, I feel fast. And if I feel fast I _am_ fast. Maybe the New New Balance simply means I get to stockpile Old New Balance for cheap!
Love my v3 but change is good
wat makes v3 ur fav ever ? have u tried the v4 yet? if so how do u compare em?
Ditto here but the SC trainer causing some toe rubbing and might have to go.
I tried the SC Elite v4 on in store alongside the Cielo X 1. I don’t really gripe too much about weight, so that was not an issue with me. I ended up with the Hoka because it just felt more exciting and novel for an A/B step-in. However, what you’re saying about the SC Elite v4 has me eager to try the SC Pacer v2 when it comes out later in the year. That one sounds like it has some serious potential.
The architecture of the sole is absolutely wild 🙃😍🤩 💣💥

Great review! Matches pretty closely to what I felt in my first run in the V4 today. These will be replacing the V3s as my race shoe. I think the V3 feels more comfortable at slower paces but the V4 really wakes up for me at faster paces.
Great review and was waiting for you to do this one! You mentioned taking it down to 5k paces , thoughts on it being an option for races from 5k to half?
I would prefer something more aggressive if I were going to do multiple races at those intensities
@@kofuzi thanks! Metaspeed edge+ has been my go to for those distances especially 5k to 10 miles races. Ready for something new and tempted to get another pair , but hoping we see a new version soon. Seems that way with the chatter and what was on asics athletes last weekend
Even more happy they bring PEBA foam ( almost 20% I guess) into Rebel v4 as daily trainer. Just waiting for official release in Malaysia
With the comparison to the Saucony Pro 3, I finally figured out who has yet to send you a sample pair of shoes. If so, I hope you get them soon. Looking forward to the review.
Hey Ko, my girls is running her first marathon this year, would you recommend this for her? She has run various 13.1 close to 2:20
Damn I just got the rebels definite game changer for me I can't wait to get the Sc 4's
Lack of chaos 😮 on point bro ❤
but sometimes I crave chaos
I love their new edgy design. Kinda futuristic. Do you think it'll suit a slower runner like around 9-10min half marathon pace?
yes
❤I will save up for these shoes
hope you can run in them soon!
They’re all over marketplace in Australia for a quarter of the price cha Ching!
Great review. Would you recommend SC Elite v4 over adidas primex 2 strung for a novice for the first carbon plated shoes
No
I have both the v.3 and now the v.4 and although my first impression of the v.4 was underwhelming it has, as you mentioned, grown on me fast. The upper is by far better, for me, than the v.3 which I had two hot spot areas, one which required "surgery" on my part. I do think the v.3's midsole was more "fun" (bouncy and cushioned), but the v.4 is going to be a great marathon shoe and having done my long runs in them I can tell I will, as usual with NB, not ever have to think about my feet. As for pairing, I would substitute the 1080 v.13 instead of the More v.4 because the latter is just a bit too clunky and heavy for me. BTW, I have the Endorphin Pro 3 and much prefer the NB SC Elite v.4. Thanks for your review and happy running.
I've thought about the 1080v13 as the pairing option, but the way they've changed the 1080v13 makes it feel more like an alternative to the Rebel v4 rather than a complement. but it is pretty comfy, so I could see it in the way you describe
very cool shoe = it looks super cool
I love the low poly design
I just came back from my first 10k in the endorphin pro 4, great shoes, but now I’m very curious about the sc elite 4, omg so much good shoes thx for the review Mike, great as always 👍
it's a good time to be a runner. so many options
@@kofuzi 💯😁👍
NB pricing makes so much more sense in the US, it is $80 more expensive in the UK.
Is that because of brexit or import fees in general?
@@jesustsa1 it's the same across Europe. This shoe costs $310 in Poland. Doesn't make sense.
There's got to be some red tape derived premiums involved, which is probably an issue across Europe, but NB seem to be the worst for price discrepancies between markets.@@jesustsa1
Interesting information about the new nb SC elite v4. At Europe= 280€=Crazy expensive. Like to Kofuzi. Have a great day.
thanks for watching
Just bought it and I’m lost with sizing. I got my normal size and it’s just on the limit, not sure I can complete a marathon with it but the half size bigger is way to big. Anyone else having t similar issue and any advice ?
I just bought these to try. I want them for my long-distance days and race day shoes. I've been using the Nike Vaporfly. Can anyone compatible the 2 of you've used both?
Is the foam upgrade a good idea? I think the v2 and v3 was an amazing durable foam. Wonder how this will hold up
good question
more v4 ur fav ever max cush? wat about comparing it to the nimbus?
🔥🔥🔥
Trying to decide between this and the Endorphin Pro 4 ???
Thoughts on the wide options? Not many Carbon options for those of us with wider feet ? Thank you
Picked up V3 Elite on sale currently-wear 2E. Awesome shoe. Put it on and just doesn’t feel fair. Lots of pop with true 2E width. No hot spots.
Great take. I def think this will be a great racing shoe for those who like you said, have their form struggle near the latter part of a race. A lot of racing shoes are very unforgiving when your form starts to deteriorate.
very true, and it can almost feel like you're suffering a speed penalty at that point
How does the toebox volume compare to SC Trainer V2? SC Trainer is the only shoe that fits like a glove on my weird feet and am very nervous about redesign.
SC Elite v4 is taller. Rebel v4 is the closest, if you have that available as a try-on option near you
@@kofuzi Thanks for the suggestion, Mike. I will check the rebel out when available. March I think. Also, why would NB not release the all white version of these shoes!! I think those were the best.
For the price point, i wonder how many miles is its lifespan.
Kofuzi looks like Aoki the Japanese DJ twin brother 😂😂😂😂
I'll take that as a compliment, although I'm sure it wasn't intended as such
If you had to run a marathon tomorrow, which one would you wear of these ?
Metaspeed sky+
Endorphin speed pro3
SC elite v4
Something else?
Thanks
hope you enjoy the video!
Just answer his question man
He ran his PB in Asics so...
Yeah, but that was way before the other 2 shoes made it in his top recommendations.
How many miles did you have in Rebel V4 at the moment of filming? Creasing looks quite bad.
50? plus an evening of post-marathon-trials afterparties
Didn't like the fit of the upper too much excess space for my feet anyway. Went for the Pro4 instead , it's released here in the UK already.
and how do you like it?
@kofuzi only arrived today , fits my foot nicely, 1st run will be Saturday, can't wait !! Big fan of the Pro 3 so interested to see how it compares.
The elite V3 is my TM shoe of choice..I too am a fan of knit uppers..the V3 is doesn't have the forefoot cushioning for racing, but it's great for TM running..as long as they don't ruin that fuel cell squish V4 will be for me..
other shoes with knit uppers?
@@io-rj6sk asics gel nimbus 23..alphafly V-1 and V-2..
Liking the look of this from the viewpoint of a stability runner.
I've put about 40 miles on the Sc v4 and the rubber is already worn on the heal
On the SC V3 I felt like I had to put in more effort to run faster paces because of the squish of the foam. Is there a shoe you would compare it to in terms of responsiveness?
I'm not sure I understand the question. you want another shoe like the SC elite v3? it doesn't sound like you liked it
@@kofuzi My mistake. What shoe would you say the responsiveness of the SC V4 is comparable to?
What would you recommend for a 1st marathon? This NB SC elite V4 or Adidas adios pro 3?
knowing no other information besides that it's your first, I'd lean towards the SC Elite v4. it's more approachable for more types of runners
Is this good for flat feet? The alpha fly 3 gave me terrible shin splints
I need to know the answer to this too!
how does the 4mm drop feel? true to drop or more/less?
true to drop is a phrase I've not heard before, but I'd say it's true to drop for a peba shoe.
4mm in a peba race shoe isn't the same as 4mm in a Bondi
I went up a half size in the V3, but don't feel the need to do that in the V4 - have you felt the same?
Nope. I went with the same size in each. The shoes have different fits, but I felt most comfortable in the same size
A more stable option?
Bummer they got rid of the knit upper it was truly something special and made the V3 stand out from all the other shoes
I think you and I are the only ones who wanted knit. I talked with NB about this on several occasions. I love knit.
Personally, this shoe isn’t a fast racing shoes(5k-10k-21k). It’s more of a cruise control type of shoe for the marathon. The more voluminous fit should help with the swelling of the feet and the less aggressive feeling will be appreciated at the end of the race when your running form start to get sloppy. As you say, it’s a shoe that grows on you.
I'm not sure the prefix of "personally" is needed here. it's a marathon shoe.
SC ELITE v4 or Fuel Cell Rebel v4? which would you choose if you only have to pick just one
rebel 4, as it is an all purpose shoe, whereas the sc elite 4 is a shoe designed for racing
For slow runner(4:30 min/km or slower) like me, comfort and stability go first for race day shoes.
is 4:30 min/km considered slow?
@@io-rj6sk Not fast enough to qualify for Boston.
I want to try to new Pacer and Trainer😍😍
Hoping its an improvement from the V3s i found them horrible to run in
Let me know how what you think once you’ve tried them
SC ELITE V4 OR Asics paris series???? What do you think is better for forefoot and in terms of durability
If by barefoot, you mean without socks, then I might go with the SC Elite 4. For durability, assuming you mean foam longevity and not upper durability, then Sky Paris
no, i mean for me as a forefoot strike which do you think is better ?
btw thanks man
@@kofuzi
How do you compare this with Mizuno Wave rebellion pro 2?
like opposites
What you think compare to metaspeed sky plus?
I love the metaspeed sky plus. my last three marathon PBs are in metaspeed sky and its progeny. but when I talk about how some shoes are wild (and that I like wild), metaspeed and adios pro are what I'm talking about
but I think the SC Elite 4 is quite good shoe. I anticipate that a lot of people will likely start out lukewarm to it but then end up loving it over time
Thanks @kofuzi . I ran in the first meta speed sky love it. When I ran in SC v4 kinda too much foam for me
@kofuzi how about compare to the adizero prime x2 strung?
Looking for my first carbon plated shoe for my first marathon any recommendations?
Probably this one or the year prior. Cushy, some pop, and a comfy upper.
this is a pretty good place to start
my recommendation is to not just take a recommendation but to try them on and test them out, also in a very long run. Every foot and biomechanics are different, for me the Vaporfly 2 did not fit (1 and 3 are fine), the Adios Pro 3 gives me blisters unless I wear very thick socks, Endorphin Pro 3 rocker doesn't match my metatarsal joint and so on. Look for top tier shoes and depending on budget current or last years version. I would count Alphafly, Vaporfly, Adios Pro, Endorphin Pro 3/Elite, Metaspeed Sky/Edge, Rocket X 2 (not 1), SC Elite 4 (not 1-3), Cloudboom Echo 3 (not 1,2) and Fast-R2 as top tier but that is up for debate.
I agree vehemently with @run-o-phil that everyone needs to go to a brick and mortar store to compare all these shoes on your feet, with your gait (most stores have a treadmill but many also allow you to run outside) at various paces. Reviews such as Kofuzi’s are extremely helpful in narrowing down the options, but ultimately our biomechanics are unique and varied and you will know very quickly which ones work for you-and more critically, which ones to eliminate from consideration. If you’re lucky to have an independent running store with a good selection of at least many of the options and a staff comprising real runners and shoe geeks, they will help you with sizing (which varies considerably not only between brands but in same models year to year) and they will accept returns if a shoe doesn’t work out for you. Finally, my favorite such store gives me a sizable “club”/loyalty discount which is particularly significant on these high-priced super shoes. But again, the main point: try them on for yourself.
Still rocking the v2
Same here. 533 KMs/331 miles. But about to die tho 🥲
Is there any other coloways to come
I have no knowledge but I would assume yes
Hi Mike, what is the lifespan of these?
Your mileage will vary. I’d expect racing in them up to 150 miles of total use. After that, still probably good for another 100 of workouts
@@kofuzi thank you 😊
This or Saucony Endorphin Elite?
I prefer the elite, but I like wild
Is it true to size? Like sc elite 3?
is it true to size? yes
like sc elite 3? no
@@kofuzi no no sir i mean the size is the same like sc elite 3 right? true to size
I wonder why it's so much more expensive here in the Philippines.
Price theory is so unbelievably complex
They look really similar to the adios pro 3’s
I don't see it, but I hear that a lot
4mm drop!!! what the h-e double hockey sticks.
are you happy or mad?
@kofuzi Shoe look really cool...but my calves will very upset lol.
280 euros here in NL, way expensive 🤦🏻♂️
Running shoes are just becoming ridiculous in price. At least put some tread on them that can last over 100 miles. I loved my sc fuelcell trainers but the tread was terrible and for the sc elite 3 the sock style of liner was annoying. Happy to see the new style but have my doubts still
I think a lot of people agree with you and demand more durability from pinnacle race product.
I firmly disagree, but I can see your point.
It is like ADİDAS ADIZERO PRIME X 2.0 STRUNG SHOE
I ran in the prime x2 strung as recently as this week, and I'd say SC Elite v4 is very much not like prime x2 strung
1st. Yo, what’s going on!!!!
yo Luis!
The midsole looks so bulky when i saw someone using it
do you want a 40mm stack height shoe or not?
New balance screwed up again. Wait for brooks
Highlighter colorway? Wtf is new balance smoking?
Just like the Cielo X1, these brands can’t keep coming out with Vaporfly and Alphafly competitors that are over an ounce heavier. I don’t care what tech they say they added to it to make the weight not as noticeable, like the Cielo X1 and the aggressive rocker, you can’t make up for being that much heavier. The Vaporfly is still king, almost 2 ounces lighter than this and over 2 ounces lighter than the Cielo X1. Whoever is in marketing and engineering at these companies needs to be more aggressive with saving weight
Are you angry as you are writing this? I read it as angry, but I don’t know if something is off in my reading comprehension lately. I think I need a reset or recalibration.
@@kofuzi haha definitely not angry but I could see how it can be taken that way. More just disappointed! I want the super shoe market to be more competitive for non-sponsored elites, people who really care about pure performance! No one is truly competing with Nike or Adidas
Kinda looks like a Adios pro 3
I get that a lot from comments on UA-cam. i'm not sure the similarities are as prominent irl, but maybe I'm just hypersensitive to whatever I think looks like low poly art (which I love) and things that are just angular
It may look a little like it but certainly does not run like it - btw they should focus on their own and not try to copy off of top proven marathon shoes - yes there is a little borrowing that always goes on but be your own and not someone else's shoe.
I’ll get hate but one of the many problems w saying 250$ is “fantastic” for a heavy racing shoe when it isn’t is your ‘influencing’ everyone including the brands to think if 250 is fantastic then 300 is still “good” see where I’m going
but $300 shoes (and $500 shoes) already exist
I have many thoughts, but can you clarify whether you are concerned about rising prices? or do you think $250 is the wrong price for the SC Elite v4?
I'm just not sure which conversation we're having.
$250 for a shoe that's gonna wear out after 300-400 miles is kind of steep bro, real talk
wait till someone tells him that race shoes don't usually last 300 miles
Extremely concerning that your smaller size is over a half ounce more than what they're reporting for larger sizes
Unless he measured it after running. The moisture content can add a surprisingly high amount of additional weight. Ko?
I agree that it is extremely concerning
Martha, we weighed it live on the livestream, remember? there's reels of it on IG and UA-cam shorts
In Canada this is 330$ lmao
what's the US$ conversion rate atm?
Couldn’t tell you … the thing is our salary are pretty much on par with the usa so more expensive of course … but it is what it is to me its the price that supershoes are … vaporfly 3 339.99$ … c’oudboom echo 3 369.99$ …
New Balance still hasn't nailed it with this one, there's always something that is not quite on par with other options on the market.
Love your videos, but you talk too fast.
I get that a lot
$250 is a "fantastic price". smh
I've spent three years clarifying that, of course, $250 is a lot of money to pay for a shoe...
Nobody is stopping you running a marathon in crocs
@@kofuzi It's clearly not a reflection of the shoe prices which are cheaper adjusted for inflation than they were 30 years ago; it's just a reflection on the fact that inflation since 30 years ago has doubled the price of shoes.
@@liiou4445 is that the only alternative to $250 shoes??? Or is that more like "how dare you criticise the price of a shoe! Run in crocs and shut up"? Either way, that's an unusual response
It's 280 in euro, which makes it 20-60 euro more than the Vaporfly 3.
