    You will only destroy your transmission if you throw it into reverse or park while in motion. On some cars the next option is D3, which just limits the automatic shifting to a max of 3rd gear, then 2 and 1 actually selects those gears.

    I always used that function. Start a journey from L and shift to 2, 3 and finally D. Similarly when I going to stop I will shift the gear from D to 3, 2 and if necessary I will used L. This function is call engine breaking system as explain in the manual. This car is a Semi Automatic. Which means you can start the journey immediately in D position but you will need more RPM to move the car. The function of L actually act like a first gear. When a car in idle position you should do start moving your car from L position. As the car go faster then shift the gear to 2, 3 and then D. Semi auto car is only remove the clutch function but the used of gear still follow the rules of a manual car. Even in manual car your can start moving your car even in 4 gear but with a lot of effort. The only car literally use immediately D gear position is the Full auto car which the full auto car only got P-R-N and D gear shifts. The reason why many people start their car in semi auto car in D because most are lazy to read the manual that resulted the the gear shifting manual nowadays had changed to suits most people expectation that a semi auto car should start the journey in D gear position. If you driving in hilly area, you will have a lot of problem if you only relying on gear D. This was just my experienced handling cars that range from manual to semi auto, and the full auto cars. Things to remember, every car has its very own way of handling.

      You are thinking D gear as a forth gear believe me it isn’t 😬 (When you are in D gear car will automatically shifts gears starting from the 1st gear that’s how automatic transmissions work)

    The reason why you didn't experience a jump in RPM when you shift from D to three is because you were already in three. You weren't going fast enough to be in D. That's at least what I think. D on a Corolla usually kicks in around 70 km per hour. At least to my experience.

    I just start on 1 and as the rpm goes higher to the right amount i shift to 2 then so on with D3 and D4. But when im trying to race the thing, I launch the car at 1 then before it hits redline i shift to 2 then before it hits the redline i shift to D3 then when i get around 80mph i switch to D4, then after i reach 100mph i switch back to D3 and keep going until i reach to 110 - 115mph and switch back to D4 and then keep going until i wanna let go of the acceleration.
    I know the car isnt really meant to be a racer when i only have a cold air intake behind the bumper and stock everything else. But im getting another trany soon and buying an engine from my friend with the exact same car with 140k. My engine currently has 229k. Im also getting a spec d exhaust later and i might even dyno tune it a bit after i fix it up. But that Vipers coming in first 🐍👀

    • @InnoRative
      @InnoRative  3 роки тому +21

      When you are going downhill, slow down and change gear to L or 2 depending on level of slope then you will feel like your car is heavy and not moving on its own freely, now you will use brake less harder to prevent it from moving fast and because of it your brakes won't have to work harder to slow down the car as engine braking is also doing its part to slow down the car.

    Do you have too take your foot off the gas as you downshift or can you keep your foot on the gas and downshift??

    • @bensnow2688
      @bensnow2688 Рік тому +1

      You probably CAN do it with your foot on the gas petal, but you probably shouldn’t. Most of the time when people use the shifter to manually downshift it’s to benefit from engine braking, so you wouldn’t have your foot on the gas petal anyway. Engine braking works by creating a vaccume in the cylinders that the pistons have to work against, thus producing drag (this is also why it’s most effective right after downshifting and the RPM’s spiking). But if you are giving the engine gas this can’t work. I guess if you were downshifting to get more power for acceleration it could make sense to do it with your foot on the throttle. But i would still personally take my foot off the gas for the split second that I was shifting.

    • @bensnow2688
      @bensnow2688 Рік тому +1

      Realized I missed something: when you’re hitting the gas petal, you’re actually letting a mixture of gas AND air into the cylinders. And when you take your foot off the petal, the flow of both gas and air is cut off, resulting in the vacuum in the cylinders

    It won’t hurt anything just read up on your cars manual cause every cars different. Example in my car I have PRND321 on the shifter and it’s pretty simple all the 321 do is lock the transmission from shifting to the next gear. Example if I shift to 2nd the transmission won’t go past 2nd gear so once second is achieved the RPMs will start too increase like in a manual if you don’t shift gears. In my car I figured out the gearing with the speed and I live in Canada so I’m going by KMH not MPH. So 0-20km is 1st gear 20-40km roughly is 2nd gear 40-60km roughly is 3rd gear 60-80km roughly is 4th gear anything higher then 80km the RPMs start to rise past 2000 RPMs if the car had more gears the RPMs would stay down more at higher speeds. Reverse I can go 0-50km before RPMs start to climb to high. Normal RPMs for each gear is roughly 1500 RPMs but strangely if I drive in D at 70km the RPMs drop too 1000 RPMs but go back up to 1500 on any other speed maybe 70km on D matches engine speed just find it odd there. So yea how it works it’s helpful to use on hills if you are going 50km down a hill shift down to 2nd if you use what I said above here the engine will slow you down and you won’t need to touch the brakes saving your brake pads from ware. Going up a hill very slow try 1st give you most torque without up shifting on you and engine RPMs will stay low. In my cars manual it says I can drive in 3rd at any speed 2nd only up too 90km and 1st no more then 40km without damaging the transmission.

      Any update? I just started doing this recently but I shared your concern that downshifting manually too much could harm the transmission. However, I recently looked at my owners manual (for my Honda CR-V) and it is mentioned that the driver can do this and did not mention any potential risks. Obviously you can’t do it foolishly and downshift too while you’re too fast, but if done properly I’m pretty sure it’s fine.

      @@bensnow2688 The semi-auto car, When a car in a high speed. If you accidently changed the gear per say from D to 2. The car would not change the gear immediately. It will take some time to react, it is about 10 second. Some time I accidentally shifted the gear to a lower gear for my Toyota Rush it will take some time for it to respond, so you still can shift the gear to an appropriate gear. I have no idea for other car brand. But, for the full time auto like Hyundai Elantra 1.8, the response is almost immediately. My Toyota Innova is almost reaching 9 years and the toyota centre where I bring my car for servicing, they still not advice me to change the brake pad. Yes, you are right, the gear shifting must always done properly.

      Nothing actually, it will turn the reverse lights on and that's it, unless you are at a very slow speed, between 0 and 5 to 10, it will not engage, also, at speed of 10 it doesn't seem to damage the transmission, it will just whine down, anywhere above that it is in neutral but with reverse lights on, now park will make an annoying grind sound.

    Good day sir can i ask something, i have a car with same 4 gear only automatic transmission with manual mode also, i pass a road with a mild to moderate uphill lane im running at 100km/h and i shifted to manual mode when i reach to moderate uphill road i depress the gas pedal and change to manual mode and shifted to 3rd gear at i think 90km/h and turning to 4th gear after 100kmh is it okay or it will be harmful to my car?

    • @InnoRative
      @InnoRative  3 роки тому +2

      If you are going above the speed a gear is meant for like even if you are going 100km/h and you shift it to 1st gear it will automatically choose 2nd or 3rd gear which ever is appropriate so it doesn't matter and it doesn't harm anything as they have implemented a system which will prevent it from happening
