    Duke: You know all there is to know about fighting, so there's no sense us going down that same old road again.
    To beat this guy, you need speed - you don't have it.
    And your knees can't take the pounding, so hard running is out.
    And you got arthritis in your neck, and you've got calcium deposits on most of your joints, so sparring is out.
    Paulie: I had that problem.
    Duke: So, what we'll be calling on is good ol’ fashion blunt-force trauma.
    Horsepower.
    Heavy-duty, cast-iron, piledriving punches that will have to hurt so much they'll rattle his ancestors.
    Every time you hit him with a shot, it's gotta feel like he tried kissing the express train.

    What i like so much about this training scene is you see a tired Rocky, despite all the will he has who can't lift as much as he used to be, but eventually with enough training and patience start to catching up on his youngness and gradually succeeding. The acting is great and well done right here, you don't see a "Superman" magically lifting weight easily but you see a man with a HUGE age barrier in that training and you can clearly see it, especially at 1:12 where he STRUGGLES or at 1:20 failing the weightlifting and Duke saying "don't worry you'll get it" , or 1:26 & 1:40. This is powerful.

    The thing I always loved about this is that it is theoretically feasible that Rocky's "hurting bombs" would be a thing in real life - older men tend to have much higher bone density than younger men. Because of this, it's entirely plausible that Rocky's hands would have more mass to them and make them much more effective at doing damage than Mason's hands.
    ...Essentially, Rocky is weaponizing his old age against Mason. It's beautiful.

  • @bradycryer3276
    @bradycryer3276 4 роки тому +62

    It's interesting how the goals of Rocky's training here differ from all his previous training sessions. While in the past he could afford to assume that he would have rough parity with his opponents in regards to speed, this time his opponent, Mason Dixon, would be guaranteed to be faster than him by virtue of being in the prime of his life while Rocky would be in his 60s, and had been retired for more than a decade on top of that. No matter how many punches Rocky threw at him, Mason WOULD throw more at Rocky.
    So he disregards speed. If Rocky would never be able to beat Mason on points, then the Italian Stallion would have to make sure every one of his punches that connected would HURT to a far greater degree than Mason's punches. It's just like Tony said.
    "So what we'll be calling on is good old-fashioned blunt force trauma. Horsepower. Heavy-duty, cast-iron, piledriving punches, that'll have to hurt so much, they'll rattle his ancestors. Every time you hit him with a shot, it's gotta feel like he tried kissing the express train. Let's start building some hurting bombs."

    It's not matter how old you are , as long as u can still deliver a punch to the face then you have to keep training and fighting , not against your opponent but against your own age and time .
    Thank you rocky I will try to remember that 50 years later if I would be alive until that
