Really lovely aircraft. Fulfils the axiom "If it looks right, it flies right". Just started flying mine and already love it. Thank you for the customary effortless fluid and insightful delivery.
Very nice little aircraft, Kudos to OrbX and the developer. I took mine out for several weeks touring the airstrips in the Canadian high arctic. The only challenge was range which is about 400+ nm if memory serves. One needs to plan the tour carefully with that in mind. Re: the auto-pilot, I found it helpful to read the Garmin documentation which cleared up my confusion about how to acquire and hold altitude. BTW, do you have a rundown on your rig somewhere. I'm looking to make some upgrades and I'd love to know what you're running! Thanks for the review!
I was waiting for any video about this plane, very glad you have the first! Modelling looks stunning indeed. I watched a video about the original plane earlier, and it really looks identical. Orbx say they got the original CAD files, makes sense. Cannot say I am exceited about the G3X, but the great performance of the Blackwing might just win me over. Hope somebody will create a mod to lighten the canopy tint, looks very dark to me. The reflections seem a bit irritating as well ... And the engine loss was surprising. Question: Did you find any documentation?
@@jonbeckett I'm looking at it on the orbx website because your video makes me think I might be interested after all, the user manual is at the bottom of the product page. Seems quite comprehensive for sim purposes, and fwiw the landing checklist includes Fuel Pump: BOTH (up position). It also says that aerobatics are prohibited along with FIKI and IFR (it's a sim, bring it on!) but doesn't say what ESP is.
Nice review. I'd like to say that I'm going to get this plane after watching your video, but I already planned on getting it. That's what I'll be doing after this. I still enjoy watching your videos even if I own what you're reviewing. Your system freeze could be from a program kicking in, in the background. Cool plane and real, unlike the Mike Patey inspired Vertigo. My favorite. 350kts cruise 1200nm, rocket ship! I looked through the channel and didn't see a vid on the freeware Got Friends JMB VL-3 Vertigo.
@@jonbeckett Now i have had time to try her out , i have to say my only criticism would be that it still seems to run away on Taxi on idle . Im no pilot but i doubt that would be realistic . To the real manufacturer and Black wings on MSFS 2020 , maybe and just my thoughts but some air brakes might not go a miss . That would make her more agile in all manoeuvres as she is a slick and aerodynamic bird . Might help in stopping over speed , in sim and maybe in real life .
Just got it and I already love it. Just one problem: Gear lever moves, gear itself won't retract. Flaps up, gear down...makes for long slow flights, but easy landings. I do find the ground is usually where I left if, if not where I want it to be. Great review, as always.
Same thing happens to me with the Red livery. Not sure why. Also had it this morning with the Grey livery the first flight with the simulator this morning. Should report that to Orbx.
I've had the same issues, emailed MSFS a week ago and haven't heard back from them. From now on, I'm buying my planes directly from the creators if possible.
Hi there....Are you going to make a cold & dark startup video on the ATR once it's released on Microsoft Flight Simulator along with the how to set up autopilot & etc?
I was having random 30 second freezes on the game myself. And I found deleting the scenery download cache fixed that for me, might be worth a try. I saw a few people mention it on the flight sim forums.
Jonathan, loving all your videos, thanks for taking the time to produce them. I bought the BW635RG this weekend and have fallen in love with the little aircraft. I'm pretty familiar with the Garmin's in MSFS but cannot get this aircraft to capture any ILS. Freq all set up in COM1, the inbound course sets itself and "LOC" comes up under heading in the PFD waiting to capture but it just flies right through it. The Approach has been activated and the AP is receiving from LOC1 but it just doesn't capture. Am I missing something?
WOW what a beautiful plane. Would that be sc licence in the U.S. or considered an ultralight. I can see the future having a plane that can make it up the east coast in minutes .
They are getting so good at modeling planes today. Impressive. The G3X is my least favorite Garmin but other than the NAV radio 2, I can totally control it using the GTN 750. You can tune in the ADF but you can't use it. Osobo needs to update this.
It would be interessant a comparison with the free mod of the JMB VL3 with also the 915 iS engine. I have flown it two times only but the first impressions were not bad at all. I have flown a lot of aircraft of this kind in RL.
@@jonbeckett I have never made and publisged a video for the dim, maybe in the future.... the biggest problem with Rotax is the overheating in sommer, radiators in this type of aircrafts are never big and efficient enough. Thanks for the video. Lovely modelling indeed. However, that prop animation is ridiculous I'm afraid! What is it with 3D modellers these days, do they only ever look at smartphone video and then do animations according to that? Not excited about the default G3X either. I thought the animation of the switch lights was a bit odd. The difference in the green led when off or on wasn't very realistic. But apart from that, this plane is going into my hangar. A very cool aircraft, but it has my pet peeve of using the VL3 sounds. I've never heard a rotax IRL that sounds like it. Maybe it's just me being an obsessive audio enthusiast. It also gets a bit boring when so many Rotax-powered planes in the sim sound identical.
I wonder how difficult sounds are in the sim though? I know Aerosoft had huge problems getting good sounds for the Twin Otter - and suffered the wrath of the community as a result.
@@jonbeckett it probably is difficult, but Blackbird/Milviz, Black Box, DC, Flying Iron and JustFlight all have amazing sounds. Not all of them are expensive either. SimAccoustics did a lot of those so maybe they're the go-to people. (The P.149, PC-21 and Taifun have really good sounds too.)
