@@jesuschristislordoflordsan427 Trash bags will are not woven like sandbags and will rip and tear that much easier. They are not structurally stable like the sandbags.
there is another version I have seen more recently called rammed earth however the problem with this is you have to create a structure if you wish to mold it in certain ways. There is another I have seen called earth ship homes that uses tires and mounds of earth almost as if you are digging into the earth or digging into the side of a giant mound. The earth ship homes I have seen are here on youtube as well.
Now that you have learned what it takes to get them here, I would start a US based business, import and then resell the bags! Like you said, no one else is doing it!
Make them yourself? Did you not see the pictures of those huge machines in that facility that makes those bags? That would cost millions to get that set up. Better off becoming an importer and selling them.

Dude you can't, you need extruders & weaving machines I've been to the factory its an expensive operation to set up, lol.
What exactly stops you from building a weaving machine? Find access to a shop, tinker around, and come up with a device that will get the job done.
"I don't have millions of dollars to build this!" is a great attitude if you don't want to create something. You don't need a massively high speed setup that can do millions of km of the stuff a month if you're making bags for yourself and to sell a handful to neighbours. Build something that can weave a few meters a minute off bulk spools, and don't bother including features like auto-spool take up or replacement.
Remember, the technology to build those bags really isn't any different from the machines used to knit early socks. Are you saying that this day and age you can't build a machine to achieve something that was done back when a steam engine was a newfangled idea?
first off I know first hand what it is like, everyone requests that, so I bring stuff in, I pay for the products, I pay the shipping by boat, I pay the shipping by land, I pay the clearances fees and duties, I pay labor to handle it into storage, I store it, and I put the word out there on my website, I call or mail everyone that wanted the stuff, 6 months later I am still sitting on my funds, a year later I sold maybe 10% sitting on the rest, I have stuff I been sitting on for 10 years, even after doing market testing, taking pre-orders, I end up keeping there deposits but they back our, and loss there small deposits, its not worth doing a lot of cald ordering as people say they want, but wants don't clear the warehousing for years
I think I am a UA-cam junket, but I have never been hooked by any shows or videos until I come across you guys. It's such great joy to see an entire family working on a project together with so much sharing and laughters. I know lots hard work goes into building an Earthbag house, but the result and the rare opportunity working together as a family is the most precious moments in life. Interesting idea would be to buy bamboo fabric. Get a company to sew the fabric into a tube. While setting your bamboo fabric earth bags use a water activated ceramic and swipe them all down. The bamboo fabric will then cure rock solid. 😊

Unless the bags are already being mass produced that is going to be prohibitively expensive.
And where do you get a water activated ceramic? And how will that keep the bamboo from rotting? Sounds like a bad idea!

I overlook that you make money off of this channel because your love outweighs any of that. Your children are so blessed, you must have the best weekends or barbecue gatherings, or if vegan the best salads, everything tastes so much better when you share with family. Buy a singer heavy duty sewing machine (approx $200) use the strongest thread you can find
Buy a roll of house wrap that repels water in but let vapor out
Cut house wrap roll to what ever size you want your final tube
then unroll house wrap place 2 pieces together and sew up the 2 sides , invert tube and your done.
Normally to protect yourself most importers operate on a letter of credit, which goes through the banks. However, if the final cost was $4400, that would be too small of an order-the bank fees could easily add another 30-40% on top of that. I am just glad it all worked out for you.

You were lucky this time, but things could have gone very, very wrong for you. If ever you do put another order in, may I make a suggestion? I know you trust this company you have imported from in the past, but I have seen many situations where companies first start with letters of credit, then telegraphic transfer, like you did. Things are going just peachy until bam! They get ripped off on a big order. It happens every day of the week. I'm glad you weren't. But safest bet is an irrevocable, confirmed letter of credit.

I like the whole bag idea. Contained, keeps things together. But did you ever consideration the old traditional adobe brick idea? As it's been done in the Southwest for a millennia. I had a neighbor build a extra room onto his house, by making his own red bricks. This was in the 70's. He build his own little box frames, mixed concrete and something else that gave it a three color effect, and set them to dry in his driveway. Had the neighborhood kids fascinated.

concrete cannot breathe and will become damp, thats why basements are damp, earthen homes will never do that because they breathe
And if you all find a new supplier of this wonderful stuff please let us know. I'm researching geodesic domes, chicken wire and cement impregnated burlap. Then spraying foam bb softcrete on in a three to four inch layer for my of grid home. And then, of course, covering it all up with three to six feet of earth. Stay tuned. Love your videos and ideas. Even more so that the kids are involved just as much too.
If you want to build like that just pour cement base set a metal geodesic frame on it and wrap with land carpet you put around flowers then spray on the inside with shot creet like you want after inside hardens then spray outside heavy then build like you want but still i would make sure about permits and laws to make sure they dont make you take down.

+Danny Fletcher there is a company in Italy Texas, monolithic domes that has been around for a couple decades. problem with the dome is that you get no cell or Wi-Fi signals inside. friends lived in one and hated it. plus cement isn't healthy for you and is a big eco load.

We've been learning with CalEarth in Hesperia CA. Perhaps you can peep their format and make it yours in your area. This is where we buy bags too. They offer on site classes but due to covid they moved online, reserved and limited tours... etc. Ya'll are awesome!
I too have struggled finding the continuous bags sold anywhere in the U.S. I opted for the as you put it, "labor intensive" 18x30 bags. 3000 total needed for our build, my shoulders and arms are still sore! Love your page and love your informative videos, I'll keep checking back to see if you have found anything for when I start my workshop. Keep up the amazing work you're doing!

I love your episodes. I purchased my Raschel tubing from a place in south Texas. 32k linear feet for about $700. 30% clay to 70% sand, straw, grass, reed or other seedless fibre and water. no barbed wire. same basic principles.

I have also seen the hyperadobe videos on UA-cam. I think they are the way to go. Cutting out the awkward handling of the barbed wire definitely seems worth it.
Also, "stucco-ing" will get easier because it will adhere a lot easier on the Adobe than on the poly bags.
You will need to cover your work during the build though, I don't think a fresh hyperadobe wall will take kindly to a proper rain shower...

Yup. One unprotected rain storm and the building becomes very organic looking.
IDK if I would trust even hyper-adobe to glue rows together....Shake-table tests of various adobe wall systems [back in the early 1990's, in Berkeley, CA...I think was when], proved that reinforcing adobe walls as simply as wrapping the basic earthen wall structure with chicken wire before plastering, held walls together even in severe earthquakes.
That extrapolates to using barbed wire between rows of earthbags...which is why to keep using barb wire, not trusting a mortar to do it
Same reason all those who get old brick bldgs to remodel, then remove the old cracked facing stucco or coatings, risk losing that building in an earthquake..the old bricks are already aging and have crumble-tendency...with no covering to protect them and hold them more stable, those walls are compromised..especially in freeze-thaw climates that cause spalling in all brick or concrete structures.

what are your thoughts using adobe compressed earth blocks CEB ?
with you family techno sevey homebuilding it sound like you can easily make your own hand CEB press, it sounds like you get higher compression, less labor intensive built, more thermal mass, and also cheaper cause you dont need the earth bags,you have the option of the nice traditional block look, and with your family's artistic talents you can make multiple forms for the press with designs and stuff and make walkways add new structures, build walls pens,all with homemade blocks!!

Getting close to my completion of a 21' 10' deep round hole, yet no bags in sight.
Any company that makes the bags ought to be able to accept a special order. Perhaps coaxed by pleading to purchased local at a comparable price. It's frustrating. The ENTIRE point of these buildings is that anyone can afford a home. But now that it's trendy, nobody can afford them anymore.
My husband and I just went though a mess trying to buy burlap sandbags. These used to be the cheapest things in the world. Heck, people couldn't give them away. Now everyone is advertising them "For weddings!" "For home decor!" "For country or farmhouse decorating!!"

The Chinese company could use Alie-express, Alie Baba, or Wish to sell the bags. Would be much simpler, with payment but also with the customs.
you could try compressed earth blocks the machines are not that expensive to buy around $4000 for an a powered one or much less for a hand operated one. I am lazy so I would buy the automatic one myself mainly because I can hardly walk any more.
The formula for impressed earth blocks is very similar to what you mix for your earth bag instruction. As suggested that you get a cement mixer and the sand, clay, cement, and 8 to 10% water. Just enough water so that when you squeeze the mixture stays together but is still a dirt consistency. Not a mud shovel that into a hopper, hopper fills the die and then pneumatically presses out a couple of bricks i.e. blocks whatever size and shape that you determined you want for your home. Another way of constructing with earth is to build a frame in whatever shape watcher wall. Actually you need to frames and inside one and an outside approximately 2 feet across and then using that temper either the hand one or a pneumatic one or 10 (use as many tempers as you feel necessary usually about two or three. Any more than that people will get in each other’s way. This technique changes the sand, clay, cement mixture into sandstone and you have to make sure the roof overhangs walls to protect them from rain. This construction method is been known throughout the world for thousands of years in houses built this way have lasted at least a thousand years provided the roof is kept up to keep the rain off the walls.
to fill those bags, I'd try to construct some sort of machine that uses an auger in a pipe that fills from above with earth/dirt to fill them. you would slide a section of earth-bag over it, close the end and just have the auger contraption fill it and when it's all full, you'd just tie off the other end... does that make any sense to you? (something like at progressiveinnovations-dot-com/earth-home-builder/ ..but without the bobcat)
Hi! I live in rural Indiana. We have a grain elevator in our tiny town and nothing else. They get continuous bags. I spoke with them and they just let me add what I needed to their order. I just paid for my part. Plus they buy in super bulk and in turn I got a awesome deal.
We have a ton of clay here so I am not to worried about cob. But what on earth should I use on the outside? It gets 20 below here. Anyway you can help a comic-con mom of three girls? Our oldest doesn't want to move out but does want her own place.

alibaba.com might be a good place to check for either the poly woven bag rolls or the raschel for the hyperadobe. I was looking at basic prices and it looks like you could cut your building costs pretty dramatically by going with the hyper adobe, but I'm sure you already know that

We are working on plans to build a small village in southern Mexico for 15 to 20 families.
Not sure about seismic specs. I well imagine it would hold up better than a stick built home.

They are woven polypropylene. Often feed for animals come in those type of bags.
typically UV up to 2000 hours. this isn't a problem as you cover it in plaster.

The strands of poly weave are about 3/16 the of an inch and are tightly woven together. I not sure about the strand thickness. They must not spend too much time in the sun or they fall apart. They are fine in the shade under cover. We use the 14 inch wide that when filled become about 12 inches by 4 inches high. Thanks for sharing.

China-Mart came to the rescue. Its really sad that we have no one here in the U.S. producing these bags at a reasonable price. I guess its pretty much par for the course, along with the tons of other quality goods we no longer produce.

It's available, but it's a very specialized product that's only available from a few specific retailers that are not ideal to buy from for one reason or another. It makes sense though. Like you can't just buy a roll of these for $5 from Home Depot, lol.

The bags are made from plastic? So when your house is at the end of its life you have a pile of plastic contaminated soil?
I have seen ones made of burlap that is used to line road ways prior to construction, I wonder how they would work.

they use the burlap because it breaks down over time and they don't have to remove it.

Hi this is somendra and I am from India I want to know how sustainable these Adobe house is,How long is the life of this house, how long it lasts
Does moisture come to the walls in these homes during the rainy season?
One last question when we apply a cement layer. over the earthbag it does not fall after drying
What I mean to say is that when we plaster indoors and out, that plaster is uprooted or not after drying.
consider building a rock or concrete footing.
@@mylittlehomestead ..and use a plastic membrane (dampcourse) between 2 layers when you reach just below your intended floor level, make sure that level is higher than under 'runoff flooding' that your site might ever be subject to (ask the old timers!).For weatherproof plastering... Put pieces of wire inbetween every second(?) layer and about 18" apart and bend them up as a hook so they stick out less then the intended 'plaster' layer (this gives a decent hook with the depression between layers caused by the rounded edge of each bag). Use cement in the mud plaster, and if you can put fibres (grass?) into the mud to make an adobe then they will work even better with the hooks to ensure secure adhesion of the plaster. If you use cement in the mix be sure that the surface is a little damp to prevent the wall sucking out too much moisture from the mix and interfering with the cement 'chemistry' at the interface between plaster and wall making it fall.
