It does not make any sense to me why anyone would leave a negative comment. This information and tour is absolutly wonderful. Congratulations on this achievement.
The only somewhat negative comment I have is that the tour guide seemed in a hurry to get the heck out of there!. Otherwise she was very knowledgeable.
You could post a video on how to easily prevent aging, achieve world peace, make everyone wealthy and reverse global climate change, and someone would comment “Ugh..get a microphone screen. I can’t take all the p popping sounds.” I don’t get it, but it is pretty much inevitable and just ignore.
Not trying to leave a negative comment but the garage beams, for their mass are too closely spaced together which = more trees cut down unnecessarily and also imported because New Mexico doesn’t have lumber that size native. Y’all are adorable, but you are only face value hippies
I would employ this woman in an absolute second. She delivers a fantastic, informative, coherent pitch for this build... and does it in a really pleasant way.
Why are the comments flooded with people calling her a hippy and insulting her? She's just doing her job and doing it well besides. These houses are probably one of the better places to live in all honesty.
As a salesmen she was my so great the dude had to pull I do from her she was nervous. I had to stop 6:38 into cause I couldn’t deal with her. Looks great, they need a stronger speaker.
My wife and I rented a b&b one of these in Taos for a couple days vacation in the summer, have to say it was wonderful. One thing that I was not expecting was the absolute silence. No AC or fans constantly running, no road noise whatsoever. Fell asleep to the sound of the wood stove crackling all cozy. The smell of it was a bit like a cave because of the water system but honestly it didn’t bother me. I can’t speak for the durability or longevity of the construction but the dwelling felt incomparably more eco friendly than anywhere else I’ve been.
Wow! I'm so grateful for people like you all! We have every answer to our "problems" - global warming ; energy; rising waters; no more oil. Every Answer has been provided. Our Blindness is continually self re-inflicted by our own hands. Thanks again
People commenting/complaining this doesn't work everywhere on Earth or you don't like 1 aspect. OK. Change it. Hell this company has a school to teach you how to come up with your own design. The "one house fits all" design we have in America is exactly where all our ecological and waste problems come from. No ONE design is going to fit all. Some places won't get the rainfall, have to come up with a different water source. Some places you can't go underground, have to go up. Some places are far too hot or cold to have one wall and a greenhouse, OK, CHANGE IT. BE INSPIRED, NOT CYNICAL. Custom works for who it's designed for. Find what works.
I totally Agee with what you said, and to add to it. I feel like not all places on earth need to be inhabited like we think, so people could leave and go somewhere else.
No, there are green models that work in any climate. The Earthship itself isn't that effective outside the desert because it is an optimised design for a dry arid environment. Evap cooling doesn't work well in a humid environment. That is why green eco-homes built outside the earthship model tend to be much smaller. One reason the ES is so large is that it uses that roof coverage to collect water which is the limiting factor in that climate. Not heating or cooling - which scale pretty well. In environments with much more water you can't cool nearly so well. So interior volume to heatsink ratio changes to smaller more concentrated spaces. (most "tiny" homes ignore the concept entirely and just add more solar panels for mini-splits) That massive greenhouse on the front only works due to that same overcooling -- in other climates the "sun features" are significantly reduced.
nailed it dino man. different people have different housing needs. And if anyone THINKS they can find a better solution than this in terms of waste management, energy conservation, comfortability and AWESOMENESS, keep dreaming
Daniel Sifrit I am moving from southern AZ near the Mexico border to the coast of Maine next summer. Your comment reflected how I was thinking the needs would change from this arid desert area to the humid frozen coastal region. I apologize for my ignorance, what do you mean by the green eco housing you referred to (not a direct quote, my friend.)? I appreciate any opinion and replies...
Nice to see it finished. I helped on their plumbing many many yrs ago. My ranch was about 7 miles from theirs and the last time I seen it it was mainly a frame, tires, glass.
That's very very cool Todd Corey. Nice to talk to someone who worked on it. rare occasion: I think I'm going to do this. I don't want a typical American home on grid. I want to enjoy my retirement. lol. But I'd add something to this house if it was mine, I'd add a passive roof harvesting water collection System IF they don't already have it AND I'd add a solar panel roof out there ontop of the roof water harvesting system so the roof collects water that falls on the solar panels and the panels create electricity while a Freight Shipping Container is posted somewhere out back and under ground to be the power room where the racks of batteries are kept and the charge controller and transformer are kept. I'd also add a Rain water harvesting chicken coop outside with electrical fence around chicken area to protect against invaders and a electrical fence around the whole property so the chicken's can free range but are not allowed near the drive way only the grassy areas and dirt areas. I'd add a optional Solar Chimney for if people want it built in colder climates so the house is more versatile AND Lastly I'd add a Solar Water Heater too and a Solar powered Shed out back to work on my car lol. All electrical components are connected underground to Freight shipping container power room which recieves it's electricity from the roofs of the home and shed's solar panels. Small wind mill electrical generators connected to chimney and hoisted on tallest part outside of chimeny and free moving so sky wind moving in any direction can have strongest effect in generating more electricity to contribute to power room in the shipping container that has all those batteries on racks.

Kudos to Ashley Turin who is hosting the tour. She does an amazing job at dispersing information and keeping it relate able and interesting. I am really impressed with her delivery.
This is my favorite style of earthship home. If I ever get financially set where I can get the land for an earthship home I'd want this style. But right now I'm lucky to have 2 quarters to rub together after I pay bills.
I love the house. Thank you for showing us the inside of the house. I love it. It’s very beautiful. I love the going green idea, using less energy, using as much as possible, of the natural process that is available to us by nature. I like the recycled water idea, save water, use less energy, & more of nature’s natural energy.
Thank you Ashley! This was quite informative and easy to understand and follow. It is always nice to see how earthship technology has evolved! This home looks cozy.
And you too Pamela can have one for a $ 1 million dollar deposit after you buy the land, get a building permit, pay property tax and buy a really good 3/4 ton truck so you can drive 50 miles one way to get your food and water and propane and beer and building materials . Think that would work for you? And, have no friends for 40 miles. A woman would go insane.

What an absolutely gorgeous home! Thanks for another informative video, Deek. The Earthship has wiggled it's way into my top 3 alternative living options. That stained glass placement is brilliant. ♡
Coming out to one of the communities next month. Staying in one of the earthships for 3 nights. As a general contractor Im really excited to some of the construction.
America has been getting ribbed off by the corrupt bs building corporations, and really all corporation's for decade's. this is such a better, cleaner, more pleasant way of life. Hats of to the both of you, And she is an amazing tour guide .wow how informative. Thank you ,and peace, love, and prosperity to all.💘 i would love to have that company build me one of these amazing home's.
Beautful house. We are moving deeper into the desert and have been looking for great ideas to modify an existing desert home. Thank you for the ideas. And to those complaining about the price of this home " Do it yourself "
The natural cooling effect of the walls sold me. That's the whole deal as far as I'm concerned. Every house I have ever live in did not have adequate cooling.
Stunning, a piece of art. I snorted when she said that the average person could look at this and see they could live off grid. You can make one for less but I'd wager this one cost a million.
They save a lot on labor because generally, volunteers from around the world help to build. Also, a portion of the home is made of recycled, free, reclaimed material. With all of that taken into consideration, it's much less than a million.
OMG Absolutely bloody stunning!!!! Ashleigh blew me away with her knowledge and her articulation, huge kudos to her. I would love to be able to afford an earthship for a home here in Australia. Michelle
+Jessica Mullens Hey Jess are they in Australia? If so are they doing YT videos for the build? I would love to see it being done. Hubby and I are in our 60's well hang on I'm 60 lol and hubby is 65, so I don't think we could do it on our own. Recently my Dad passed and left us three kids his estate so we have money coming and if the price is right I would love to build one if possible. Please let me know and thanks Jess. Michelle
Jerry C not according to their website. $225/sf - $250/sf puts a 2,000 sf house at over half a million dollars just on construction and plans. Not sure where you're from, but that is definitely not cheaper than standard construction in most parts of the U.S.
Well Tim I'm from NSW Australia and that sort of money won't even get you a house in the city of Sydney. In country areas for a nice home you are looking at over 1/4 million dollars now. Prices are astronomical on the east coast of Australia. Michelle
This earthship was awesome, but honestly the guide did an amazing job! The way she explained everything you can tell she's super passionate about conversation. It's super attractive when you find a girl that can articulate herself so well!
Read an article years ago, mid 60's, about an engineer living in Colorado. His house in October had 63 temp, with no heaters. His walls were rammed earth, must have a percentage of clay. North side windows were one foot tall, south side full length. South side had extended eves to keep sun out in the summer. But in the winter when the sun went south, he had convection heating. The house was built in 1947!!! Yep! we've had this type technology for years, just wasn't promoted. Actually the technology goes back centuries.....The tube for cooling can be done with a backhoe and one foot plastic pipe!!!
you should check out a guy from north dakota on this ladies Kristen's channel, he built his house 40 years ago and its geo thermal, thats even better, he build a greenhouse to grow tropical fruits inside, and built it so it slopped down to the earth on one side. He used the same plan for his house so he wouldnt have to pay for heat.
I must learn how to do this! I am sure it wasn't prompted because the energy companies would much rather line their pockets than to have people heating and cooling their homes for free without pollution. What a sad thing
Tiny Houses, Earthships, it's all about economy and green living! I LOVE these buildings but I hear the cooling features don't work so well in areas with high humidity. Thanks Deek!
cob houses are great in humid areas and are somewhat similar to earthships in materials but with different design mechanics behind them. so you can look into those for an adaptation of an earthship in a humid area. they are also more of an ancient form of architecture dating back thousands of years.
Mordant Vistas I think what Eric was getting at is it's extremely labor intensive. I'm fairly sure if you didn't/couldn't do a large part of it yourself it might be expensive. As far as this construction goes there's a good reason it's primarily in the southwest. Adobe doesn't work for Miami. We have high humidity and a lot of rain.
Manhattan isn't sustainable and the cost of living is astronomical. REAL PEOPLE can't live in NYC/LA/etc. but they CAN live like this, and live well at that
I think I'm going to do this. I don't want a typical American home on grid. I want to enjoy my retirement. lol. But I'd add something to this house if it was mine, I'd add a roof harvesting System IF they don't already have it AND I'd add a solar panel roof out there ontop of the roof water harvesting system so the roof collects water that falls on the solar panels and the panels create electricity while a Freight Shipping Container is posted somewhere out back and under ground to be the power room where the racks of batteries are kept and the charge controller. Mike's a talented guy, everything is done to an extremely high standard. However, I bet the average Joe couldn't afford such a home. Which is not only a great shame but dare I say defeating the object.
Tire bails are a great alternative to pounding dirt into tires for the back walls. They can be stacked in a day and they're just as good as packed tires. Plus they use more tires so they clean up more mess.
Nice tour, Deek. Michael Reynolds has long been one of my heroes. His work informs my understanding of passive environmental systems. Reynolds, with formal architectural training, early on said 'F- the corporate world, I'm doing something real and meaningful' and quit his job and moved to Taos. He embodies Robert Frost's poem --- The Road Not Taken. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. The Man rocks!
The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference
This is how my grandparents build their homes in the county. Not as nice as this home. They made a little creek for all the, what they call now grey water, with fruit trees on both sides. A well in the back, they had a filtration system for drinking water.Which was a big barro pot with sand, rocks or charcoal, to remove the minerals from the water. Which will drip all the time into a cantaro for drinking and cooking water. I'm saying all this,to say this. This is nothing new, people have being doing this for centuries
Yea ... not a fan of the architecture. BUT .... the housing science and its applications you have integrated into daily living practices is applaudable! Too bad your heating/water premises aren't more widely applied. Very impressive and admirable. Kudos!
I've been researching and learning about earthships for a few years now, and still get evicted and love to see each one upon completion, hopefully I'll be able to do an internship or at least attend the hands on building experience, and one day build my very own earthship!
Wow so so beautiful house! My dream home has always been a underground house! for the reason you explain in this video, They stay very cool in the summertime and in the winter so easy to heat! So that didn't happen i moved from Indiana to Manila Philippines lol lol great video!! P.S. Tell the person the picture right behind the kitchen table, its crocked lol lol
Great philosophy. Off-grid is the way of the future. Design of the house is nice -especially the clear bottles. Not sure about the busy decor. I’d like to see something more minimalist, but great ideas.
There's nothing wrong with the grid, except that the grid is owned and ran by corrupt people. The grid, a mass energy producing plan isn't a bad thing, it can be quite efficient. The important thing is that it's run correctly with accountability, and forward thinking folks that do it for the greater good than just their own self interest. Most humans aren't mature enough to handle the power that comes with being in charge of the masses. It takes a person who's over come their own ego and material addictions.
Shu Meister most people want to earn as much money as they can from their investments. But the problem is that so many people can’t think ahead. After they are dead and buried what kind of world do we leave for our descendants? This is the big question. Most grids around the world are fossil powered. We need to think long and hard about this, and take action. The machinations of on-grid charges currently make it very attractive to go off grid and go green. The grids will follow suit. But people have to take the lead en masse.
Shu Meister that’s just the problem. People seem to be brainwashed by the big companies who gain so much revenue from maintaining the status quo. If people weren’t connecting to the grid they’d save twenty thousand dollars for each house just in infrastructure cost. That money could go into solar, wind and batteries.
It does not make any sense to me why anyone would leave a negative comment. This information and tour is absolutly wonderful. Congratulations on this achievement.

She is great! These houses are super cool, and intelligent!!!
Lovely,so many of these types of houses look like hovels. This one is truly a family home.Congrats.
I would love to live in one of these but with a much larger greenhouse area because I love to grow plants.
Can you afford 500,000... I can't?
I think it tis' so sweet that they re-inspire and make people Dream again after soon much loss. And sweetened their hopes again.🐣
Abssolutteely stunning!
Yes she is. The house too😊
Why would u not luv this house? I think it was beautifully done. I wouldn't live under ground, but I do think the house is gorgeous.
MICHAEL IS FAR AHEAD OF HIS TIME! A GENIUS WITH A VISION!
Vigas is Spanish for beams. Greetings from Costa Rica.
i have already seen some of these houses and find them really good, provided you know what you are doing, otherwise it will be difficult
Great home . Ashley is very lovely
OMG Absolutely bloody stunning!!!! Ashleigh blew me away with her knowledge and her articulation, huge kudos to her. I would love to be able to afford an earthship for a home here in Australia. Michelle
bohemiangypsy99 My friend is building one in her backyard, just her and her husband!

Michelle
Totally great people I love individuals who think outside of the box
This earthship was awesome, but honestly the guide did an amazing job! The way she explained everything you can tell she's super passionate about conversation. It's super attractive when you find a girl that can articulate herself so well!
Iron Mountain it's also nice she spent most of the time in the kitchen area very rare these days.
Really pretty, neat an very unique home.I love using the earth to cool the house naturally=awesome.
Any names, possibly Web Links, UA-cam videos, Etc. About the 1947 House?
you should check out a guy from north dakota on this ladies Kristen's channel, he built his house 40 years ago and its geo thermal, thats even better, he build a greenhouse to grow tropical fruits inside, and built it so it slopped down to the earth on one side. He used the same plan for his house so he wouldnt have to pay for heat.
I must learn how to do this! I am sure it wasn't prompted because the energy companies would much rather line their pockets than to have people heating and cooling their homes for free without pollution. What a sad thing
Excellent ideas....love the home
Tiny Houses, Earthships, it's all about economy and green living! I LOVE these buildings but I hear the cooling features don't work so well in areas with high humidity. Thanks Deek!
cob houses are great in humid areas and are somewhat similar to earthships in materials but with different design mechanics behind them. so you can look into those for an adaptation of an earthship in a humid area. they are also more of an ancient form of architecture dating back thousands of years.
I really love the way it was built. I'm looking at the process for building like this great job thanks again
Crazy as its sounds, but this is the future, as is now compared to traditional housing
How? This can't be done in Manhattan. The U.S is geographically enormous. Taos and Miami might as well be on different planets.
Mordant Vistas
I think what Eric was getting at is it's extremely labor intensive.
I'd also add a Rain water harvesting chicken coop outside with electrical fence around chicken area to protect against invaders and a electrical fence around the whole property so the chicken's can free range but are not allowed near the drive way only the grassy areas and dirt areas. I'd add a optional Solar Chimney for if people want it built in colder climates so the house is more versatile AND Lastly I'd add a Solar Water Heater too and a Solar powered Shed out back. All electrical components are connected underground to Freight shipping container power room which recieves it's electricity from the roofs of the home and shed's solar panels.
Very good presentation of the house and incorporated concepts enjoyed watching and learning.
Great video and the nicest Earthship house I have seen!
Awesome my favorite thing in the US never get tired of seeing these posts..
Outstanding home....not having to rely on cities!! Well built !! Great job on your tour Ashley. You're beautiful as well !!
Fascinating & beautiful. I always thought this type of house made the most sense. So glad to see it.
Mike's a talented guy, everything is done to an extremely high standard. However, I bet the average Joe couldn't afford such a home. Which is not only a great shame but dare I say defeating the object.
I like the use of the greenhouse as a hallway to connect different areas!
Tire bails are a great alternative to pounding dirt into tires for the back walls. They can be stacked in a day and they're just as good as packed tires. Plus they use more tires so they clean up more mess.
She is so informative, I am sp greatful to see this before purchasing some land to build a home on.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
The Man rocks!
James Polk The Road Less Traveled but yea... I stand corrected! 👍 must be thinking of something else. 🤔
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference
very exciting stuff! May it spread and become much more common!
OMG!!! THAT HOBBIT TREEHOUSE IN VERMONT IS MY DREAM HOUSE/ CASTLE IN THE SKY.... LOVE TO WAKE~&~ BAKE THERE EVERY MORN 👌👍 🌲🌲🌲🌄🌅🌞🌞
Earth ship houses are amazing. So logical and functional and well thought out.
i wish i would have known you were nearby... i'm in albuquerque... it would have been amazing to have met you....
CuteSeamus roswell here haha
Very well planned out, it is so nice to see these projects.
Beautiful! Never seen 2 bathrooms in a tiny home EVER
What a bright woman! Thank you Deek!
Great video and my dream home is an Earthship!
Fantastic explanation. Very knowledgeable young lady--thanks!
Stayed in one of the Taos earthships, last year. Such a great experience.
This is my home design of choice.
Hope they share this with their children and grandchildren.
Yea ... not a fan of the architecture. BUT .... the housing science and its applications you have integrated into daily living practices is applaudable! Too bad your heating/water premises aren't more widely applied. Very impressive and admirable. Kudos!
M. S. The word is YEAH... and I’m not a fan of it either.
That home is absolutely beautiful, i love it.❤
That's fascinating, the tour guide is awesome, I just wish the guy filming would actually look at what she's talking about.
Amazing concept, well thought out, love alternative living ideas. The wave of the future.
Love that fridge! I want one!
That's bloody gorgeous, so much thought and a lovely flow to it all, bonkers, fair play.
I wouldn't mind living in one of these.
Love this video. This house is SO impressive. I want one!
I want a house like this :)
I really like the swimming pool and the nice lawn.
@@Alrukitaf A cohesive community can probably make big purchase together, once they all come to an agreement that works for all involved.
Just get a piece of land in an unincorporated place some where a put a small trailer on it done.
Wow!! Great to know this kind of house. I'm an architect students and this video teach me a lot of passive cooling for thermal problems :))
