Nice. I've got the same reel. Off eBay a few years back. For 20 bucks. It was new old stock. Box, paperwork, everything. I should have bought more. I've cleaned it a few times. It's got the Penn Blue in it now. I've caught some decent size catfish, to pan fish, and bass. Small shark , stingrays, Blue fish. It's a fun reel. It goes with me on every trip. I learned about this reel from a UA-cam channel, fish your way. Thanks for the vid! I just got a dam 550 and will be watching your video on the 550. Thanks!!!
Dennis, at 9:09 on your video you greased the cavity on the handle side plate. Is there supposed to be a rubber plug inside that cavity or is that supposed to be open for oiling the reel through the hole on the other side?
It is an open cavity. I had the reel fully apart, so I used grease. You can use oil for interim maintenance. There in no rubber plug - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Many of the reels at the time did not have the A/R. It is more than just adding a dog. You also need to add a free spool mechanism to make a direct drive reel with an A/R. They kept it simple. Other Penn reels of the time had the A/R return, but not this one
That looked like a easy way to fix old reel now it can used to fish again thanks for the video Dennis 👍🏿👍👍
You bet. Fun and easy too!
Great job Dennis
Thank you
@@2ndChanceTackle can you send me a photo of the oil and grease that you use to penetrate the grease
I have one of these old reels in my collection, a very simple reel but one of my Penn favourites. Thanks Dennis, stay safe.. Paul Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks, you too! This reel will last forever, unless dropped or otherwise damaged with broken or cracked side plates. Best wishes Paul - Dennis

You are welcome - Thanks for the note - Dennis
I have a seahawk in great condition
They are survivors. The only thing that breaks is the side plates when dropped or mis-handled! Thanks - Dennis
