For years I have had my closet divided by type of clothing, the purpose of clothing, then by color. Tops, slacks, dresses etc., then within tops for example, casual or work or special occasion, then by color. However my tops don’t include sweaters or tanks, those are folded since I always wear tanks under other tops and I don’t want my sweaters on hangers. I actually put pinks in front of red since pink is white plus red. My closet is black, gray, white, pink then ROYGBIV, then Maroon and Brown. I know a lot of people put brown in with the other neutrals but I have always felt that it belongs in its own space. And Maroon is red, brown, and purple. It makes sense to me to put it with brown and purple.
Your color coding is so interesting, and sounds equally as beautiful! We LOVE when people create a system that works uniquely to them -- you're so much more likely to keep up with it.
This is exactly how I do it too!!
For years I had never used my closet and only used my drawers. When I finally decided to use my closet it had become an unorganized mess. Early in quarantine, I decided to organize and purge my closet and organize my house. I used your videos to aid me in this process. You guys changed my life forever and I will forever owe you for that. You have alleviated so much tension and stress from my life. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Grace, this is the most lovely comment, and it makes us feel so lucky to do what we do. We're thrilled that you dove into organizing during quarantine -- keep us posted!
I organize each category by color, dark to light within each color starting with black (neutrals). So tanks by color, short-sleeve shirts by color, etc. So I have multiple rainbows! I need to go right to the type of top before looking for the color, so it works for me. I like pinks and maroons with the reds and neutrals at the front! Thanks ladies!
First saw you in Safiya’s video. Loved watching you organise Safiya & Tyler’s stuff. Would love to see more home organising videos.
We're so glad you found us -- and we are definitely hoping to do some more in-home organizing videos!
I also heard about them through the video and after watching the video it gave me a sudden urge to organize my bathroom and went after I did I felt so accomplished and happy so then I decided to clean up my closet was again accomplished and happy so yeah I definitely work man cleaning up something and like organizing it
What about dresses/skirts/pants? Are those a whole separate thing or mixed in with the tips?
I like Maroon w/ reds. Neutrals at front because I have more. I prefer pinks w/ reds.
okay hear me out, this is how I do the colors: white, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, grey, black
Love that
Love splitting the neutrals!
I do them white pink red purple navy blue dark blue light blue light green green dark green black grey yellow orange
@@Hunter-on2qe ummmmm why?
Me: *watches this video*
Also Me: *only owns black clothing*
Still loved the video though! 🖤
YES! This tickled us... :)
Pinks and maroons go with purples. Neutrals go at the end on the right. This was fun to watch. Great video!
I categorize by color and have for years! I also categorize by sleeve length within the color system.
Color scheme: white/cream/tan, black, grey, brown, red, orange, yellow/gold, green, blue, purple/burgundy, mauve, pink.
Sleeve length system (within their respective color group): camis/tank tops in the front, short/cap sleeve in the middle, and long sleeve in the back.
However, I’m not extra like Joni by doing thinner to thicker tanks. I just put them in their general area!
What a great color scheme you have going on in your closet!
And the "extra" comment definitely tickled us :)
A friend "turned me on" to y'all and now I see why. You're great!
I love this video so much! In the case of organizing this rack of clothes I would say "maroon" falls more in the red category. I would basically put the "maroons" and pinks upfront with the reds and keep the neutrals in back to not "mute the rainbow". However, realistically I would move the the maroons and pinks to the front with the reds + move the neutrals to the front of the clothes rack simply because I know I wear blacks/whites/neutrals most often. Therefore, they are easily accessible. Time is key in that case. With all that being said, my personal closet is a HOT MESS right now and I'm watching this video to get expert tips and you ladies did just that. Can't wait to play around with my closet now that I have a helpful guide. :)
Hey aunt Joni and aunt kitt!💕💖
Hi Rina love!
@@PracticallyPerfect Miss you guys
I like the red in the beginning better!!! Thanks for the help. It’s my first time color coding my closet!
I’m watching this while organizing out mine ❤️
Yay, we hope it went wonderfully! Closet organization can be so soothing.
Pinks go with the reds!
I feel like maroon is purple!
You're a little bit Joni AND a little bit Kitt!
My closet is color coded each within by tank tops, then short sleeves, snd then long sleeves
The Joni method, we love it!
what if there is no hanging space and need to fold and keep in cupboards?
🤍💗❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤 Oh and light grey can go after white and dark grey before black. Maroon with reds and split the neutrals...I’m sorry y’all!!! XOXO 💫💫🥰
Tani, you're the first to say split the neutrals -- this is why we love you!
Loving all the responses! Xo
Good info. Hadn’t thought of grays splitting and whites in front. Thx so much for sharing.
I would put both the pinks and maroons with the reds. I would also put the white neutrals before the pinks, and the black/dark neutrals after the dark blues/violets (last).
I like red at the beginning and I also would put pink and maroon with red but I put the maroon before I put the pink
To answer your questions:
1. Maroons go after purples for me! It’s bc I find purples, maroons, burgundies more flattering with my skin tone and i like to keep them away from red (since red isn’t as flattering on me).
2. I put my neutrals in the front since those make up majority of my wardrobe and my brain works by thinking left to right (as in neutrals worn more often = left)
Ooh, what a great answer to the maroons... highlighting the colors that flatter you!
Hi , i think that the green pink violet are corail deep sea colors, they must be together
the white is the 1st color b4 the red, also the last color after indigo is brown then black
I do patterns at the end each of soild groups because the colors flow better
That's a great place to put patterns -- anything that makes it feel more visually appealing to your eye is a win to us!

@@khushidevda3550 lmao I typed this from memory too
I also have a lot of clothing, including different colors of jean jackets..a very big, closet.. thanks for the idea 😊
Love this video, I'm excited! Going to tweak my rails. I will be doing.. Rainbow first then neutrals. Go with joni's sleeve and style order. Maroon with red. Pink, mauve then purple. Thank you Practically Perfect.
So excited for you! Let us know how it goes!
I put the maroons after the reds & split the neutrals (white at the beginning & blacks at the end.
A few people have noted splitting neutrals -- which we love!
Me too!
I also start with white first and end with black. Lightest to darkest makes the most sense in my mind.
Worked in retail for 3 years soo sleeve size matters to me 😭
Absolutely! Love that you get this :)
I don’t do it this way. To me, the ROYGBIV looks messy. I go simlly from white to black and it makes it a little challenging in the middle but not
awkward enough for me to change it. Thanks for sharing
I agree, the neutrals in the front mute the rainbow for me. I put those at the end! Also, I put my burgundy's, maroons and those with the purples, BUT the bright pinks with my reds.
Pink is just red mixed with white, so it's technically just "light red." Just as red can have a warm/yellow undertone, or a cool/blue undertone, so can pink, and really, any other color can, too! I personally love pink in front of red. Brown is just dark orange, but I tend to group my dark browns next to purple, or red. You can absolutely think of separating into warm and cool undertones if you tend to dress to accentuate the natural tones of your skin, hair, eyes, etc. I recommend using the color wheel to coordinate if you're feeling lost!
Absolutely, we love that you brought up the color wheel! Such a good thing to reference when you're getting started.
I love your video, you always help me get organized
Thank you, we love that!
@@PracticallyPerfect your welcome😁
Neutrals at the end, pinks and maroons with the reds
Thank you 😊
A few years ago I made up a song for the rainbow
“Red orange yellow green blue, don’t forget there’s pink and purple too, next comes brown black and gray, those are the colors I have for today, HEY!” 😂 it’s cheesy but I do put my pinks by my purpled but afterwards that way if you look at the colors like a circle it can fade from purple to red using the pinks
And here i am being a shopping addict and having 7 different hues of brown... ( like where do i put my multicolored embroidered jean jacket 💀 ) Im having a crisis ROYGBIV!
Ooh, multi-colored items are extra fun! We suggest either picking the most dominant color in that jacket, or creating a whole "multi-colored/patterned" section if you have a lot of them.
So where do you out multicolored clothing on the rack?
I don't know if you guys still read these, but there's no harm in commenting. Firstly, my short sleeves and long sleeves are separated completely; if there is like a 3/4 sleeve top, then it depends on the fabric and thereby WHEN I am more likely to wear it (thin material = spring/summer = with short sleeve tops..... thick material = fall/winter = with long sleeve tops). Then, within each section of sleeve length, I organize it like Joni, by sleeve length and casual to fancy. and FINALLY ROYGBIV and within each color, from lightest to darkest. Specifically, white, pink (i.e. lighter shades of red), red, maroon (i.e. darker shades of red), orange, yellow, green, aqua/turquoises, blues, indigos, purples, browns (which are non-existent in my closet), grays, then finally blacks (so WPRMOYGreABluIVBrGraBl, yeah no one will remember that, lol). For controversial colors (like fuchsia, burgundy, some maroons...), I go by what feels right. If a mauve looks more pink, pink it is, more purple, then purple, gray, then gray, etc... I even ROYGBIV my whites because I include off-whites in my whites if they are light enough. For example, that light orange top in your video would be "white" for me, but not the light yellow. Hope this brings some insight! :)
Oh, and yes...I totally go Roy G Biv, then I did neutrals: white, cream, tan, brown, grey, black.
The colour system I use is yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green, brown, black, grey, white :D I have no idea where to put skin-colour/nude/flesh-tone (not sure what to call this colour ahah) or maroon stuff though, lol. Thanks for a great video! I love your channel. It's super helpful :)
I start with purple and go to brown. Tanks to long sleeves. Purple, Pink, R,O,Y,G,Blue, Black, Grey, White, & Brown
Do you separate different types of clothes? Dresses? Slacks? Cardigans?
So, to throw a wrench in this: I organize the whole thing by sleeve length and item type (eg. Shirts, pants, dresses, outewear, etc.) with no regard to colour 😱 practical for me. Colour is pretty though.
Your method just speaks the idea that there's no ONE way to organize a closet -- there's SO many!
I personally like to do Pinks to Maroons to Reds.
I like red first
Ooh, you're a Kitt! We love it.
I go by sleeve lenght white, cream, yellow, light pink, fushia, red, marron ,light blue, navy, denimn, grey ,black and white black.
I LOVE having my closet this way. I have my bottoms this way too, from skirts to shorts to pants. It's so much easier to find things.
You're one of us :)
@@PracticallyPerfectthank you people think I'm crazy, I feel at home thank you 😩💜
Neutrals first
how about when it’s a mix of two colours the dominant colour can be considered. For instance pink = red+white so it should go before red. Similarly purple = red+blue so it should be between red blue?
I needed to see this thank you
Pink, red, maroon, purple
Love this!
In my closet I can’t always tell black from Lands end navy…do you have a way to “mark” them?
Neutrals in front are more practical even though they look better in the back. But for me I keep them in the front since it’s my most go to type of clothes.
We love this -- organizing is all about what's most practical for you!
Where does the white and black shirts fall in ROYGBIV?
I don't do roygbic because I don't wear red so I do poygbpwb with is pink orange yellow green blue purple white black but I also add my cloths in one rack in colour so all the trousers and tops jackets and hoodies all together but any multi collard cloths like rainbow and tie dye stuff with lots of colours go before the whites and blacks I also do by colour first them bu hoodies and jackets then t shirts and tops then trousers and shorts
Amazing explanation 😍 thank you so much for this video! I am trying to organize my closet space but I have two wardrobes and it's difficult to do it
Found ur amazing video..thank you so much..wellll...I'll try my 100%to make my cupboard like urs...lots of love..btw ur new subscriber ✌
Question, where does brown go?
I am Joni, Joni is me. Although I have mine sorted by type then my short blouses are color coded. I'm redoing my closet so I'll be taking some of these tips
Where does beige go?
Maroons are a blend of red and purple for me I guess. As for pinks I would rack them in with reds? I dont know. lol
Five-year-old son almost six-year-old son he loves organization he is almost OCD about it I have just organized his clothes by color then by school shirts school pants school sweaters dress clothes short shirts long shirts and I put pants in the drawers
I Joanie! Thanks!
Love our fellow Joni-style organizing friends!
I colour code my wardrobe and I go with the dark colours first then go to the light colours(I usually wear more light colours 😂) so i start with black on one end and white on the other end and within the colours I sort by pattern so it would be solid colour, stripes and floral.
We love that you sort by pattern, your closet sounds like a delight!
Maroon is red to me and pink after purple\violet
My closet is set up with neutral in front. I put pinks with reds but i put maroons with purple lol
Neutrals in the front -- you're a Joni!
You two are like a friend and me. We both love color-coordinated closets but she is more micro than me! I put all like colors together and "may" (on a good day) put long sleeve together, short sleeve together...but that's about it. I also have a section I call "all colors" because no color is prominent. I put pinks next to reds; maroons next to purples. I also put orange near red and yellow near orange. Blues go near purples. Blacks, whites, & black & whites go together. I would put the neutrals at the end:) I LOVE TO ORGANIZE!!!
Love your system, and your friendship! It's so fun to share a love of organizing :)
I also color code my closet. I classify pink and maroon as reds. Also I put white at the front of my wardrobe and black and grey in the back. Why? Because I have too much black and grey and want to incorporate more color in my life.
We love that you're using color coding in your closet to help you choose different items of clothing!
It would appear my closet is like Armageddon. I put all my dresses together in no color order though the majority are black or black and something then my skirts and the three pants I own and then a bunch of dress shirts for my skirts. I don't hang up tank tops, they go in drawers as do sweaters and t-shirts. But my hangers do match.
It's only Armageddon if it DOESN'T work for you... but if it does, we say go for it! Plus, you have matching hangers, which makes us deeply happy :)
And dividing by item type is absolutely a great system in the closet.
I put whites on the left, both pinks and maroons go with reds, and then, after purples, I go into grays and blacks for a neutral sandwich.
Maroon is a red not a purple, it goes with the reds.
I don't see any browns, tans, camel, khaki...?
Also, I have one top that's like kind of "salmon" and kind of "corral?" I really can't decide what color family it goes with.
I would say either red or orange but I think it depends on your personal closet and whether it blends better with your reds or oranges.
Where would you put browns?
You can definitely try them first in the neutrals section!
Where do you order the hangers?
Hi there! If you're looking for black velvet slimline hangers, these ones are an easy and affordable go to: amzn.to/3tMxPa6
We also did a hanger round-up video, if you want to check that out!

OMG, The red shirt scenario is SO ME!! Although, I am going to mix m upper Leven dressier with my lower level...blending into my sort by color.
I do pinks and purples after the reds! Purples into the blues, then greens...
Maroons are darker reds. Just like grays are lighter blacks. white, gray, black then color. ( I've switched things around a bit just to make sure that I don't grab more from one area and stop varying what I actually choose.
You are a Kitt!
Hi!
Hi there, thank you for watching!
Love this! I personally put maroons with reds and pinks with purples. My struggle is with browns. I put mine with neutrals and ombre whites to creams to browns but then the greys and blacks seem a bit out of place. Any advice for brown?
I put maroon/burgundy after my purples bc I feel like those colors flatter me more than red! I used to put them by red but then it took me longer to think of which shirt was more flattering on me. Helps to keep them in separate sections
Neutrals can always be a little tricky -- you can try dividing them up, with your whites, tans and browns at one end and blacks and grays at the other, to help them feel more segmented.
Let the teacher teach and please stop interrupting her.
Its personal,
i think you talk to much and as your channel suggests - " practicaly perfect " your unnecessary talk doesnt make it much practical ig , try to limit your other talks in the video 😅
I have all one sleeve length together, then rainbow colors within each sleeve length. Then my tops are also seasonal. I see I watched this 2 yrs ago too. I knew it sounded familiar. Lol
I love this video so much! In the case of organizing this rack of clothes I would say "maroon" falls more in the red category.
