  • *I have recently uploaded a newer version of this video with commentary on my process, as well as pics of the completed guitar*
The was done as an art piece for a friend, though I’m sure if done carefully could be done on a playable electric guitar. I wouldn’t recommend on an acoustic guitar as it would drastically alter the sound quality.
I used Stonecoat Platinum epoxy for a speedy set up and cure. I used a variety of mica pigments, as well as some spray paints ad glitter.
After it was fully set, I lightly sanded the imperfections on the front and the drips on the back, and finished with a clearcoat for a smooth glossy finish.
I the finished the face plate, headstock and entire back of the guitar with a bronze metal flake patina paint using both green and blue acid spray to oxidize it, then sealed with matte clear spray paint.
I think it turned out great, and my friend loved it!

very amazing. it would have been nice to see the finished product and all the work you did after the pour. I've seen the photo's, but I really wished you filmed it.

Thank you so much. Trust me when I say, I wish I had, too! I agree. I’m an artist and creator, that’s my passion. Trying to add videographer/blogger/blogger/UA-camr to my craft... It’s not easy. I was brand new to all of this and learning along the way. I admire the folks who do a great job with this, it’s incredibly time consuming and tedious (both filming and editing, especially if you are working alone) and takes away from studio time, which is where I’d much rather be, lol. But, I am always trying to improve!

what did you use to spray over like that? just water? soap water? something else?

Hi, to get the effects in the resin, I spritz with 91% alcohol.

You bet! I didn’t want to bore people with that part, lol, but I realize that was silly. Of course you want to see that part! Thanks for the suggestion. 🙏🏻😊

I'm sorry but this is a horrible technique due to the fact that you only painted one side of a guitar. I'm guessing the back has massive drips around the edge. If you are going to put in the effort to go this far with your project video, at least complete the back of the guitar. People come to this video for help resin coating their guitars and we all end up incomplete and disappointed.

I’m sorry you feel that way, and have chosen to judge me. It is a completely finished guitar. The back is beautiful, done with an oxidized bronze patina finish. Some have liked it as much, or more than the front. I was just new to making videos, and this video wasn’t my best work. The guitar is on display at a local cafe, Guitar For Life, and the owner loves it. It’s too bad you couldn’t choose kindness over criticism, and assumed its not complete, because it was in process at the time of the video. It was a gift for the owner of that cafe, who threw a benefit for my husband who had a near fatal heart event that left us over $125,000 in debt. It’s too bad you couldn’t have complemented the process and my art and asked if there was a way to see the finished project…

I could get into trouble with this! My husband has a few guitars just sitting around and I have some extra epoxy LOL
