Please link us to however you found that out. I’m very surprised to hear he had a jury trial. They normally force poor people to take plea agreements. It sounded like his public defender was actively avoiding him and I’m sure it’s because he planned on forcing him to take a plea agreement, so there’s no point gathering evidence to work towards a trial. So Jimmy must have found some money to get his own attorney.

    • @pm2886
      @pm2886 5 місяців тому +22

      Not quite.
Most of us have some kind of trauma in our past .. and plenty of people have really serious trauma in their past .. yet they don't become addicts. Global studies prove that fact, emphatically. Even people who've been subjected to the worst deprivations mankind can visit (eg brutal wars) topped by things like starvation etc, manage to get through life without becoming addicts or dysfunctional. They may have some minor personality quirks, but they function. They maintain intact families, go to work, pay the bills, put food on the table, and retain the respect of their communities.
The addiction and dysfunction we see in these interviewees is almost entirely a result of disinterested, self-indulgent parents. It's a very specific kind of parenting failure - a type that primarily happens in the richest first world societies.
Those people mentioned above .. who experience arguably much greater traumas but remain functional and intact - are the product of high quality parenting. Good parenting builds resilience. Such people are born into terrible circumstances .. deep poverty, war, etc .. yet have stable, focused, supportive parents who model diligence and self-discipline. That's the root of it all.

Unfortunately I think he's high in this interview, he can't sit still, his breathing is weird & talking fast like when you do too much coke. Pets absolutely know when your high and they don't like it. I think Jimmy would be a good fit at Comos' store, but he has to get away from that sugar daddy first.

Yes he interacts with a wide variety of people with varying degrees of mental/physical stability, but people watch these videos to see this raw untouched side of people that they wouldn’t normally get to. It allows for a deeper level of understanding and sympathy. so it rubs me the wrong way when mark makes comments trying to push his narrative of what’s going on, the opposite of what many are trying to get out of these videos. Mark makes interjections like “deal with it in court not on the internet”, when jimmy is literally talking about how he is dealing with it in court. or “everyone’s got their own little dramas”, as if he’s not talking about the outcome of someone’s life. I know first hand how badly the justice system is geared against the lower class. I was accused of a crime I didn’t commit. In jail, I was on the phone with a public defender for 30 SECONDS and they were already telling me about the plea deal they were going to make without ever hearing my side of the story. Thankfully my husband and I are “comfortable” to say the least and paid a private criminal defense attorney a $7,500 retainer. Within 12 hours I was out of jail on bail that cost us an additional $2,500. The only time I stepped foot in a court room was to plea not guilty. The case was dropped COMPLETELY. How can people get a fair chance in court when the people who represent them couldn’t care less about them or their case?! Many of these public defenders should have their licenses to practice stripped from them for not fulfilling their obligations and violating public trust.

Also extreme trauma like a sexual assault from someone you trusted can cause dissociation which interfere with memories by itself anyway. As someone whos been in recovery for over a decade, I completely understand where Jimmy is coming from when he says drugs aren’t the issue, the underlying problems are. Unfortunately for me, my underlying problems were not being able to physically handle withdrawal. I started using prescription medications in a social setting and as a “hang over solution” and I was young and naive and didn’t really understand that taking prescription meds was “bad” back then. I felt amazing at the time and kept doing it everyday for like 2 weeks. I realized how much money I was wasting so decided to stop. I felt so unbelievably miserable that I thought I was seriously ill. I didn’t even know I was going through withdrawal. To feel better I took another one and when I finally realized what I had done to myself I was stuck. I was terrified to tell on myself and kept it all hidden for two years until I got caught buying some by an undercover cop. Being caught was the best thing to ever happen to me. I had an amazing childhood and amazing life and no depression or reason to numb myself. Sometimes you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time and you get stuck in a situation you don’t understand.

It is a shame that the fear of being sick keeps people in their addiction. I'm 6 or 7 year clean off a bundle a day heroin habit. I talked myself into facing being sick and embraced dope sickness as the price that I owed for being an addict. I quit cold turkey. Was I terribly ill? Yes, but the understanding that I earned every ache, pain, bowel movement, cold sweat and muscle cramp that I had as the price of admission to the fun house ride I was on. One must overcome the fear and pay your ticket price to freedom. Making the road to recovery painless often undercuts the value of admission to wholeness. It shouldn't be easy to get clean, few people can place value on something that is casually earned. Hard work rewarded accordingly has more value to the recipient of that reward.

I understand the idea of “the problem isn’t the drugs it’s what’s inside you that’s making you seek them” but I think that some people use that to minimize their drug use and pretend it’s not a problem. But the truth is that sober people make better choices and when you get sober your life becomes much more stable because of it. Once you’ve done that then you absolutely should look inward and get to the root of the problem. But drug use isn’t just a symptom of the problem, it’s a whole problem in itself.

    • @ItsBrit

That's fundamentally incorrect tho. Every person on this earth has a vice. An activity or action they turn to for a dopamine hit. Be it food, shopping, quilting, or heroin. However those that turn to substance use happened to find a vice that isn't sustainable and seem to have a complete inability to live life on life's terms. The substance is absolutely a symptom of a need for that person to self medicate the shame they've accumulated thru life. Just removing the substance is not the cure all, if it was there would be a way higher statistical number for recovery. 1 in 10 for opiate use long term sobriety for example says that there is more to blame than physical dependency.
There are also sober people that are complete and total failures at life, so the blanket statement that sober people make better choices isn't true. I've seen sober people make just as much of a wreck of their life as addicts. And what is their excuse?
While yes everyone, sober or not, needs to take accountability for their part in how they have turned out in their life, nothing will ever change until everyone agrees the answer lies with preventing the trauma in the first place, or providing genuine avenues for healing the trauma after it occurs. 30 day stents in rehab will never fix it. Or at least not enough to change a 1 in 10 statistic.

I agree with everything you wrote - I also think people convince themselves they’re using drugs to fix or deal with an issue and not that the drugs have started to use and control them

Jimmy is a fascinating individual. He has the maturity that comes from experiencing downs falls and acknowledging that change must occur to move forward. In regards to “skid row “ yes, I agree with him, some of the buildings around skid row are beautiful and modern. Go down San Pedro street and you’ll see some these buildings. All the SRO (SingleRoom Occupancy ) in area are also being renovated and refurbished. I want to hear and see more of Jimmy . I want him to have that fashion career he wants. Trade Tech is the best school for fashion school. You don’t have spend the money that private fashion school costs.
I am sending good vibes to this beautiful being. His eyes show anxiety, fear and stress but equally they show kindness and desire for a better future . Just the fact that he loves his little dog*** , he got me there. We need an update on Jimmy please.

That doesn’t make any sense though.
He claimed he “blacked out”.....but he had just arrived at the guys house and broke in. So how would the guy have drugged him? Jimmy wasn’t around him until he came to his house, broke in, then “blacked out” and attacked him with a piece of broken glass....
The claims now about feeling like he was “asleep for days” on vacation is just lies in order to try and make it seem like a pattern of being drugged , as an excuse for his felony charges. Cause come on, how would someone not know if they had been “asleep for days”? You wouldn’t realize it if you went to sleep on Monday and didn’t wake until Thursday? B.S.

Yes. Don’t get me wrong, he seems nice but he struck me as a very unreliable narrator in his own story.
You just don’t accidentally end up with that many charges. I do think drugs have played a part. All his humming and hawing and inability to give straight answers makes me think he’s withholding what did happen.
He points out “where would I have gotten a shard of glass?” Did he not just SAY he broke through a glass pane to get the latch for the door undone? Potentially there was a glass shard because he JUST admitted he broke the glass to unlatch the door.

yeah, Mark needs to use a little more discretion when making these interviews. asking someone what they pay for rent isn't really right and asking what his legal situation was isn't great either.
those could have been edited out. i get he might wanna ask so other people watching can get help/get more info but i know that leaving abusive situations can mean that you'll get help from grants or relocation charities.
your circumstances can decide how much help you get but still, it's not something everyone can or wants to disclose.
