I think 2000 is more similar. Everyone lost interest in gold, moved on to tech and crypto. There is just tremendous buying power left and everyone who wanted to sell sold already. You have a whole generation of investors who don't even know what gold is and care only about price. As the price goes up they will slowly convert one by one.

Is there any comparison with the $USD in your chart? If not, the history of the $USD should have been in comparison with your chart.
I think the US$ index did not begin trading until 1973. Why I did not mention.
