I've been given that "abuela look" a few times when my wife was my girlfriend. The day I exposed my tattoos wearing my cutoffs at abuelas house....my lady, her cousins, and her tias all went silent where you can hear a pin drop. All of them stared at me with a "OMG no you didn't!" look then they looked at abuela. I haven't seen my granddaughter this happy before in her life. If "this" is who she chooses, then ok" - Beautiful. My mother in law became the second advocate for a quick wedding after she saw how we interacted with each other (we can be uncomfortably intense). It is so true that a lot of PR parents don't teach their kids Spanish, or at least second or third gens. I'm definitely going to teach my kids Spanish simply because my culture is such a big part of who I am. Great Video keep up the great work.
angel yaniel my parents didn’t teach me but luckily through many years of classes and practice I am fluent. I will definitely be teaching my kids though (if I should have them)

I think it's so important for the next generations to know Spanish but I understand why some parents don't (just so they don't stuggle with both languages) Having said that the Boricuas I've met up here are so proud of our culture. It's so cool that at least that is still getting passed down to the kids.
angel yaniel completely agree! It’s also a priority in my family because no one in my dad’s family speaks English (other than my dad) so we need a common language to communicate. Also, being bilingual (or multilingual) is a huge advantage which I would definitely want to give my kids.

As a Puerto Rican woman who doesn't speak Spanish (but tried to learn) that part is so true. Hahaha. My mother chose to never teach me because of the discrimination they faced for speaking Spanish when they moved to New York. She didn't want that to happen to us so we never learned. She had to learn English from the ground up when she entered kindergarten. There's different reasons but I wonder if it's the involvement of the USA that changes the perspective of the language for Puerto Ricans who moved to the mainland. Regardless, I really wished I had learned Spanish properly.
Kayla Gaines Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. If you don't mind me saying it, I think that the United States can be a really ignorant country. Here in Europe it's highly encouraged to learn more than two languages, with some people even speaking up to four.
Kayla Gaines you know. You can still learn. Like. It's a thing. I'm not going to call you less of a hispanic, but you learn math, science, etc without your parents I bet you can learn Spanish if you try
No one is less Hispanic/Latin@ just because they can't speak Spanish; culture is a complex, dynamic web of different aspects, of which language is just one, albeit not an insignificant one. Be that as it may, I think learning Spanish would be a very rewarding experience. I used to not speak Spanish either, and my parents were also first-generation immigrants, from Mexico. I decided to learn, and it was life-changing. Your parents and Spanish-speaking relatives, I'm sure, would be overjoyed to practice with you so you can improve faster.
Kayla Gaines Same but my parents are Mexican. They also faced discrimination for the same reason, learning English in elementary school. They refused to teach us Spanish. Some problems in school with the Mexican girls bc I didn't speak Spanish, white girls were cautious bc of my heritage. But all the boys had the biggest smiles when I walked by. I have picked up some Spanish here and there. I have kept some traditions and passed them onto my kids. Regardless, I love living in the US. US has been good to me and has given me a very comfortable lifestyle.

es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boricua
@@julietavega6087 Boricua significa que es de Borinquen o Borikén, antiguo nombre de Puerto Rico. De ahí la palabra boricua para designar a los Puertorriqueños.
Jenny you have got this spot on! great work - love it!
Hahahahahha she's right on point....living in missouri is misery🤣🤣🤣
Wow Jenny, muy bueno! Ya lo he visto como 6 veces y de paso lo he compartido. Siempre me hace reír. Eres muy inteligente y creativa, sigue así !
She said Yoni like and egg. I can't 😂😂😂
Just discovered this and wow, coming from a Colombian family, I felt this so hard. Love it!
Se me rompió el corazón al saber que era Boricua pero no sabía español. 💔 Pero que bueno que añadieron que estába aprendiendo. 😊👏
I kept having to rewind the video because I couldn't hear it over my laughter 😂 this is AMAZING
Just when abuela thought she was serving Yoni a plate of food. That's how my grandma is primero a sus niños les sirve, then she eats.
Abuela me hace recordar de mi abuelita. Same mannerisms, same philosophy. I miss my abuelita. Que descanse en paz. Your character brings back so many laughs for me though. 🤗 Thank you for what you do. Dios te cuide y te favorescza. 🤗
