So there is a product called the “cool cop.” Its a very similar device that’s meant to be stuck into police officers’ vests that are sold for $80-$100. I wish I’d seen this sooner. I’ve been using it for weeks and loving it. Several of my coworkers are also using them now. If anyone made some of these specifically for chargers and explorers (Common police vehicles) and in black or gray, it wouldn’t be hard to undercut the cool cop. And believe me, an AC hose that can get under the undershirt, uniform shirt, vest carrier, and 5lbs of kevlar is a godsend in Mississippi heat.
Retired now, but coolcop was a life saver! Luckily, my department bought them for us.
I remember these from years ago. About to make my own version similar to your design. Not gonna sell it though.
the shit that seppo taxpayers fund will never cease to amaze me. chargers & explorers everywhere, just no air con 🤯

I’ve read that anytime you get a Chinese manufacturer to make or even bid on making your product you open yourself up to having it knocked off.
You are doing some really important educational manufacturing content. This video succinctly summarizes a rant I go on once in a while drunk about how people don't really get artificial scarcity or digital abundance or how tooling scales and the way you make the money to build stuff isn't always the A-B way most people think.
One of the main reasons I enjoy watching shark tank every once in a while. Obviously it’s produced for entertainment, but the business and manufacturing discussions are spot on
@@Resyektt Humm... That's an interesting take. It is neat when you see people who have put in that work on that show but the sharks are absolute jokes.
But that said, I can't really think of a thing I really enjoy for deep dive so maybe (definitely) I'm just being a curmudgen. I have really been enjoying the Moore's Lobby podcast though and Asianometry, and Crafstman Steady Craftin here on youtube are really cool.
It seems like there should be some longer form more accessible media on the high risk world of product manufacture. There is a TON of high stakes drama. Humm. Sorry if I was dismissive up there. You got me thinking.
First off, I am making no claims to anything here.
This is the first time I have seen any of your videos. What a memory you brought back.
About 30 to 35 years ago, I made one of these. I used a vacuum cleaner hose and the hard plastic nozzle that flattens out to about 1/2" and had an angle at the end. I cut off about 6 inches of the nozzle, making the 1/2" part about 3 inches long.
I cut off the end that is attached to the vacuum. I made the hose just a couple feet long. I then cut some cardboard to fit on the end of the hose and used duck tape to secure it. The other end of the cardboard I made into a rectangular shape to fit over my vent in my vehicle.
It kept falling off, so I got some electrical tape and put on the vent end of the cardboard. It stuck out about 1/2" from the vent end of the cardboard and ended up being slightly smaller than the cardboard part of the vent end itself. This made a great seal around the vent. I put 1 layer of electrical tape on the inside of the makeshift electrical tape seal so that it wouldn't stick to the vent.
I made this for a different reason, though. My rear end and back would sweat like crazy. So I had one of those seat cushions that were very breathable and had springs inside it. It was mostly designed for airflow around your back and bottom when sitting in your vehicle.
I would put the nozzle between my legs sitting slightly on the nozzle. It would cool off your rear, back, and private parts very well due to the ventilated seat cushion.
I never would have thought that one day, someone would be selling an extremely similar design. I figured when they invented air-cooled seats that there wouldn't be much need for something like this anymore. I love my air-cooled seats. It beats having to do it with a hose coming off of a vent.
Thanks for the memories. Great video, and I hope you have a great day.
This was a fun personal story to read. Good ol backyard engineering with results. Thanks for sharing 🤘🏻
The "twist" is the chinese factory (or an associate) is the "fan" of his channel. They might already have a similar mold or process. There are already several sellers on amazon. One review actually stated they used it to help keep dogs in a crate cool in car.

These long form videos are really good!
I invented an Air Powered Pressure Washer. Posted a video on UA-cam, and now there are so many knock off videos on this platform of my invention it makes me sick. It only bothers me because these creators have never, mentioned me, asked my permission, or Posted a link in their description to my channel. Some have even said it was their original idea. It took a lot of effort to not only create it. But to perfect the design. Ugh
It was me.. I knew I should have made it blue instead of green, but Blew-Balls was already registered as a product according to the U.S. patent office believe it or not.
The crazy thing is that if someone just got in touch to request a licence, I reckon that hed just give it away anyway.
You know you can sue the fan and Walmart for using your pictures
I always wonder why you don’t patent some of these things so people can’t steal them so easily! You have a lot of good ideas imo
Edit: yeah I didn’t think of the thousands of dollars for the patent process!
He has talked about this before, he said it takes thousands of dollars and a lot of paperwork for it so he can't do it for every single one of his inventions, which is how people take advantage of it
patents cost a lot of money and are actually reasonably hard to acquire, and for small inventions like this it's unreasonable to do so
Not only what the other 2 comments said - costs a fortune, about 2 years of steps, legalese paperwork, etc - but you also have to go through the process for every country. A US patent does not protect against someone in China stealing your work. You have to file for a Chinese patent. You can't really do it yourself, either. I mean, technically, yes, but practically it's a big ordeal. I had the books "Patent it Yourself," by David Pressman (San Francisco patent attorney), and a companion book on doing your own patent drawings, and just skimming through them told me I was never going to get through it all myself. I've also worked at a company where programmers could file for process patents, and many did, and it was always years before they'd finally get awarded their patent plaques. There were attorneys with the company who did all that work.
@@gfixler And then on top of that, you have to enforce your patents (i.e. sue people that copy) to keep them valid. It is often more trouble than is really worth it, unless you are a multi-billion dollar company with a big legal department.
patents cost $10,000 minimum and only last for a few years. it's typically not worth it, especially for an independent creator like in this case
What's worse the fact that something like this exists or the fact that people out there are buying it
"The design is very human"

@@RandomStuffReally yep
Do you actually have any patents or claims to the stuff you invent? Also, I kinda think the manufacturer was the one who stole the idea and just said it was a fan of yours
This seems like the exact kind of thing the person who stole it would say.
@@nathanpelzel289 not really, im kind on board with this sentiment. He had over a year to patent this, market it, create a product etc and had not.
I was wondering the same thing. Obviously it’s morally wrong to just take peoples ideas but if there’s no patent then it’s not illegal. In this case it was even improved with a decent amount of engineering time and tooling cost. Not sure about the legality of using screenshots from UA-cam videos though. Seems scummy but like a legal gray area
@@Nicksperiments AFAIK the only wrongdoing here was using the screenshots from the videos. By posting an idea online you're pretty much giving it away

You can do this invention much more useful. I live in the alps in the winter, and when driving to the ski lift in the morning, my ski boots gets cold. Make a version with two hoses and use them to warm up the boots on the drive to the lift. I 3D printed a version myself for an external 12V heater, but using the cars own system is more convenient.

The beauty of this maneuver is they can't stop you from selling their stolen design under your own name without outing themselves. It's like calling the cops because the drug dealer ripped you off 🤣🤣🤣
Doesn't matter. China's IP laws are messed and any lawsuit or report filed against the thief will likely reach a dead-end because they're (probably) Chinese. Outing themselves would be like them calling the cops on themselves and the chief just kind of shrugging dismissively because he doesn't care that they stole your product.
Lol, what a great video. Love this stuff.

Just thought I'd mention that although I don't agree with his actions, if you didn't patent it (which would have also alerted you if someone already owns it or something close enough that yours could be considered infringing) He is well within his rights to produce it- because if you didn't you have no legal recourse against him; BUT he WOULD have recourse against you if you tried to interfere with production. Also he could patent it with his changes & you would essentially lose the ability to claim it was yours even if you had come up with it first. P.S. I saw something close enough to this in S. Korea more than 20 years ago, connected to a guy's new Fiat after he imported it- It'd didn't look anywhere as nice as your version & was a orangey-brown rubber/plastic. I don't know if he used it for the same purpose or not though.
we will need a follow up video .... the fan is sure to get in touch !
Fascinating content!

is nobody gonna talk about the fact that he’s wearing a grimace shirt?
*This reminds me of the Movie " Conspiracy Theory" where Mel Gibson wondered if a Secret Government was one of his Fans of his News Letter.*
Do you ever sue the people who steal
it's not patented
You can’t cause it’s not patented
is it worth it though?
Suing someone is super costly and takes forever, and that's even assuming they live in the US as well (or a western country).
You also can't sue someone if you haven't patented the idea first, and a patent cost around 15k to 20k USD each, so unless he plans mass production for sales, he's got very little ways to legally defend his inventions.
...
Thing is, inventing something is one third or fourth of the way - the rest is having it mass produced, and making it commercially available, which is no easy task.
Like he said, the R&D for car air exhaust fits, the factory molds for the plastic parts, etc already cost tens of thousands.
Then you have to get the certification for the US market, the EU market, from the plastic toxicity to how flammable the product is, or even how it's legal to have the driver use it (in case an accident happens and the insurance companies blames _him_ for it).
Then you need to mass produce it (so taking loans at the bank to fund the production), have it shipped to warehouses in the US/Europe/etc, have a staff to handle orders, packages, returns and refunds.
If you show up in court and you have done all these things, 300k+ USD already invested in, then you can claim the counterfeit caused you damages.
If you only had a prototype production run of 10 units, that you distributed to friends, then the court will basically shrug: sure the counterfeiter beat you to the punch, but if you weren't going to mass produce it in the near future, still leaked the product design publicly, without even patenting it, then the court isn't going to do much for you.
@@kaynkayn9870it depends.
So, the manufacturer no longer sent the order to the person who stole your idea and placed the order? I agree they did a decent job with the redesign, except the nozzle that goes up your shorts could be flatter, and less...phallic shaped....
no, it's china, they will just ship to anyone who gives them money and let US customs sort it out. copyright / trademark doesn't really exist in china.
Whole story is bonkers and amazing 😂
