  • My submission for the 2020 Khan Academy Breakthrough Junior Challenge. All artwork, audio, animations and edits were done by me, and a making-of video will be available soon!
    (More info below)
    I started the animation process by creating storyboards in photoshop. My vector art was created in Adobe Illustrator, and imported into Adobe After Effects for the animation. I used Adobe Premiere to cut all the scenes together into the final animation. The whole process took about ~120 hours, over a time span of about two and a half months. (mid-April to late June)

    This makes me feel special to be human, even if I’m just one in billions of humans, I’m a human in planet whose probability of life compared to all other planets is so minute it makes me appreciate my consciousness.

    I agree!! This is a very much kurzgesagt vibe. It is very cool, and the animations sublime. I never heard about this concept before this video. Very interesting and with multiple opportunities in future space exploration!! Instead, I did a life sciences/Covid video which I think you might find it as interesting as I found yours. It treats the relationship between bats super immunity and COVID. Very well done man! Cheers!

    Absolutely stunning animated video, congratulations. One question: what is your source for stating that recent optimistic estimates suggest that there might be 15,6 million intelligent civilizations in our galaxy? :-) I cannot find it on the web with a simple search. Thanks for guiding me in the right direction!

  • @jwarmstrong
    @jwarmstrong 3 роки тому

    The Drake Equation is a rounding error in a galaxy w/100 to 200 billion stars - the center of galaxy is too active w/ radiation & half of all stars are red dwarfs plus 2 or more orbit each other, nova w/ in 50 to 100 light years is deadly - etc..

    Are we alone in the universe? Yes. So there’s no other intelligent life out there? No there is but they are alone too.

    • @ZandraGibson
      @ZandraGibson 13 днів тому +1

      .. I'm confused as to what you mean by stating were alone but simultaneously coexist in the universe with other intelligent life, that is also alone.. elaborate please

    • @craigthescott5074
      @craigthescott5074 13 днів тому +1

      @@ZandraGibson Basically that statement means the distances involved between civilizations is so vast that we are all too far away to ever have contact with each other.

    As with many equations, if only factor is different, then the answer could be very different. Take the relativistic mass equation, if the speed an object is sublight speed, its mass is not significantly different, but at near light speeds, its mass dramatically increases. At light speed its mass is infinite which is maybe impossible. Many of the factors of the Drake equation are not known, so how can you make an even reasonable estimate of life elsewhere in the universe? The thought experiment is valid and does teach one how to think critically.

    The easiest solution to the Fermi Paradox is that the aliens are already here. The Earth is located in a rather 'remote' part of the Milky Way Galaxy. If you do the math the distance from Earth to the nearest section of the milky way with a concentrated amount of planets is proportionately similar from the distance of Earth's major population centers to an uncontacted Amazon tribe or the people on North Senegal Island from the Indian Subcontinent. We study these people the same way aliens study us.

      Has anybody done any calculations on the odds our moon is were it is? I think the dang thing is some sort of space craft. It has a near perfect orbit around us and is the perfect distance away to create a solar eclipse. Maybe they are here after all just watching and observing us from the moon?

    • @alaskansummertime
      @alaskansummertime 2 роки тому +1

      @@jwsibelievehikeandfly2272 The moon was created early on in the solar system by a collision between a large planatoid which struck the Earth and kicked up a large debris cloud. Its perfect orbit is a natural expression of gravity. We can watch primitive tribespeople without them knowing we watch them so I'm sure any alien could watch us. I mean WHY put running lights on a UFO? If they are here then they are probably not viewable. Although I've seen some weird shit and know others that have too. If you want to get into a rabbit hole look into universal dimensional collapse. This theory that ancient races got into big cosmic wars and let loose destructive devices which collapsed dimensions. A process still ongoing causing the dimensions to collapse in on themselves. This would also explain a lot of paranormal shit like ghosts and UFOs.

    There must have been one civilization that was capable of colonizing our part of the universe first. This civilization must be the ruler of this part of the universe and therewith the rulers of all other civilizations. But what I ask myself is does this equation take into account the number of life-on-the-planet-destroying events like an asteroid. No it doesn’t. Something could destroy the kind of beings on the planet before they reach something that makes them conquer space or send a signal.
