Blew my knee out on that damn hill climb years ago. Good video. Liked the bonus material in the middle, climbing the steep rocky son of a bitch by the mine is almost as fun as climbing 7-1.
Thanks! Bummer about your knee. That hill by the mine is crazy steep, I hope I get to try going up it next time. I was really overheating it was so hot this day, but now I've been to the infamous 7-1, and know what to expect for next time!
Looks fun Doug! Me and James are still trying to get out for some riding in the Sierras. James just got a big class A motorhome and box trailer rig, so he's sorted. Maybe you could chaperone us some time?!
When I bought the bike almost 5 years ago, it had 15/42 (+2 teeth over stock in back), and i've been running it ever since. Never felt the need to change it, and the chain and sprockets still haven't worn out! I wouldn't mind trying stock gearing, or +1, but not worth my time and money to mess with it.
Wow that is geared pretty tall since stock is 14/50. Mine is set up for trail riding as well with fly wheel weight and 18 inch rear wheel. When I bought mine used it came with 14/48 and I never changed it either. Only makes it 4% taller from factory since they say changing the front one tooth is about 7.2% ratio change and one tooth on rear is only 2%. Stock gearing I think would be fine I just wish they were 6 speeds. or at least a taller 5th like the newer YZ250x models.
@@race2race1 oops! you are right 14/52. my memory failed me on the walk from my garage to the computer! The other thing I added was a wide ratio transmission (oem yamaha stuff, purchased through rocky mountain). It doesn't change 1st or 2nd, but does make 4th and 5th taller (I think it said 3rd was shorter). I wouldn't have spent all that money if it wasn't for my 4th and 5th gears being roached sometime after I bought the bike (5th was totally unusable), so as long as i'm replacing gears...
I assume you mean cutting off that final hill climb at the end. Yes, my bad, I forgot to turn the camera back on for the final attempt. I tried about 3 or 4 times, and my body was overheating bad. I made it to about the spot up where my buddy was when I first pulled up to this crazy hill. It took a group of us pushing to get these bikes up that hill. I can't wait to go back and give it a better attempt, now that I know what to expect. I'll save more energy for this part of it!!
thanks for the reminder, I just watched it again, and that reminds me that I need to get back to GT! (haven't been back since this vid) 90% of what is in this vid, i've only ridden that one time, so I want to ride it all again, now that I know what to expect (I want to "clean" that last uphill on 7-1!). I'm always looking for someone to ride with, so let me know if you want to join. JC posted here earlier that he's up for some GT riding. (I've ridden GT less than 10 times, so I don't know it well, but i do have gps tracks) Doug
OnTo1Wheel “clean” 7-1 going up??? Damn! I’ll gladly cheer you on, I don’t think I could do it. We ride GT with a small group and know the park very well. We’ve got a core group of guys that frequent GT and areas attached and a much larger group (30 plus) that meet twice a year for a week each at Stony. Nothing fancy, just good guys that love riding and searching for the good stuff! Chad Dwyer 916.803.0708

If you need a guide for more hidden stuff out there send me a pm when you go. I'm a stones throw from GT
Jacob Cummings I’m a GT regular and would love to ride with ya.

i'm in!! Lets make a plan
What gearing are you running in your YZ250?

I am guessing you meant 14/52

Great video but you cut off the best part of 7-1! You went up??? Manly.

OnTo1Wheel just watched this video again. Some of the best of GT in this video. You ride GT often?
