Ethan, great job! I've had a good looking transription of this sitting among my sheetmusic for years. I kept telling myself I'll learn it soon. Now it's time after watching you. Thanks!
Hey Ethan can you do a tutorial on the left hand ? it’s like you playing the bass double . I cant figure out how you play the bass with the octave to the minor and major thirth . Would be great .
Hey Eddy! When I find some time I'll whip one up. The tricky part will be getting that swinging feel. The pattern doesn't really fall on the downbeat, especially on beat one. The pinkie hits ahead of the beat, and that's what really gets the whole thing moving.
Yes, mostly by ear. But if i can peek at another pianists fingers, I'll never pass that up! Sometimes I'll glance at a transcription, but I usually try to avoid them. I find that learning from transcriptions of recordings make it harder for me to really get inside of a tune - to capture the feel, find room for improvisation, and develop some kind of subtly of expression - which is what's really all about. Thanks for listening!
@@droidean I find it tedious, too, for sure! But nothing comes easy when it comes to the piano :) Plus, the work pays off on the back end, when you may actually still remember the tune 5 years later! I probably only play this tune twice a year, but it's still in there somewhere..... Compared to a rag i learn from sheet music, if I don't play it for a month, it's gone!
Very nice.

You transcribe this stuff just by ear?

@@EthanLeinwand wow. Super inpressive. I do that, too, but i find the process so tedious.
