This was actually one of the best shounen anime with a unique cooking battle concept.. I thought at first it was ridiculous but when I watched it I got hooked and became a fan of this anime.. it’s many years since I watched it..
And the art was good too, though in my opinion it starts to drop on quality after the battle with the elite 10. While the series does have over the top way visual for their cooking, at least it still pretends to explain the technical stuff of the cooking. But by the last season, it just goes all out on the ridiculous aspect leaving the charm of the previous seasons. At least that's what I think.
From what I heard the reason the quality drop after elite 10 is the chef that gave the mangaka advice have maternity leave(is that how you write it? English is not my first language) so the mangaka just wing it@@presixnine
@@dynamo366 I recalled that was the case too, as I follow the manga and kinda engage on forum's discussion for each chapters. What kept me from reading the manga was to know about the ending and the good art. Not really the same case for the anime however, as I drop it after the elite 10 arc. As the studio somehow drop the animation quality too on the last season's early episodes.
The story's quality definitely plummeted at the tail end of the series. Everything else was great tho. As a package, I'd give the anime a stolid 8.5/10.
@@presixnineI’d recommend watching the last 3 episodes of season 5 at least. It genuinely made me cry out of nostalgia just because the show was ending and I’ve been through a rollercoaster of a ride through the show
@@AmogusAbobusAutobusmy first time watching this show a friend recommended the series and i watched it. First episode was good and the “plot” was okay. i kept watching and watching and for sum reason i couldn’t put it down 😭 it was so good and tackled some interest themes that you see in the real world. Genuinely a top 15 anime for me.
@@Mandaweyfax that was me when I first watched it. I got super hooked after the whole Meat Meat episodes just because of the troll Soma was and the confidence he had no matter how many times he lost
I didn't realize it before because I was too young, but after rewatching the entire anime, I noticed every food dish shown in the openings is every dish all of the characters had created.
The character design in Food Wars really is absolutely phenomenal. It never stops being impressive to me how varied and unique the character designs consistently manage to be. None of them feel like they're too similar to other characters, and they all emphasize the character's personality really nicely. Food Wars genuinely has some of the best character designs of most battle shounen series. It doesn't matter who you're talking about, the guys or the girls -- they're all fucking great designs. Also, this series uses metaphors HEAVILY to describe the various techniques the characters are using to cook with, or to describe their relationship to other characters in the show at the moment, which makes for some very fun moments.
As someone was has watched all 5 seasons twice, I'd say it's definitely an awesome anime. It has lots of characters and they develop over time. Even the side characters grow along with the MC. I do recommend taking breaks because you definitely want to savor the anime for as long as you can. I rewatched it around September this Fall. It was nostalgic, but I finished it too quickly.
Tyyyy for react To this, Personally is One of my favorite animes of all times, all the Openings and Endings are soooo Good lmao, there’s any that isn’t good.
@@randomdudelol5263 Yeah a lot of it was the person who helped with the recipes/writing is a chef and food writer but she had to take maternity leave. I remember as it was airing, it was all over the forums of speculation that was why it felt so different from S4.
Food Wars literally is a battle shonen. It, alongside with Danmachi, is also one of the two series JCStaff has really cared about in recent years, which is why the animation is so much better than what you'd normally associate with a JCStaff anime. What makes this series even better is the mangaka hired a professional chef as an advisor for the series, and the manga contains recipes of dishes made in the series (and I have made a number of them over the years).
@@andhikanovyanto I've made the mapo tofu noodles with the curry meatball. Other than getting the wrong kind of tofu (I got the silky that just crumbled to pieces) and using WAAAAY too much curry in the meatballs... it was still really good.
Food Wars is basically a sports anime, with cooking as the sport. It follows the formula in the best ways and it's a ton of fun to watch. You'd have a good time
It is literally as you say in the reaction, they are all food battles, obviously there is no real fight, but each battle is represented as a fight, where each of the participants fights for who has the best flavor and how one is represented. . same on the plate. In addition, the events that are organized in the anime are all crazy and well organized, and if I tell you how they treat the past, it is already a masterpiece. I would love for you to react to it.
There are a lot of characters in this show that you see regularly, but it's one of those shows that I ended up actually remembering all of them. A lot of reaction channels that have seen it ended up remembering them as well. I think it's mostly because they're all distinct and have defining character traits. JC Staff always pulls off bangers. S1 had great animation but it got a boost in budget you can tell in S2. This and the Chinese cooking donghua, Cinderella Chef are my favorite cooking shows. Cinderella chef has some similarities and it looks beautiful as well.
I got all 5 seasons on blu ray, this one has a special place in my heart as someone who loves cooking and is a huge anime fan. A lot of people shy away from it cause of the food-gasm ecchi scenes, but it is actually so good! The music is great, all the characters and character development are very well done and they actually go in depth for a lot of the food recipes (and they were all actually created by a real chef)
Woah I was your 1k like Also loved your reactions this show has been a favourite of mine since a long time so I hope all of your reactions make it to UA-cam
Shokugeki is not one of my first anime. But is is one of my all time favourites. You can tell the love that went into this, the characters are all amazing too. The food recipes you can actually make and are DEVINE too.
I am now in Culinary School because this of how cool this show was to me. I saw the vision, and its my dream now. People can say whatever they want, but I will be forever grateful for Food Wars 🙏
In the manga/anime series Bakuman which is about creating manga etc. they use this one term "unconventional battle manga", which I think really describes Food Wars well. There is battling but not of the physical kind, it's all on the plate!
A reason why the food looks so good, is because I belive in the first 4 seasons, they had help by a proffesional chef to make the food, but in S5..... They took a turn....
It's well known but not always watched because people generally get the impression it's too lewd without realizing how good it actually is as a straight up show. It's funny that well known youtubers have at least watched some, if not all of it because it's very informative having the cooking actually being written by an actual chef/food writer. People like Chef Paul, Babish, Alvin, Uncle Roger, Chef Brian Tsao and Frenchie etc.
We all know the budget food in anime gets. So the budget for a cooking anime should at least be this much . Also one of the few reactors who actually can identify the metaphors.
It actually has fights, but not in real time, its just like the foodgasm scenes you saw, sometimes when a food is great they compare it to a weapon, and they have an imaginary fight with each other, or the clothes getting ripped off characters because the food is that good. But other than that this show is a masterpiece. Cool, has very great story depth with each character, very recommended
Food Wars is really good. Rising Rainbow, Chronos and Rough Diamonds are peak openings not only for the song also for the visuals (also love the Nano.Ripe songs). Yukihira along Gintoki and Prince Baka from Level E are my top 3 "Weekly Shonen Jump main protagonists", great characters. And yes that red hair girl is peak (Rindou and Tsukasa are fantastic).
To let you know the 1st 4 seasons is the main story (1st 6 openings). The 5th season (7th op) is the "After Story". The author of the story planned to conclude his manga (where the 4th season ends), but the publisher demanded him continue for a lil while longer. The "after Story" had a pretty noticeable drop in quality due to the publisher giving him a much smaller budget to work with and very tight deadline; Also didnt help the chef he hired to assist him for the food battles had to take a maternal leave due to her having a child at the time. So overall the story quality and battles ended up being generally worse. It's not bad but just a fair warning.
Although it may seem strange and morbid on the surface, it is actually a good anime. The ending is a bit controversial, but as you saw with SAO, they sometimes exaggerate. In addition, the recipes they show are real cooking and are perfectly replicable irl
Foodgasms aside, this show actually has some ounce of cooking knowledge in it and frankly serves that itch if seeing amazing looking anime food, I didn’t finish the whole show but the first 3 seasons I really did enjoy the actual like food part of the show
