KTM 390 Duke, Used vs New | KTM 390 Duke FAQ #13
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 чер 2023
- Should you even think about a used KTM 390 Duke given everything you read online about it? Yes you should! The 390 Duke received a big update in 2017 with better suspension, a bigger tank and better throttle response etc. These go for about half the price of a new 2022 model today on the used market. The oldest ones, 2013s sit a bit under a lakh. So they're super cheap to buy. They're also quite reliable. To make double sure, avoid the years when big changes came... so 2014s are better than 13s and the 2018s over 2017s. And KTM parts are cheap, right after you buy, get it serviced, change all the fluids and you should usually find a reliable motorcycle. Remember there are loads around and some are ridden badly. So take your time and do not rush in to the purchase.

Are you stupid ? That's how you share a link?
I m still riding my 2014 390Duke till date with no issues and no sign of me selling it in the near future.😂
Better than the upgraded 390Dukes.
If you would sell it one day how much would you charge

Go for Japanese big 4 for second hands. I guess that's it 😅.
Well said sir. I got myself a second hand Duke 390 at half the price of a new one. It's a 2019 model.
How much did you pay ? Can you share bit more?
@@sandesh9225 Including 1 service, registration and insurance of the bike, it costed me around 2 lakhs. I bought it through a dealer in Aug 2022
The bike had 18k km when I bought it. No issues till now.

@@sandesh9225 I paid 2 lakhs for a December 2019 model and it had 18000 km. I bought it from a dealer.
@@adityachhugani9747 thanks! Can you help me find old 1st gen duke ?
I had the same idea. Saw a bunch of used Dukes under 70k, plus the additional work on them would be at least 40k. So under 130k, I could definitely own a 5 year old, 7 year old or even a 10 year old motorcycle. Not to forget the KMs it has already travelled and the abuse it has already undergone.
But adding more 25k, I could own a Yamaha MT15 v2, which is not a KTM but a decent modern naked sports motorcycle.
Yeah, it'll not have the performance similar like a Duke 390, but for someone who will not visit a racing track in a million years, like me, Yamaha MT15 v2 makes more sense.
I think used Dukes are truly for someone who has that brand value and respect in them. For the rest of us, we have newer options available rather than buying a decade year old motorcycle.
That’s exactly the reason why I bought MT-15 instead of a pre owned KTM 390
That seems like a stupid comparison, its like you went out to buy an amg and then came home with a mini cooper
@@leansnscenes7806 Hey, if you are a KTM fan and have the extra funds, go for it. But most normal middle class boys who can only afford 1 motorcycle which they will ride it to their graves, they will not opt for a decade old motorcycle when they can get a new motorcycle with decent performance.
New stuff trumps used stuff in this country no matter the brand, for middle class at least.
Because then if you are one of the ultra rich, why settle at a used KTM? Go even bigger.
@@NAMELESSHOSTAGE the used motorcycle market is as big as the new motorcycle market. It's not true that most of the middle class doesn't buy used.
It also doesn't make sense to compare bikes with such large differences in performance and experience.
@@AtomicVoid95I can see your point about the comparison b/w D390 & MT15. But I also get the logic of the OP. I bought a motorcycle last year, & despite yearning for a higher powered motorcycle like a 390 or a 650, I settled for a new Hunter. Simply because I DO NOT trust the riders in our country to sell a bike in good condition, that has not been abused, or has not faced existential crises.
2 yrs ago, I was on the lookout for a used car, which took 6 months of my life w/o result. And I'm in the NCR region, imagine. The kind of money I was ending up paying for something that has limited life and essentially has also spent much of that already, made me realise until & unless there is systemic support for the used vehicle market, & the public learns to maintain a vehicle properly, buying a used vehicle in India is a gamble. It's like standing in a queue, We might see ppl flaunting prim used vehicles, but when we get one ourselves, we'll end up realising the mistake.
We would love to have a video on the topic of the points that are needed to look out for while purchasing an used 390, or any performance oriented two wheelers for that matter, like R15 or RC200 etc…. That would be of great help!
Could you make a shorts on the small changes it came with every iteration.
I got one used 2019 390 11k driven for 1lakh 😅.... I love 😘 it

sir waiting for ur new ns 200 review
I was always looking for a new duke 390.My heart was broken after seeing the BS6 in 2020 for its under belly exhaust and KTM said they have a bash plate for it. That was the moment I clearly guessed this is a temporary fix to that new exhaust routing. If I get this now, sooner I will regret once ktm completely changes the system and that happened in 2023 with a whole new bike with a larger ground clearance. I decided to pick a duke 390 bs4 2019 model and I am happy with it till date with no exhaust issues !
Really needed this
You should do a video on used bike. How to own one. Special a KTM Duke, your experience will
Help us allot.
I bought a motorcycle last year, & despite yearning for a higher powered motorcycle like a 390 or a 650, I settled for a new Hunter. Simply because I DO NOT trust the riders in our country to sell a bike in good condition, that has not been abused, or has not faced existential crises. Also, in the case of premium bikes, the Q. of *fiddling with the stock integrity* comes up. Exhausts, air filters, brakes, suspension, god knows what all could have been changed. Then you're not buying a bike _all new for yourself_ , the one from the manufacturer that *you actually fell in love with.* Its a custom job that you do not even recognise as the bike you loved initially.

That's true! Buying a used vehicle comes with its fair share of potential issues. Still, the golden rule is to always buy a second hand vehicle after all doubts have been ruled out and one is 100 percent convinced about it.
In our part of the world a New 390 is roughly 7.8k USD for latest model. A gen1 is about 1500 USD.
Yeah, the used bike values in the US are nuts!
Not a good choice to buy a pre owned KTM, especially the 390s. Most examples would be abused and KTM does not necessarily make the most reliable engines either
This goes for any high performance machine generally
still i have the old bs3 duke 390 dazzling performance
only problem is rear pillion comfort small seats
but but the 2024 dukes are damned beautiful and full of upgrade s - 2013 owner
I have bought a 2017 model for a bargain.. Hoping for fun filled ride ahead
Congratulations @veereshhiremath8119! And good luck for your rides!
How to identify those when we buy a used motorbike can you make a video on ot
I test rode the Duke 390 today. And let me tell you I have ridden tons of superbikes but nothing excites me like the Duke☠️☠️☠️ booking it on Monday.
Superbike😂? Which superbike did you ride? Any superbike is better than 390
@@hrathikrajshetty5043 the Daytona 675r, Harley Street 750, z900, BMW r18 and a few more. I said it excites me, not that it's better. Maybe the Daytona but the Duke feels very surreal
@@abhyudaydayma I see.. Maybe because of power to weight ratio of 390
@@hrathikrajshetty5043 yeah, it's very fun to ride is my point👍🏻
Actually u can redline 390 easily in city , thats why its exciting, u can redline superbike only on highway, anyday daily thriller 390
Personally did want a KTM myself...but unfortunately the ones i found were all abused, to the points where I've found bikes with barely any engine oil left inside, some wirings were ruined and i once found a bike where all its Wirelooms were eaten inside out by rats?! Please keep an open mind when you buy a second hand you guys!
I’m thinking to sellout my R15 v3 2019 for a old 390. I really took great care of my v3, still in excellent condition, but really feeling low to sell it out… Cz Emotions

What are the main things we need to take care/check while buying 2nd hand duke 390?
is the 2014 model best out of the lot of the first gens? (from 2013 to 2016) or are the 15's 16's as good if not better than the old ones?
What would be a best place to start looking?
Would you recomend an Apache RTR 310 over Duke390 for a new bike from dealer if money is not a barrier.
Can you help make a review video on Dominor 400 and RE interceptor
I was thing of getting used ktm 390 and this video showed up. Thanks shumi👍
No problem 👍
Best of luck!
That Yamaha FZ X 150 also looks good as an option.
Modern features, retro style, decent performance as a daily driver.
Someone who wishes to have Hunter 350 but has a stricter budget, can definitely go with it.
We tend to stress over these engine sizes, brand values, etc, when modern machines with enough features can fulfill most of our daily requirements to buy groceries and drop children at their school or visit a relative in the next city.
Thanks !
Can you make a video on what all to inspect when buying a used motorcycle, like each technical aspect too

What u look before buying used ktm or any bikes?
The owner
Tyres, clutch unit and exhaust..!
KTMs are relatively very cheap for maintainance considering the power it offers. The reason why chapris also buy second hand KTMs and so the resale value is high in ktm. If you don't have the budget , get a used KTM with proper checking as most redline them without regular oil change and other periodic maintenance. It won't burn a hole in your pocket for the maintenance if you have the money to buy petrol because it is a drinker
Good points Akash!
I feel pretty expensive for the preowned ones,
Love you shumi
Should i consider getting a 390 duke 2023 as it comes with ~25% lower price compared to the 2024 duke 390? I have ridden mostly smaller motorcycles before and am not entirely sure if i can be a good judge even if riding both of these back to back.
Consider? Yes! But go with the bike you like more, not the one that's cheaper for sure, HR!
Bro i wish to buy used rc 200 2020 still its is worth
I am confised between New Pulsar N250 or used Duke 390(post 2018).... please make a full review on Pulsar N250
As an owner of the N250, I'd say get the 390 because there's literally no comparison.
But now if you prefer mileage ease and comfort of riding and still have a bike that's exciting and fast, you can buy the N250. For straight up performance and thrill there's no comparison for the 390
Hmm, so wait for the 2025 Gen3, instead of the 2024, if buying new? Yikes, that is a long wait if waiting for the Gen 3. However the logic is impeccable, if avoiding the initial niggles are important.
What's everyone's view of the RC 390?
Never get a used duke until u know the owner and their habits about maintenance
New look + Old engine will be 💥
🤣♥️
Why do i get this shorts right after I buy the 2024 390😢
In that case, congratulations @mlewinfernandes9818. We wish you an awesome time with it.
When is the duke200 getting updated?
Or will it ever get updated?
We're hoping it does get updated soon but no confirmations from KTM so far, thangboihaokip!

I recently got a used 390 Duke from 2015. Can the front brake rotor of the new dukes (320mm) be fitted on my duke (300mm)? Has anyone done that?
Yes it can. If we remember correctly the spacers you need to position the callipers are in the rotor’s packing even
@@motorinc oh interesting! Thanks for the insights!
Which design does shumi prefer the old or the new?
He likes the new design for the space it offers (for legs as well in the seat) and he likes the old one for how sad that bike always looks

Old one still smokes that new toy
You can blame the emission norms for that.
1st gen has a wild exponential powerband...ones after that were linear powerband
pay attention and get a new one
Yeah the parts are cheap and unreliable just like the abs motor which definitely gets spoilt and it’s for 21k from the service Center also the tyres would cost around 10k minimum.😅
Thanks for letting us know Amey! TBH this hasn't been the experience of all the various people in our circle who have 390s
You’re most welcome, as an auto enthusiast it’s my pleasure to inform people so they don’t fall trap to the faulty ones.
Also it definitely happens with the 1st gen 390s and the dominar if you look up the internet you shall find quite a lot of such issues.

Engine rebuild
🤔
@@motorinc I heard that KTM's 390cc segment bikes require an engine rebuild after approximately 50k to 60k kilometers of running. Is this true?
Not in our experience no. The KTMs are sensitive to maintenance and you have stay on schedule, but that's it
