Unfortunate for Commuters, but is direly necessary. The LRT system is practically crumbling down and needs giant renovations, especially the Silver Line.
Yes we have a new light rail line about to open up mid 2025 but the T was what I grew up on live right by South hills JCT is s kid but you are Phoenix Phoenix is growing really car centric out here was a real culture when I moved from Pittsburgh here
@@trevorthefoamer220 I live in central Phoenix and i went to Chandler the other day and it's like a whole different world 30+ miles from home but sometimes it's good to get out the city but it's so spread out out here but there's alot of ppl from Pittsburgh out here
I think it’s just pitiful that we live in the state that does not prioritize its transit systems, the T in Pittsburgh and SEPTA in Philly are the two largest transportation networks in the state, SEPTA being the largest and we have to fight tooth and nail to get the legislature to fund Transit sufficiently.
While the transit organization definitely should have communicated with the public ahead of time better, the fact that this maintenance work being done is a good thing. It feels strange how this news story paints an image of the transit organization in such a negative light.
Ridership would increase if somebody had the guts to install license plate readers at the Liberty and Fort Pitt tunnels and all other entrances to the Downtown so that the $9 daily toll being charged in NYC would be used in Pittsburgh to fund maintenance and expansion of the T lines.
This rider that complained about the monthly pas cost must not have to pay for parking downtown.Besides the cost to just drive add parking cost and the T is a bargain. Not to mention the traffic problems you will have many times at rush hours.
Frustrating but necessary. IMO they should’ve mentioned the necessity of the maintenance and the potential consequences - ya really want the system to end up like our blasted roads?
Not understanding tho why work isn’t being done on nights and during off peak hours like other systems , considering it don’t run 24/7 making people take a bus bridge between 2 Central business district stations during rush hour in the winter is kinda crazy
they have to remove the tracks to replace the concrete mate what they could do however is work on one track at a time, so that they can keep running trains in both directions in the other track
I agree they should have did it in soring and summer. How ver at some point the T needs to be extended to places people in the city linits want to go to such as Oakland and other places in the East End
"Monthly pass is almost a hundred dollars!" Wait, I'm sorry are you implying that you have a monthly transportation pass that's LESS than $100??? Some people don't know what they got 😭
@robertlunderwood $100 for an unlimited transportation pass relative to nearly every other option is not a joke, even if there's problems. My comment wasn't about whether or not you think the service is perfect. Look at it this way, will she cancel the pass and use alternative means? If the answer is no, it's very likely the value of the service has in fact not yet failed it's price tag. People don't willfully continue paying for "jokes".
@@thzene4967 Port Authority barely goes anywhere and doesn't run frequent enough to justify being tied for the 5th highest fare in the country. It's tied with NYC which provides far more service.
@robertlunderwood You're not understanding the point. At all. The difference isn't whether or not you like the service, it's whether or not the price is justified relative to all transportation options in that metro. And idk what you're looking at but everything I've seen both online and indicated from these comments show a monthly pass in NYC being $132. This one is $98, a full $44 monthly difference. Anyway if anyone wants to stick it to them just buy a car and pay $800+ a month instead for payments, insurance, gas, and maintenance. Just to still get an imperfect experience since you'll be sitting in traffic, traveling imperfect roads, or sometimes having emergencies like flat tires that result in delays in your travel in this imperfect world. All for hundreds more in costs every month. A "joke" 😂
A transit line that is so ridiculously over-engineered that simple maintenance and repairs to the existing line result in daily shutdowns and cost well over $100 million a year. There were never service disruptions like this when street-running trolleys served the South Hills. Watch those shuttle buses stop running when drivers call in sick. This is what happened last year when the Downtown subway was also shut down for months.
I thought for a second they’re extending or creating new lines
That's what I thought too.
Damn me too. Disappointed
😂😂😂
We call it facility management. People should be happy that the company found the funding to do these works. Greetings from Germany.

Hopefully they extend the T one day I moved to Phoenix and our light rail here is always getting new phases added
Their population is growing. Thats the difference

Yes. Maybe frustrating, but way better than tracks breaking under trains.

Well, you gotta renovate at some point

Not strange at all - media corps are owned the same conglomerates that have interests in oil and gas, and automotive. Of course they bash on transit.
Bitching about a $100 monthly pass is crazy.
You couldn't get one month's gas that cheap, let alone insurance + monthly payments.

In nyc our monthly pass is about $135

They forgot to mention that the Mt. Washington tunnel will be closed from late February through October
No pain no gain. But I taste the point that winter isn’t ideal.

This country puts people on the moon for fun but can’t run or fund a train
They might as well shut down the entire system indefinitely!!!
