- Some disaster recovery teams are tasked with recovering bodies of those swept away in mudslides, landslides or drowned in the historic flooding from Tropical Storm Helene. It's a sometimes traumatic assignement.

Our dogs got depressed if they couldn't find people alive after days during a rescue in George building collapse, so every day one person would go into a safe hole and hide, and when dogs found them, dogs got so excited and then worked harder, it also stopped their depression finding only bodies

That’s what handlers had to do after 9/11. I think that may be when handlers recognized that dogs get PTSD as well.
@@beverlystewart1096 you know,, I never even thought about that,,, I was working a dog slave production job,,,I came home slept, went back to work,,had kids,, all jobs at home,, no time even to think!! We scared,, and prayed,, but never knew about clean up.
These people and dogs are absolute legends doing one of the hardest job ever.
Absolutely. The sad part about this situation is that we as citizens here have been retrieving bodies of people and animals from the rivers. We have had to protect our children from things the can’t unsee. 😢 I have heard a few dogs have been so confused about the difference of living vs dead in retrieval.

before the mental health stuff .. people & pets need a place to live & food ect. . people & dogs helping is good mental health right there & not everyone can afford " a good shrink .. so lets not put the horse before the cart . People & dogs helping , giving compassion ~ that's the best kind of emotional & mental health there is .!

Cadaver dogs are not rescue dogs... they go on the job when rescue is no longer in the cards.

The people need to know how bad it really is and how the nation's leaders are handling and reacting to it. Trump went there and in person after raising a massive amount of money to help these people..Kamala and Biden are avoiding the topic altogether and definitely haven't gone down there in person..

My heart dropped in my chest when they were reporting that 1,000 were unaccounted for a week ago.. my immediate thought was that statistically that’s really really bad and how many were swept away in flash flood mudslide.. omg this is so devastating 😰😭💔
Sadly, there are so many buried in debris. On Facebook, NC outdoor adventures, posted a video in which she says they walked a 6 mile stretch along the river and marked 100 spots where bodies were at. Being in a remote area, no one had been there yet to dig up the debris. She expected it to be months.
She said they THINK it was possible but they really wasn’t sure… this is how the rumor gets spread.
@@ef6406 In one area, they had an entire mobile home park get swept away by mudslides so it's very possible.
Massively irresponsible people spreading rumors like this with zero proof other than, "I read it on the internet".

The families who have missing loved ones need closure, and these magnificent dogs can provide that. I hope and pray that cadaver dogs are brought in from other municipalities to help in the recovery process because it's so badly needed. Thank you for helping.
There really aren't that many of them. And what a hard job, for both!
Weird thought. All those canines used at 9/11 are gone now. And so are a LOT of first responders due to lung and other cancers from inhaling that cloud!

Its heartbreaking that the 'good news' is finding decomposing bodies to bring closure to this horrific storm 😔😭. I can share a bit of their sorrow, my 27 yo son passed unexpectedly in January this year. Everything gets turned upside down, its way worse for them bc they've lost more than just loved ones 💔. Prayers, $ support and luv from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🕊️.

They have their own families to worry about, and know how they would feel if nobody was out looking for them. A grim job indeed...doesn't get any worse than that. Imagine finding waterlogged bodies after several days of heat. I have no idea how a person can stomach that...RIP to all the victims!
They can stomach it because they choose to put the needs of strangers above their own squeamishness. It’s an emotionally impactful volunteer effort. People who do this have very giving hearts.

Families suffer endlessly when they cannot have their loved ones remains cremated or buried. There is always ways a hope that somehow, someway the relative isn’t dead until you have a body to confirm it.

Thanks to the people doing this extremely difficult job of search and recovery,may you be safe! Also those dogs are amazing, the training they go through is intense and when they don’t find anyone alive, they get depressed, I’m so glad that people will “hide” in the rubble, water or trees so the dogs can find someone alive, it really lifts their spirits & they can keep on searching. Thanks to them all! Bless you and the dogs give them a lot of love too!

Sad that their services are even needed for this situation. People probably thought they would get some rain and some wind thinking thst they would be okay. The flood waters rose quickly with no way out and their homes collapsed on them. Thank you all for having such a grim task to do but you're providing closure for their families. 💔

When my dad was killed in a hurricane they found him 25 miles down the river. It took 5 days. These people should be paid a fortune to do this. Without help families could never put them to rest.
