I asked him if I needed to get the engine rebuilt; he said yes but just looked at me like I was crazy. He says Fords are junk but he keeps asking for her. Ha ha, not gonna happen.

We’ve been original owners since 2001 and I do need to replace the timing tensioners and body mounts. But besides that it’s in very good condition. I also did the torsion twist and shackles to run 32s but I bought 8” wides

Just bought a 2004 and no I didn't get the engine checked out and drove it off and instantly got the chain noise. I had to replace the engine. I had a friend that does that so he got me another motor and checked the chain guide in this one which he replaced before installing thank goodness. The truck runs fine and I do like it now. I wound up costing more than I wanted but hey life goes on.
@@munnday86 well. this one had overe 225k on it and it had some other problems with some major oil leaks. So we decided to go ahead and find another engine. My guy found one that had 100k less miles and runs good. And replacing the back guide assembly I feel ok if the front ever needs it. It's much easier to fix. thanks
I just got my cluster repaired on eBay for $89.99, I did have to pay shipping there and they shipped priority hone. They also replaced all the bulbs. 1 week turnaround
I've had a 2002 4x4 sport trac for 5 years now, 2nd owner and I think it had 240,000 km ( In Alberta) now 290,000 km and only thing to break is the rack steering housing cracked - very weird - picked one up at wreckers for $20 and thats it. She purrs like a kitten and I'm going to baby her cause it is the most practical vehicle for me personally to own. Ford really put some thought into this vehicle and decent quantity overall in my opinion.
I am currently looking at a 2001. I need a work truck for my landscaping company, my only concern is the bed size. Extra bonus i can put the kids in the back though.
I owned this truck for years and the worst part about this truck is easily the torsion suspension. Its unbelievably dangerous to lift and absolutely kills the ride when you do it.
I can't stand that companies even thought plastic thermostat housings was a good idea. Too much heat cycling for such a vital part to be plastic. Bmws are plagued with it from my understanding.
Well, I'm a ford sport track owner as of today. So far, I love it. Can't wait to lift it and get some K02s on it.... Edit: I'm taking to work on the pipline. (I work on engineering crew) just need to fit some 4 foot lathe in that box. Is gunna be perfect

Ok I have a 04 in great condition only thing that drives me nuts is this random buzzing feeling on the gas pedal ONLY don't feel it on the floor just or anywhere else...happens mostly on accelerating and goes away if I let up for a second seems to happen more when it's cold out too...when temps outside are 50 and above it bearly does it ..its very odd how it comes and goes..I've heard other explorers doing this but no one has ever came up with an answer..and ones that have taken the truck to Ford mechanics say it's how they are....get used to it... REALLY!!!!
Also when it has shifted and its cruising it is smooth as silk on highway for as long as u want to go..without any buzz vibration at all..weird..I've owned it for 3 months and its been this way no worse no better put a few thousand miles on it so I guess maybe it is just the way it is ...I've read 2013 and newer explorers have had same issues so I guess it's how they are ...anyone else with this?
So I have experienced the same issue. So there was a TSB on this. So Ford’s fix was to remove/ re-install the throttle cable mounting plastic bracket by turning it in opposite direction and remount your cable. Take note of the how the cable fits in the bracket. I’m saying this because someone may have in the past got this done. I tried it on mine, didn’t really do anything. I feel theaters might be another real fix. Just haven’t got around to looking into it.

@@munnday86 was digging around. Looks like you can front and rear actually. "Lunchbox locker". Would be under $1000 for front and rear lockers if you put them on. Nice ! Some people say just keep the limited slip on the rear if that's what you have and then just add the Aussie Locker on the front so that you keep drivability and it doesn't act weird in the rain.

I’m looking into one too. So far from what I’ve seen and read/watched 2008-2010 are the best with a 4.6L V8. The v6 uses a 5 speed auto and the v8 uses a 6 speed auto which allows for very little difference in fuel economy between the 4.0 and 4.6. 2008+ saw revamps of head issues caused by spark plugs and the v8 also does not have a timing tensioner on the back of the engine that the 4.0 has which can be problematic and expensive to fix. These are just things I’ve heard and found so far so I’m sure other people have their reasons for decision making but hopefully that helps.

I got tired of the 4.0 sohc engine. That Motor is straight trash . I ended swapping in a 5.0 OHV with a 4R70W and used a BW4406 Eshift with TOD. The wiring is a pain in the A$$. Evey year is slightly different. Made me want to commit crimes doing that part . Everything else is LITERALLY DROP IN . It'll piss you off so bad ! Everything literally bolts right in place..the 5.0 with explorer mounts and the 4r70w bolts right into the cross member and mounts line up and the 4406 slides in with a room to spare. You'll insane reliability going that route and the same mpg. Seriously wtf !

Fixed my hood strut issue with two bolts, a steel square plate and a hood stand from a 98 Jeep Cherokee.
You could have just got new hood struts they are like $12 and super easy to install

Mine has has chain rattle for over 7 years. Still running great. Just makes some nose at about 2k rpms.

I'd say it's unlikely. Mostly because of airbags not being compatible.
Just had to replace original frame with new powder coated one. What should I protect everything else with as an undercoating? Fluid film?

I just got an 01 Sport Trac. The 4x4 won’t engage and the light won’t turn on. Anybody have this issue? I read it could be the switch module?
It could also be on the other end with the “motor” that is attached to the transfer case. Not sure how to test it though
Since I’ve got an 07, a lot of parts and mods you have don’t work for me. Do you know any websites or channels I could look to?
I wish I had a 2nd gen to do some upgrades. Sorry I haven't seem many youtubers that do constant upgrades to there 2nd gens. I will keep an eye out.

Body mount bushings or maybe a ball joint
Yes bushings are bad
Put some at-205 on the bushings and let it sit overnight

I have a 2002 4x4 but the 4x4 doesn’t work when I turn it to 4 low I hear something but the light doesn’t come on and it doesn’t go into 4 low
