    As a retired Air Force fighter pilot, one of the first things you learn in an emergency is to clear the large lump in your throat. That's your sphincter and you can't talk with it blocking your vocal cords. At that point, you analyze the situation and take appropriate action. Tammy Jo did a magnificent job at every phase of the emergency.

    This pilot comes to the school where I teach to interact with our students. It is a program from Southwest Airlines called the "Adopt a Pilot Program". She taught my students how she uses math daily in her day-to-day work. She also brought all this cool equipment from her time as a US Navy aggressor pilot. Her nephew is one of my math students. Really cool to have had this hero in my classroom.

      really me I have known Tammy Jo since I was a toddler. Used to go to her house with my mom because Tammy had a son my age and my mother and her would have play dates. I guarantee, there’s no way, whatsoever, this was a hoax. That’s absolute absurd of you to believe such ridiculousness.

    You could hear the Captain's voice change a little when she reported that "there's a hole, and someone went out...". Up to that point, she probably didn't know yet that people were hurt, and you can hear it in her voice.
    Great job by all involved, and may they all find peace.

    • @davidjose2193
      @davidjose2193 6 років тому +19

      DrumJedi ...yes I caught the tone in her voice change as she apparently learned of the injury or death of a passenger on her watch (and in her care)...although totally not the crews fault. May time and peer support bring her restored spirit. She did her job professionally and faithfully to all passengers, crew, company...and the industry.

      There must be parts missing from the audio, as ATC exclaimed the same sentence back to her, about there being a part of the plane missing and someone went out, likely to make sure he heard correctly, then he realised she must be in shock and said not to worry, we will figure it all out when you land

Unfortunately, in spite of aid being rendered by her fellow passengers and cabin staff, she did not make it. I found out that she was from ABQ and a community leader there. Sad passing.... :-(

      Hmmm, she's piloting an aircraft with an unknown amount of damage, an undetermined degree of injury and one engine out. So, as she has to communicate these facts to the ground while dealing with crosstalk from other approaching aircraft she firmly requests a single frequency. You have a low threshold for "bitchy."

    Something I really noticed was how the other pilots on the frequency were very very fast and compliant in getting their holding patterns, as they knew that SWA was having a very very bad day. Everyone in this country needs to love and respect pilots and crew, as we should probably act more like them in our daily lives on the ground. Weather it be driving courteously, saying good afternoon/thank you to someone, and most importantly remaining calm and collected as we go throughout our days. Job well done to the crew and passengers of SWA 1380, sorry about the unlucky loss of a fellow passenger.

We don't ever get to look over the shoulder of firefighters, law enforcement or the military in action doing the very hardest parts of their jobs.
    Audio like this gives us just the barest glimpse of what is involved in saving the lives of so many by the professionals who are, after all, just doing the same job they do everyday; keeping track of the small details that make all the difference when things go wrong.

    My Favourite part of this clip has to be 1:30 in where she adds 'good day' before switching to Philly airspace.... Her planes falling apart yet she has the grace, decorum and absolute confidence in landing the plane as if it's just another landing, Amazing!

      Nova Dusty i thought he was annoying. Maybe its because im british i expect them to do the jobs with a bit less attitude

    • @molai1961
      @molai1961 6 років тому

      LochVids : Annoying may not be the best descriptive to use in such a situation. The conversations have to be precise and correct. Therefore, it would be a bit difficult to put in as much passion in them as everyone wants. The bottomline is that they all did a great job to get the plane down with as less injuries as possible.
      I am not British but I was British trained. Hope you do not find my comments annoying. Have a nice day.

    If the pilots of SWA 1380 are reading the comments, I commend you on an excellent job. There are many haters and many Monday morning quarterbacks out there. Don’t pay attention to them. This is when the training you receive kicked in. All those hours in a simulator practicing for an event like this one or one that was similar. Congrats again. As for the passenger that lost her life, my heart felt condolences to her family.
