- Today I am sharing with you all my horrible situation after 2nd hand shopping for baby clothes. I got them home and they smelled heavily of detergent and cigarette smoke. Watch to see how I successfully got the smell out and salvaged all the clothes I had bought.

Hey! I live at home with my dad who is a smoker. The best way to get the smoke completely out is Oxy Clean. I use it on the carpets, clothes, everything. It's the Purple Oxy Clean. So what you do is you mix some pretty easy ingredients. Just do hot water in the tub with a Ajax Dish Soap and Oxy Clean. It pulls everything right out.

Putting a little bit of baking soda in with your clothes and then putting vinegar in where you put bleach works wonders when you have a funky smell or a film of detergent left on clothes. I always do it and never had a problem 👍🏻

I have mad crazy anxiety and depression from the smoke smell. My parents smoke I the house I recently got my mom to stop but my dad still does it. I'm tired of people telling me I smell like smoke and that stuff. It's literally the only cause for my anxiety please help.

So after washing them, does that take the nicotine residue out? I would also be considered with 3rd hand smoke.
Ugh this is the worst I buy and resell on eBay and I usually have good luck but on three occasions the items smelled like smoke bad! I could not the the odor out of one pair of boots after a week of them being in a bag covered in baking soda. The sweater came out fine just in the wash but the last pair of boots are ugg and I don’t want to return but there’s a slight cigarette odor so what about boots??

About how much baking powder and vinegar would you put in a washing machine load of clothes?

I came to UA-cam because one of my sweet neighbor's is a bad smoker and she has COPD.
She gave me a sack of beautiful nightgowns well I have asthma bad and I can't be around any kind of cigarette smoke or smoke period.
I love the gowns but need the cigarette smoke to be gone so I can wash them and start wearing them.
Your channel was the first one I clicked on for help so thank you I will definitely try this method hopefully it works.
Because one time she gave me a sack of cute tops I kid you not I washed them 8 times and I still couldn't get that cigarette smoke ok of them, so I just gave them to Goodwill..
This comment is old, but yeah, I just washed my son's shirt that has been at a smoker's house for a while and I have already washed it 5+ times. Soaked it. Put vinegar in the rinse, and the smell will NOT go away. I am about to just give up and get rid of it. I have soaked it in detergent, some water with vinegar, dish soap, oxy clean. I swear nothing is working. I could try an all night soak, but even that might not work. ☹️

Can I use white wine vinegar instead?
I just bought a carseat from Facebook marketplace. It looked good and I stuck it straight in the trunk cuz it was freezing and I was trying to get in the car. But as soon as I brought it in I realized it REEKED of cigarettes! I washed everything in detergent and it still smelled. I feel so bummed like I wasted $50! But I now have them soaking in baking soda and vinegar and I'm praying it works

My dad smokes cigs and I have to smell like it every day so basically get a big grocery bag to fit your outfit for school, I recommend doing this the night before school and basically fill the bag with clothes up with odor blaster arm and hammer, they’re like $4. Now people tell me I smell like laundry detergent instead of cigs

Someone gave me some clothes and they smell really bad of cigarette smoke. So I'm going to try this.
Yes with vinegar and baking soda you can pretty much get even fungus out of your clothes and the smell of fungus or like when you leave your clothes in the washer and forget about them for a couple days I'm sure this happened everybody at once in their life and that awful smell that you think doing my clothes are ruined no just pour half a cup of vinegar half a cup of baking soda into your washer with your clothes and even a half a cup of your laundry detergent and it will do the job I swear the only thing is you can hang dry them because as the dryer I don't know why the smell will form like they have to be dry you know you have to try them in the dryer that's at least my experience with them

Super terrible environment that my two nieces live in.. their grandpa smokes in their home with them multiple times a day, since they were born. It breaks my heart.

My neighbor just gave me some baby clothes. They reek of cigarette smoke. I came here to find out how to fix that. I tell you, that smell is not doing me wonders with my preggo nose, so I hope the smell comes out soon.

Did you boil water to use? Or did you use your bath water?
You never want boiling water when you're using a lot of vinegar. Because if the vinegar evaporates, it can irritate your lungs. Hot water from the tap is sufficient.

A friend of mine opened a bottle of poppers ( amyl nitrate ) and that smell stayed on my clothes , bedsheets , etc . I’ve tripled washed them , the smell won’t go away , I’m so frustrated , would this help ? Any tips ? 🤔😩

I was given some clothes that I am greatful for but they reeked like smoke and were filthy. I had to wash them 3 times with vinegar and baking soda and each time I washed them I let them soak all day. I would be so embarrassed to give someone clothes like that but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Just so everyone is aware, baking soda and vinegar actually cancel each other out when used together.
Yeah, I was thinking that you should use them separately. Maybe vinegar in the soak and baking soda in the wash machine.

Vinegar neutralises backing soda. Use one or the other not both.
