Hello there! I’m an OG player that used those super long text guides back in the day to attempt to figure all this KOTOR I and II stuff out. Now I’m diving back in after a long time away and your vids are helping me remember stuff I definitely forgot and learn a few things for the first time. May the Force be with you. Always.
A very informative video indeed. I would add the fact that the combination of Scoundrel/Guardian may take advantage of the Scoundrel's Sneak Attack and the Guardian's Force Jump for staggering amounts of damage at the start of combat, without using any disablers. Simply position yourself at a distance where Force Jump may be applied, then attack your target. The game considers your opponent unaware, thus allowing your Sneak Attack bonus. We're talking about one-shot battles from Dantoooine all the way to the Star Forge!
I paused your video at 1:20 to write this: No matter what, thank you, for not just blaring out numbers at me, but for providing a framework through how I could see the game as a first time player. I'm 25, and I've wanted this game since I was a tiny tot. I never got to really sit down with it, and only briefly begun either KOTR 1 or KOTR 2 at family or family friends' houses. I got both games plus republic commando (none of which I have ever finished), for the may the 4th sale, and Im extremely excited.
I subbed as a thanks for the effort given into this video and etc, but ended up using an amalgamation of yours and other yt channels' guides on character creation, while still needing to consult multiple different online sources to find out what I'm looking at as a first timer. Nothing against you, your content, or your channel, I appreciate your help on my journey to experiencing this finely aged game lol
To serial reply to myself, I think this whole process would have been a lot smoother if there were separate guides for k1 and k2 (as somebody who hasn't played either for more than a few minutes as a time like 8 years ago)
I found that if you give intelligence & Charisma at 14 with soilder you have enough to pass your persuade checks after Taris and you can complete your HK repair storyline. I've noticed most ppl like to do scout/guardian to easily pass both persaude and HK (plus the free Implant & Flurry) but I noticed that you actually lose alittle bit of your damage output & you're noticably weaker because the soilder has the natural progression as tank/dps. My preference is str 17, dex, 8, con, 8, Intel, 14, wis, 13, charisma, 14. Charisma & Wisdom are interchangeable depending on your preference but I prefer Charisma at 14 & wis at 13 because you get a +5 to wis having a total of 18 later on (19 is no benefit). The main reason dex & con are low is that a soilder has a natural defense and health at 9 which isn't that bad when you consider the points put into both dex & con for the other roles. The dexterity is the only real concern but because soilder can get the best armor it compensates for the low defense and points spent. The point is counter balance by slightly favoring areas where the soilder is the weakest.
One thing I think people tend to forget is that you can save skill points. Really helpful in Kotor 1 when you pick scout or soldier. Have int at least at 14, and when you level into a Jedi, you should have enough to max out persuade (the most important skill in both games imo). Kotor 2 I typically go with a dex build and go 8 str and use the finesse feats. Also skills are way more important in 2 than one. I think that feats are better rp wise in one than skills in two, I think it’s the other way around.
Can we *get* the secret sauce on how to make the damage numbers above people’s heads as big as possible? If you want I could easily provide you with as much info as possible in that regard.
On a serious note though, I'll consider it someday, but I prefer making videos to help new people which that wouldn't really do, and I prefer people play RPGs their own way, and last, but not least, that super doesn't sound fun to me because that's not how I want to play KOTOR haha. I also recognize that making that video would probably get like 1 million dislikes because it would only attract the super hardcore min-maxers who would just yell and scream and tell me how stupid I am 🙃
So, content creators can still see number of dislikes even though viewers cannot. I can't speak for other content creators, but the dislike to like ratio still drives how I evaluate my content, the type of content I create, as well as its value to you guys.
Picked up kotor again but on the switch really enjoyed this remastered style video compared your previous ones, love the more graphics ex: pro/con, feats etc. Will be looking out for more guides once the remake releases!
I have to share with you that learning how to Fake Level up is key to stealing feats and force powers. Essential for a Darkside build. I'm playing a new game at the moment and at level 4 I already have master Empathy and Master Gearheads. I'll finish the game by obtaining at least one feat every level. Also when you fake level up you can select intelligence points until you need to select wisdom for your actual level.
I remember waaay back in the day, playing the original KOTOR game on PC. While I can’t remember every detail of my first build, this is what I do remember. My character’s name was Barucas and he was a Scout that reached level 8 and level 12 as a Jedi Guardian. I chose the dark side ending on my first play through. I can’t remember what attribute distribution was nor my skills, although at the very least I remember having Repair and Treat Injury. My feats were a bit all over the place. I had Empathy, Flurry, Two Weapon Fighting and Duelling (I know, what was I thinking lol) and Toughness. Now obviously I didn’t max all of them, but I think toughness, Flurry and TWF were feats that I did max out. In terms of Force powers I remember having the Throw Lightsaber power (purely for RP purposes), Choke, Master Speed, Death Field, Force Storm and Dominate Mind. I remember running around on Dantooine the moment a double bladed lightsaber became available to me and replacing the red crystal with a blue one. By the end of the game I was using two standard lightsabers in my final fight against Malak, whom I was able to defeat on my first attempt. Master Speed + Master Flurry + Master Two Weapon Fighting = an unstoppable dervish of destruction
Awesome video! Really good reference for new players. I would like to suggest that you never select 18 starting strength in Kotor 1; 17 Strength will achieve the maximum possible modifier, and the -1 Attack/Damage in the very early game is mostly inconsequential, only affecting Taris really. We have access to Valor II (+3) at level 9 or 10. EDIT: Valor should be selected by the main character if you want it to be available for the most difficult encounter, same reasoning as you applied to Force Breach
I disagree a with the Scoundrel Atributte points. I think that Scoundrel -> Guardian should be a finesse build. STR-8/10 DEX-18/16 INT/WIS/CON/CHA --> your choice As Scoundrel you are low in HP so you will have to depend more on your defense and therefore on your DEX. Your damage should come from Sneak Attack in that case -1 damage from STR is irrelevant. And as Guardian you will lack force points to lose in failed stun/fear attempts so you should focus more on boosting your self or use force plague (CD 100) before try to stun/fear the target for the sneak attack. But As you say this is a roleplay game and anything is fine.
My final build in Kotor with a 5/15 scoundrel/guardian is not a min/max power build, but I think roleplays a fairly accurate to canon and is a powerful force user who is good with lightsaber and has the +3 strength for light side mastery Str 14(19) Dex 15 (16) Con 14 Int 10 Wis 18 (28) Cha 12 Max Duelling Max Critical Strike Max Toughness Max Jedi Defence I feat left over I suggest conditioning Lightsabre with heart of the guardian with solari and opila crystals with CNS strength enhancer belt +2 str +2 to saves Karakan gauntlets +1 dex +3 to saves Star forge robes +5 wisdom +2 to saves Circlet of Saresh +5 wisdom I agree with his force powers as Stasis line should be the only offensive power a guardian needs as getting the stun on your opponents is critical to this build

There are times when you are by yourself and you really want Security (just as an example) to open lockers full of needed loot. Or you’re stuck with party members that don’t have the one skill class you need.
@@GamingYourOwnWay I’ve found your Guardian, Sentinel and Consular videos very helpful as I’m replaying KOTOR 2 but I keep finding myself debating whether I should cross class or keep going.

Hi! is it possible to do a lightsaber guide? (probably need to split KOTOR 1 and 2). things like Duelist vs Dual Wield (twin swords or double blade) and which stats do what
Use duelling with critical strike as I prefer getting the hits on enemies with a chance to stun. The Two weapon fighting/flurry line maybe cool but against bosses that are hard to hit you'll find many of your hits missing unless you've got a very high strength
Hey love the guides you post for kotor. I’ve never played the game myself so I tried picking it up but whenever I play the game it always seems like I run out of ways to heal my people and I can’t progress through the story anymore is there something I’m missing or do you have any tips to help me out so I can keep progressing through the story?
Have Kreia set to Jedi Support instead of Aggressive and let her heal. Also try to fight enemies individually if you can instead of charging in and fighting a whole group. Also focus your whole party on taking down one opponent at a time. A big part of healing is not getting hit in the first place.
💩 man I put feats into conditioning because I thought it would make it harder for enemies to attack me 😑 luckily that's the only feat I made an error on.
So I am not sure if I want to go Scout or Soldier. I know I want persuade and repair to fix HK. I know scout doesn’t have persuade as a class skill but I assume I can just put 2 points in it and still have 2 points for class skills every level? Does soldier get any skill points at all? Like can they even get persuade you didn’t specify persuade being a non class skill as a negative so I assume it is a class skill?
I'm not a fan of going to 18 on any stat for any reason. The attribute point cost is just too high to get that marginally higher modifier. Staying at 16 (or heaven forbid 14) allows you to have a much more balanced character and the marginal loss of modifier is not going to make that big of a difference.
that kinda doesn't make sense because scoundrel is the only class that can skip investment into intellect, while other classes struggle without both treat injury and persuade and need 14 int for it. Scoundrel gets 3 skill points with just 8 intellect, while soldier wont get 2 if he has less than 14. So playing scoundrel gives you luxury to leave intellect at 8 and invest extra points into other atributes. While soldier really becomes moron if he has less than 14 intelect and have to go either treat injury or persuade. So making 8 int soldier or 14 int scoundrel is just 2 extremes.
0:26 this isn't a hard set guide. Your statement of 8 int scoundrel is predicated on the idea that someone playing as a scoundrel doesn't care about all of their class skills and my 8 int soldier is predicated upon the idea that if you're playing soldier, you probably don't so much about skills and just want to hit things really hard. At the end of the day, people should do what fits their playstyle, if you want a soldier that can have two skill points per level, that's awesome, but you shouldn't tell people their opinions don't make sense when they do, they just don't vibe with what you think.
@@GamingYourOwnWay I do understand, I love skill based gameplay aswell. However scoundrel is the only class I would recommend for going without intellect at all if you want combat focus, because other classes suffer way more when playing with 8, especially a soldier. For combat build I also would recommend skipping int on any class class, but scoundrel still gets persuade and treat injury if he goes 8 int, so it is not as big sacrifice as in case of other classes. So my point is scoundrel is more suited for combat build than any other class, which is not that apparent if we think of it. Apropos skill vibe, my last play was with 18+ int and sniper shot on scoundrel/consular, impossible diff
I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, I'm saying don't say others' opinions don't make sense. Just say, "I build my character this way for this reason" and call it a day.
@@GamingYourOwnWay What I ment was it doesn't make sense to reccomend non-combat scoundrel as opposed to 8 int warrior. But i get you reccomed it for roleplay style. Cool. My question is when you finally will play Kotor 1 impossible, since I'm waiting almost year now lol :p
Oh man its been a while since I've done any KOTOR. Uh, isn't WIS more if you wanna damage with force powers, while CHA is more for buffing/healing force powers? By that logic I'd go for a Soldier with 10/14 WIS/CHA for more potent buffs. Then again, you have party members who can do the buffing, but its useful for self heal and defense. Other thing: When being a Jedi you aren't really using armor. This means dexterity is more important to increase your AC. With toughness improving HP/DR per point invested, it might be better to take 14/12 DEX/CON for higher AC + buffs for being harder to hit while doing more damage and take the less HP outcome. Unless you DO want to be an armor wearing Jedi, and I'm not even sure if that's viable because you can't really do anything.
The WIS and CHA modifiers both factor in to both force power damage and the amount of vitality healed by heal/cure/etc. WIS/CHA do not affect the powers that provide buffs such as Valor, Energy Resistance, etc., those buffs are static. For the DEX vs CON, I guess people can do what they want, a +1 to defense at the end-game isn't really going to make a difference, but +1 vitality per level would make a bigger difference is how I see it.
I have a Jedi Guardian in the Mandalorian Assault Armor, and I just beat the game again 20 minutes ago. Plus I didn’t even have to use my H.O.G. lightsaber that much during the StarForge mission. As a matter of fact I switched between 3 of my favorite weapons until finally sticking with my violet lightsaber out of the 3 which was stronger. I have Heal, Kill, Force Wave, and Horror. Which is more than enough for the tank I made. I always enjoy a good Heavy-armored Jedi and this one is my Best Beast so I can do plenty😎
As I watch this, I'm finding the allusions to KOTOR 2 a bit distracting. I wish this video just focused on KOTOR 1. I think tips and comments on KOTOR 2 should be in a video for KOTOR 2. Each time you talk about KOTOR 2, I keep hearing "This isn't information that's going to help you in THIS game. So, try not to remember it."
I appreciate the respectful feedback. I won't be dishonest and tell you that in the future I'm going to start breaking out build guides into two different videos, one for kotor 1 and one for kotor 2, because that would double the number of hours I'd spend working on videos for them both to have about 90% overlap, but I will take it into consideration and see if I can better format my videos to allocate all of the kotor 1 vs 2 content into one portion to make it easier to navigate.
Again hears my problem these builds are viable for about 95 % of the game if u cant heal urself and ur relying on force powers I dont understand because malak just saves everything... i dont know what ive done wrong but he literally saves ..EVERYTHING

@@GamingYourOwnWay Besides, don't take comments too personally. Are we going to talk about the game or your feelings ?
I prefer scout to guardian in Kotor 1
Remake the sentinel :D
I'll put it on the to-do list haha
Again hears my problem these builds are viable for about 95 % of the game if u cant heal urself and ur relying on force powers
I dont understand because malak just saves everything... i dont know what ive done wrong but he literally saves ..EVERYTHING
Not everything I force-choked him in the end.
What about skills?
I usually just stick to the class skills, but honestly just pick what sounds fun to you, there's no "right" answer for skills.
