In this video I demonstrate the sleight of hand technique known as the center deal or middle deal. I also talk about it’s uses (or lack thereof) in card cheating and card magic.
NOTE:
This is NOT meant to be an instructional video on how to cheat at cards or on how to protect yourself from cheating. Don't watch this video and then try this stuff in a game or think you can’t be cheated. I make these videos for entertainment so that people can more deeply appreciate the craft and the art of sleight-of-hand. If you find this stuff interesting, go check out the work of people like Steve Forte, Jason England, Richard Turner, Darwin Ortiz, and Jason Ladanye. If you want to learn how to protect yourself at the card table, check out “Casino Game Protection,” “Poker Protection,” and “Gambling Protection Series” by Steve Forte and “Gambling Scams” by Darwin Ortiz.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
There's some fascinating history behind the center deal that I didn't go into in this video. I will probably cover that in a future video series. The maneuvers that nullify the cut are known as "shifts" and "hops." I didn't have time to go into any detail in this video. Marked cards are far more complex as a subject than I allude to, but there just wasn't time.
CREDITS:
I learned the center deal from Jason England’s DVD Foundations Volume 1. I have made some slight modifications for my hands, but the technique is more or less the same as what he teaches. I also learned the bottom deal and second deal from his videos (and from The Expert at the Card Table by S.W. Erdnase. If this stuff interests you, check out “Gambling Sleight of Hand” Volumes 1 and 2 by Steve Forte - they’re incredible. The double duke is inspired by Guy Hollingsworth’s “A Gambling Routine” published in “Drawing Room Deceptions,” Darwin Ortiz’s “The Ultimate Cardshark” published in “Darwin Ortiz at the Card Table,” and Andrew Wimhurst’s routines “The Wimhurst Poker Deal” and “The Return of the Ultimate Cardshark” published in “Down Under Deals.” The control to the bottom used is Ernest Earick's one-handed convincing control published in "By Forces Unseen." The explanations about the rationale behind the center deal, why it’s fascinating, why it’s useless, etc. is inspired by the work of Dai Vernon, Ricky Jay, Richard Turner, and Darwin Ortiz. Special thanks to my friend Mr. Z for additional guidance and information.
Special thanks to Darwin Ortiz and Ed Kwon for some background theory and constant inspiration.

Well done Mr daniel. I have a question, is there a way to deal cards from multiple locations from the deck not from the same place from the center????
@@ziadashraf2394 yup! :)
@@DanielRoyMagic I have found that the best explanation of the center deal is in the Ross Bertrum book, Magic and Methods of Ross Bertrum. Dai Vernon posed for the photographs in this book. Again, "The Classics" And magicians saying something is useless is an old doge, to keep other magicians from Doing the move. T. Nelson Downs, and Louis Zegoni (see expert Card Technique, I think I spelled his last name wrong) (who I saw old movie footage of doing the center deal on a glass top table) Thanks to Jay Marshall, with Jack Pyle Chicago's Punch deck pro. They all considered the center deal one of the most useful of the dirty deals when used for magic.
L
You know it's happening but you still can't see it, he does it so smoothly. Just brilliant.
I even slowed to .25 and still couldn’t see it
I agree with both of these comments, literally slowed to 0.25 and couldn't even see it taken from the bottom or middle, genuinely mind blowing.
You should see Turner do it. It's even more ridiculous
@@jintarokensei3308 whos turner?
@@focuswithcham6190 I think he means Richard Turner. He's a fully blind magician who does amazing gambling routines.
He is incredibly slick but that said, for his age- Daniel is actually insaneeeeee
This dude is literally on such a different level from most other people demonstrating stuff like this one UA-cam. Absolutely deserves Ramsay level subscription numbers.
It's great you showed us the hanger outtake. Not only does it show you are human, some of the best magicians are defined by how they deal with and play off their mistakes.
I was sort of debating including it or not, but it was just too funny to leave out...oops lol
Till i see the hanger i believe the center deal are a myth.. i always think the cards secretly controlled to the bottom or to the top for bottom or second deals..
@@thabigchief glad my hilarious error could dispel the mystery for you! :)
@@DanielRoyMagic I don't trust you :-) I think the hanger was misdirection to distract from the fact that you did a bottom deal all the time.
@@philipp-boettcher-hps bro he literally flipped the cards face up to show you that he was dealing from the center what are you talking about lmao.
Love the blooper. "This is where you'd get shot" 😂
*Red dead redemption intensifies*

This may be my favorite video of yours yet. The combination of skill, history, philosophy behind perfecting a craft, and editing, just makes for an immensely entertaining video. I hope to see much more of this!
I watched quite a few card tricks videos out there but yours are by far - and I mean BY FAR - the most informative. The fact that you break down your actions into small chunks really helps with understanding what's going on. Keep up the good work! :)
Your technique is seamless, I can tell you've spent hours working on it. What I'm most impressed with is your ability to hold your break through all that. There are several times you move the deck where I can't tell how you're repositioning and not losing it. You're explanations are spot on as well. I hadn't considered the uses until you started talking about them. All around a great job, thank you!
Ricky Jay and his 52 Assistants is one of my favorite magic shows, you really capture his flair and skill! Love these videos.
i really like that fact that you included a blooper.
super dexterity
amazing rythum
infact you almost showed all main false deals in just one video
well done Daniel
That is amazing man, so smoothly looks like everything’s off the top
Your skills with cards is absolutely amazing!! Thanks for the very entertaining videos.
You are the best man! Keep the videos coming
Super Video Daniel. All good wishes to you!
Damn bro, you are SO GOOD! Tbh I NEVER saw anyone do the center deal SOOOOOOOO smoothly!!! Keep up the good work man
very good center deal. And I think you're spot on with those hours commited to your craft. Focus is a superpower, and working on that, what is better than slight of hand 🙂
Your wizardry is freaking me out man lol. that control you pulled, putting the card on the bottom from the center is f-ing AWESOME. thanks for the great content, I'm enjoying it.
First let me say that I love your work. Watch all your videos. This is one of my favs. The mistake at the end is gold. Please keep up the amazing videos.
Awesome chops bro!!! Thank you!!!
I have been doing card sleights for my entire life. On a very basic level. Never done a show, aside from a few very patient and kind friends. It's been a while since I've picked up a deck though. Life and all. But this guy is really inspiring. "Thanks" from a fumbling fella.
Love the hangar error. Thanks for keeping that in.
You can hear a difference in sound when he deals a card from the top versus a card from the center.
I came to the comment section just to say that. Beat me to it
Pretty much unavoidable since you've got the card rubbing on both sides rather than just the bottom.
True. But this is in "a vacuum" so to speak. If you were in a card game setting, just normal background noise would mask that.
I am at a loss for words regarding your skill. Kudos to you, Sir!
-Marvin
Again. Excellent technique and production.
I cannot see how you do it, but I could hear the difference, with the speakers turned up fully and no other sounds............. you're safe my friend. Bravo.
I really like that you left the oopise on this one. I'm wondering how often, if ever, something like this has happened live and if it does are you able to recover and hide it quickly enough?
Generally I’m more focused in a live show and that also do moves a tad more forcefully to ensure I don’t miss.
So much talent. You've almost perfected the craft.
Awesome, awesome stuff!
The only way I can "see" The difference is in the sound of the centre deal at the end of the video.
Subscribed! 👍🏻
you are the Slight Of Hand ! Awesome !
Very good teaching. Thanks for sharing this.
I love this channel.👍
That control at 5:32 was so clean I couldn't even see it at slowest speed!
Nice one my friend very interesting thank you for sharing
very clean and smooth
Love it this is great
This was mesmorizing. You do it so effortlessly
I found you today!!! And love your professionalism man!!! Keep it going. I just subscribed and liked the video!!!
Awesome, thank you!
Great technique Daniel!
There is a pretty significant sound difference from when you center deal vs top deal. But still very impressive, love your videos.
Just great on every level.
It's good to see a young magician with so much dedication to the craft. I was privileged to see Richard Turner incorporate the Centre Deal into a routine at Blackpool a few years ago. Keep up the good work.
7:46 this where the Mr. Roy get shot. But I'm pretty sure he can trick the bullet with another deal😅
That is a SUPER clean center. Well done.
Thanks You So Much BRO 😎
I love the demonstration which is educational but done without exposing the technique. Just awesome! Question: are you using the Marlo step center deal?
Dude, keep going and you're going to be as good as Richard.
This dude needs to collaborate with Richard turner
your shoulder looks better I can see .. its good to see U my friend
So clean.
I'm glad i subbed you
Just Amazing 👏👏🎩
Thanks sir.
Do you think in upcoming videos, you will upload a toturial on bottom deal?
Muy buen contenido amigo! Saludos!
I've watched these deals in slow motion and I still can't see it! Just incredible!
I see you Daniel, you have changed a lot since the Harry Potter franchise
He's still a wizard though
You are a true master :o
you are really good :)
This is magic and art on a high level
Just beautiful.
Unreal. This is "hush-hush within the magic community" good
Can u do a tutorial on the 10 levels of sleight of hand plz. I have to get my friends to stop playing cards with me
If you need a tutorial for that, i'm really sorry for you but you have to improve a lot to being able to perform that
There is no other way to say this, but what you do is true magic. Magical even. Knowing the technique is one thing. Doing it is another. And no matter if I know it or not, your presentation still brings out the magic.
idk but my intuition is telling me to say this, forgive me if I am wrong.
I have a feeling you think you will be a forever student, but one day you will come to realize that you are the master you seek.
anyway, ur a genius. keep on keeping on! :D
Wtf that looks sooo clean 🤯🤯🤯
lol even the mistake at the end looked floorless and cool oooops he says :)
Dude I found you just a couple days ago and you're like a not dark Daniel madison, I'm lost for words
Absolutely smooth! Any chances of you putting out a tutorial on how to second deal?
Maybe. It would probably take me an hour or more to properly explain, and I think there are already sources that explain it better than I possibly could. I'd recommend Expert at the Card Table, Jason England's Foundations Volumes 1 and 2, Steve Forte's Gambling Protection Series, and if you're super dedicated, Steve Forte's new series of books.
If you want jason england's secon deals dm me @poshfer on ig
@@rop1352 sure!
@@tabletalkmagic9604 dm me @poshfer on instagram if you want
5:34 what move are you doing here, bc wow. That is such a clean control.
Daniel Roy and Richard Turner... 2 greats!..... and Richard does it blind!!
One of the best I've ever seen. I know the mechanics but couldn't do it right
Great!
That hanger was the by far, the best move.
Amazing but there is a different sound when he deals the card before the king each time. (I think) ahhh very interesting. The sound was made when he WAS dealing the kings. He hadn't dealt them to himself. Still absolutely brilliant.
So good
Can you please show us the move on the center deal where you control the card to the bottom please?
Best magician on UA-cam
absolutely mad impressive skills. this is also the narc from polar express
this guy is a genius, he had mastered the logic of magic and the reality
Please do more bloopers 😃
I just found out i wasnt subscribed, it felt like i was betraying u. Ur the man, keep up with the amazing content
Darn, you are good
I wanna learn this move!
Where can I find a Tutorial??
Can you teach?
You are awesome! Love your job!! Where can i learn how to do the center deal? I usually do the second and bottom deal for my tricks but i would like to level up.
Thank you!!
I learned it from Jason England's Foundations Volume 1 and from Steve Forte's Gambling Protection Series. Mostly, it was a lot of experimentation and practice, because you have to adapt the technique to your own hands.
If you want i have jason englands center deal dm me @poshfer on ig
This guy is an absolute legend
can you please do tutorial videos? you speak in an easy but direct way to follow.
"Caught a hanger, Sarge!"
At the last demonstration, it actually has a different sound when you deal from the center. I don't know if it's even possible to avoid that(?) Nonetheless, you have an impressive sleight of hand.
Very nice and silky Sir❣️♠️♣️♦️
can oyu show us how you do these sleight of hand tricks?
Richard Turner is the GOAT. you are extremely skilled. One thing he says to spot a cheat, how much hands movement dealing. RT does all that without the back n forth hand motion. dealer is moving the cards= problem. Hand must stay in one place. No Vegas dealer is allowed to deal that way.
5:10 perfect
What interests me most about card magic is how many manipulations you can do with them and the therapy it provides me. Watching your level of expertise is so encouraging!
What would be your book/intro of choice in one interested in card magic artistry?
Probably card college or royal road. New video about this coming soon!
@@DanielRoyMagic sweet
You are the next Ricky Jay !!!!
I remember in fourth grade me and my friends used to play yugioh and I always had my best card on top of my deck I would keep my thumb on the best card then I would pull four cards which one of those cards was my best card
Even at the slowest playback i can't notice,.. too smooth
hi... we used to play lucky 9 somewhere around... maybe you have something about this game pls
love you
Extraordinary demonstrations as you are slight of hand magician can you also show some mentalism card tricks
Me impressed by center deal well actually i controlled the card to the bottom and did a bottom deal me impressed intensify
I like trick magic card. Thanks
