There seems to be a lot of dislike for what Travis does. I think he's brilliant. Yes, he keeps it simple much of the time. In my opinion, that does not make him a bad drummer, rather, it demonstrates tasteful musicality. Also, Travis actually is incredible. Check out his hand technique during his warm up, instructional, or snare solo videos. I wish I had fluid hand motions similar to his. He hits the drums obnoxiously hard, yes. So what? You think he doesn't realize that his style of hitting the drums like a madman appeals to millions of impressionable kids? He knows what he's doing. It's brilliant, and he can play some very complex things, but instead he chooses beats and rhythms that are easy for people to "get." Maybe that's why he's so successful, who knows...but before you knock on him and his ability, or try to say what his motives are when you clearly don't have a clue, why don't you go make yourself a multimillionaire who wholeheartedly loves what they do.
I can't wait to get my new kit and cymbals next month!! 4 piece PDP concept series, 14" a custom mastersound hi hats, 17" a custom projection crash, 21" a sweet brilliant ride and a 19" a custom crash.
i'm a drummer and i like his playing. he wants to play drums loud, so who the fuck are we to judge. Remember, art is the way of expressing one's feelings and nature. He's hyper and high energy he wants to play like that. And actually i wish i could play at that volume and speed, but i think i'll simply die after first three songs. It's very easy to disrespect someone for being different and not like the others (in this case by others i mean rest of the drumming elite according to level or recognition). It's harder to grasp something useful and useful experience exists in every situation. Think positive guys and some day you will get there too.
Haha, I was just thinking about leaving a comment like "most overrated drummer in rock" or some shit like that. Then I read your comment and was like...bah, I guess it's all a matter of perspective (as is the case with most things in life, really). I'm not into TB's style of playing...however, I remember that I used to like him when I was younger. I also used to hit real hard and I've only starting playing differently a couple of years ago. So to hell with talking shit...no need for trollin' ;-)
guys, seriously, who cares if he doesnt know what his cymbals are off of the top of his head. he is an awesome drummer. most people here think that memorizing your kit is more important than actually being able to use it. i can understand some of the other reasons that people dont like barker because of, but the whole cymbal thing is stupid
I have a Travis Barker OCDP drum kit but made a few changes to it. Including, an Evan 360 snare head, a double kick pedal for the bass drum, and Zildjian K dark cymbals for my crashes, ride, and high hats. Edit: and removed the Chinaboy and splash cymbals
it's basically like scat and beatboxing on the drums. it's just making the bass drum as much of the beat as the toms or snare. try hitting the bass drum, tom, then snare, then bass, then snare, then floor, and repeat. it's a really good warm up and if you start slow and speed up gradually it helps alot with speed. he adds a couple of beats to it, as well as the rack tom, but that's it's just a different variation of the technique.
Sounds like he's alternating right and left followed by a bass drum hit. Something like RL Kick LR Kick RL Kick LR Kick. He just puts the LR or RL on various drums. Finished it out with a normal straight forward RLRL fill. I don't know if that makes sense or not. I'm not a technical wizard.
he actually only has 1 rack tom.....in a standard drum set there are 2, i think megashams question was why doesnt he use both rack toms as well as his floor tom, snare, bass, and timble?
If any of that makes sense but like I said playing a blink song on guitar is fairly easy the hardest one I can play is what's my age again? And it's only the intro that's difficult but even Tom had trouble playing it at first
I'm not a drummer so I can't really talk but I do play guitar and I play a lot of blink and if the entire band plays each instrument with some kind of sameness I guess that's what you would call it? Anyway if Travis plays drums like Tom plays guitar then it's not that difficult to learn how to play like Travis
I agree with you on the making it part, but travis barker isn't basic. He has quite a few complex beats and fills, just looking at his warm up /watch?v=sA3W8UbL2Ls there is no way you could ever call that basic
@@damionchrist he looks kinda tall when he sits down on a kit. Standing up, yeah he ain't that tall. I think he just looks tall when sitting down coz he's kinda lanky
His cymbals are flat because its his style. Its also my atyle and thousands of others. Why is tommy lee's bass drum so big? Why is buddy rich's snare so angeled? Why is joey jordison so uncreative? The questions never end buddy you can question every artist for many things.
since it seems he has NO idea what he's talking about.... his cymbals ARE; 14" A New Beat Hats (brilliant), 10" A Custom Splash, 18" A Custom Crash (possibly a projection), 21" A Sweet Ride (brilliant), 21" K Crash/Ride (brilliant), AND an 18" Oriental China/Trash...... there ya go
I mean sure the dudes got chops, but there isn't really much more to him than that. Also, it's frustrating how he angles everything on his kit straight up.
i hate it when drummers dont even know what they have...especially when its like 3 things lol is it that hard to memorize...i memorized my kit and its like 3 times that
First off all those arent his drums there the replicas that u can buy for only like 699$ Thay arrent custom, there factory drums that are based on his kit. Secondly just cuz he doesnt know what kinda china boy he has doesnt mean he has no talent on the drum kit. And third its not like he was gonna play a thousand beats to show off the kit,he played the drums in this video for like 25seconds....Why wouldnt stick to one beat when hes already showing off each part of the kit in that one.its no solo

🙏🙏preach
Travis inspired me to play drums ive been playing for almost 20 yrs
@Carter Morris thanks buddy he still lives on within me. He's my 👼
Inspired by Travis and drumming for that long? You definitely gotta be crazy at the drums lol
"As long as its big, and it says Zildjian on it, I'm alright with it." 😂😂

oh, and he keeps his cymbals like that because thats how he feels comfortable playing. everyone has different styles
Sulove Tripathee Well said, man! Travis is a great drummer!! Fuck all the haters..

"If it's big and it says Zildjian on it its good"
Bent* not big
I'd kill for another Box Car Racer album.

I think it 's triplets starting with R hand on the snare and then divided over toms and snare. Kick is used one beats one and three...
That's an oriental china. Most likely 18".
Tony Cuccia correct
god i wish i could get his tone. i love the toms how deep they are and the new snare soud is nice not so high pitched as the old days
*BREAKING NEWS* - Foo Fighters have announced that Blink182 drummer *Travis Barker* has replaced the late Taylor Hawkins.
"as long as it's big and says zildjian on it i'm good" - Travis
Nice, very nice, The best drumers
I want that set
tparent182 me too, just with different drum sizes
I play like that because it's how I'm comfortable, it depends on your style, the way you play.
he's. so cute, Travis! !
What size is his left crash?
And his right crash?
Thanks
Thanks! :D
I feel the rack tom placement is so uncomfortable. Requires lifting your body to make contact. Seems inefficient.
To be honest i love it i've had my rack tom In many different possitions and this is most preferable to me
he actually only has 1 rack tom.....in a standard drum set there are 2, i think megashams question was why doesnt he use both rack toms as well as his floor tom, snare, bass, and timble?
So these Orange County drums that he's playing here don't look the original (imo) they look like guitar centres version???
What size is his port hole on the bass drum??? (Adams song kit if anyone knows)
If any of that makes sense but like I said playing a blink song on guitar is fairly easy the hardest one I can play is what's my age again? And it's only the intro that's difficult but even Tom had trouble playing it at first
IT IS LIKE A TRIPLET ITS PATTERN IS L R F R L F BACK AND FORTH
Well said and thanks. :) That is exactly what I meant.
Sick beat
of course...
it's an oriental china, 18" i guess. it belongs to the FX series.
Who can explain to me how Travis does that fill at the end of the video? With both arms and kick.
What’s the deal with TB and the same 8th note beat into the 16th note fills every time I see fool playing an off the cuff riff!!???!?!???
As long as he can play.
he changes a lot
I'm not a drummer so I can't really talk but I do play guitar and I play a lot of blink and if the entire band plays each instrument with some kind of sameness I guess that's what you would call it? GreenArrow734 lmao man I know it's been five years but blink songs are extremely hard on drums
@@muggedmuffin9867 No I wouldn't say they are difficult. If you know a bit about the drums, you can get into the songs quickly.
as long as it's *bent*
I agree with you on the making it part, but travis barker isn't basic. He has quite a few complex beats and fills, just looking at his warm up /watch?v=sA3W8UbL2Ls there is no way you could ever call that basic
The reason why Travis has his hats set up high is because he's quite tall. Here, the hats setup looks kinda lower than how he usually has them
CR7TheGunner - At a whopping 5’8” tall!?
@@damionchrist he looks kinda tall when he sits down on a kit. Standing up, yeah he ain't that tall. I think he just looks tall when sitting down coz he's kinda lanky
his hats actually dont look that tall i think he just sawed off the top
Ended up selling out
Nice Men
hes very good at making what hes doing look hard
20 & 18 i think
you can't bash Jordison on a Travis video
@littletravis1 same man but i think this is way out of my reach, good luck though :)
Finally aged 44 he does seem to have mastered the drum basics which is that the drummer is accompaniment to the music.
0:26 DAT bASS
It's fairly simple stuff, played with a very high tempo and a bit too much enthusiasm
Dan Pollard enthusiasm is good, u depressed piece of shit
His cymbals are flat because its his style. Its also my atyle and thousands of others. Why is tommy lee's bass drum so big? Why is buddy rich's snare so angeled? Why is joey jordison so uncreative? The questions never end buddy you can question every artist for many things.
when your as good as he is, you dont really care
since it seems he has NO idea what he's talking about.... his cymbals ARE; 14" A New Beat Hats (brilliant), 10" A Custom Splash, 18" A Custom Crash (possibly a projection), 21" A Sweet Ride (brilliant), 21" K Crash/Ride (brilliant), AND an 18" Oriental China/Trash...... there ya go
Lol all the nay sayers ... playing drums in their sheds
Haha wow 8 months. whatever. People who judge other peoples music based on the fact of their popularity pisses me off.
I mean sure the dudes got chops, but there isn't really much more to him than that. Also, it's frustrating how he angles everything on his kit straight up.
If he likes to angle everything that way, than so be it. It's his damn kit he can do what he wants.
MrGamerBoy Exactly. You adjust the drums to you.
Yes exactly. :D
i hate it when drummers dont even know what they have...especially when its like 3 things lol is it that hard to memorize...i memorized my kit and its like 3 times that
Travis doesn't even know his cymbals lololol
I would like to see you play as well as travis does. Your just jealous because he made it and you wont
You would think he would be better if one of his influences was Buddy Rich...
Not king...long**
that's not a china boy -.-
First off all those arent his drums there the replicas that u can buy for only like 699$ Thay arrent custom, there factory drums that are based on his kit. I wonder if he managed to figure out he stinx by now =\
Am I the only one that cant take this video seriously?
why are his cymbals flat like that wtf???
Josh Gomez why are yours all crooked like a disabled kid?
you really don't need to overact travis.
Has his own style, but really doesn't employ ANY dynamics into his playing. Can he play something subtle?
i hate his style of play, but damn he plays what he want very good
Travis is proof that you don't need talent or intellect to become popular..
+Joe Cap you are a fool.
+Joe Cap drumming is a talent, isnt it?
Umm so you're saying that Travis isn't talented?
said the intelectual and talented...
Very bad!!
