  • Dune 2 - Paul Kills the Baron
In "Dune: Part Two," the epic narrative of Paul Atreides continues as he aligns with Chani and the Fremen in a quest for vengeance against those who devastated his family. Torn between his profound love for Chani and the daunting destiny that awaits the universe, Paul is driven to avert a catastrophic future that only he has the foresight to see.

When a Commander gives an order to an Officer, they are telling them to get the job done with their unit. Not the officer is to do it solo (unless specified). It's not like a General tells a Colonel to destroy the enemy in an area, they expect the Col. to do it by themselves.

One thing that the movies didn't quite portray is just how much background scheming was going on.
Basically all factions involved wanted/ needed the Baron Dead anyway, even more so as they are the Emperors bodyguards and only really care about protecting him.
Also this entire scene was changed from the books to give Paul (or better Muad'Dib) a more "Heroic" role by putting the baron down like a wild animal, compared to the books, where its not even Paul that kills the Baron, and he is a lot more dignified.

i find the emperor's role to be irrelevant from the start of the story both in the book and this adaptation.. he was the last direct descendant of house corrino, the last male bloodline.. i don't recall reading succession plans in the book, but i just assumed he has yet to plan it thinking he still has years on the throne.. he was old in the book but his appearance is that of a man in his prime.. i understand the casting, he couldn't be portrayed in the movie as having a younger appearance, just like alia, it would require additonal shooting scenes that are unnecessary to the plot.. but i didn't find him to be weak, he was much like duke leto, stern, calculating, thoughtful but arrogant, more respected by those around him rather than feared unlike the baron..

And it was better that way too. A precocious dusty desert urchin who wasn't even old enough for kindergarten shows up, and manages to bring down the baron without much effort. Being killed by a small child was a humiliation that the baron never even thought possible. It's worse than if Paul had killed him with a dagger like in the movie. And why didn't they show how Paul taught the Fremen how to use a Bene Geserit form of attack called the "weirding way," that utilized a type of human resonanance frequency to destroy an opponent. This film makes it look like the Fremen just woke up one day and said, "Let's go kick some Sardukar ass today!" - the galaxy's most formidable fighting force. The "resonance frequency" was just put in for the 80s adaptation, it was never in the books. The weirding way is basically just "Space Kung Fu", nerve strikes, perfect breaking kicks, and the sort. So this version is more true to the material in that aspect ... I'm a big fan of series' where the main character does what Paul did, in basically taking over the world. I know he's not recognized by the other houses, but fact of the matter is - he's conquered the world, essentially. Very seldom do you see the protagonist actually succeed in doing this. Usually these types of niche's are more common in anime, and again, they very seldom succeed. I haven't read the books, but I know there's more story, and I know that Paul didn't ultimately succeed, in conquering the world, but for the time being he did.

The the Duneiverse, shielding is ubiquitous, and 'guns' do not work against them. The only way to penetrate the shield is with a slow moving object...hence why everyone is using knifes and swords. When they fight, they swing fast, then slow themselves down to bypass the shield and get the killing blow via stabbing. Additionally, the reason the Fremen were able to easily defeat the Sardaukar is because the use of shielding on Arrakis drives the worms into a killing frenzy, and lasguns have unintended cataclysmic results from interaction with the spice. They are used to fighting without shields, where the Sardaukar are not.
