As far as anime, my favourite series ever is Cowboy Bebop. You said you like sci-fi and comedy, so you should love it, I would think (it isn’t a comedy, but it is often very funny).
If you end up checking it out, make sure to get the movie also. It fits in the timeline at about two thirds of the way through the series.
I also second the Ghost in the Shell recommendation another commenter made. Those movies are fairly essential when it comes to anime sci-fi, and do have some similar themes to what it sound as though this Terminator series is about.

I’ll definitely check out Cowboy Bebop as well as Ghost in the Shell someday. My first exposure to the CBB anime was constantly hearing people dunk on the Netflix Live Action adaptation when it came out a few years back.

@WeAreFilmStash I personally couldn't get into CBB even though a bunch of the Guyver 89-91 dub actors were in it, but those that bash it along with any of the other Live Action movies clearly haven't seen MAtLA Adaptations at their worst. There was a time 1991s Live Action The Guyver was considered the worst, then it was Fist of the North Star, then a toss between Dragon Ball Evolution and Speed Racer. But quite frankly it's easier to turn a Live Action adaptation of an IP into an anime than an Anime into a Live Action.

I want to recommend for animes two of my top favorites:
    The Guyver
    - Guyver Out of Control (1986)
    - The Guyver: Bio Booster Armor (Original 12 part series that ran from 1989-1991)
    - The Guyver (1991s Live Action movie with Mark Hammill in it & the first American Live action adaptation of an anime if Im not mistaken)
    - Guyver: Dark Hero ( 1994s direct to VHS sequel to the first Live Action movie with David Hayter in it)
    - Guyver: The Bio-Boosted Armor (2005 and most accurate representation of the manga to date, with the author authorizing or making some of the changes to the story)
And here is a huge suggestion if you liked Terminator Zero: I recommend watching Ghost in the Shell-anything and everything, including the Live-Action movie and Stand Alone Complex 2045.
    - Ghost in the Shell 1995
    - Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence
    - Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (Season 1), 2nd Gig (season 2) Solid State Society (animated movie)
    - Ghost in the Shell Arise and The New Movie (which has a passing of the torch with in one of the scenes wont say were though)
    - Ghost in the Shell 2017 - Live Action
Netflix's Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2045 (I would recommend you watch SAC/2ndGig/SSS first before watching this series)
I do like others like Witchblade, Elfen Lied, Marvel's Blace, Gundam 08th MS Team, Battle Angel, and a few more. But as a whole Guyver and Ghost in the Shell are my top 2.

Thank you for the recommendations, I’ll definitely look into the Guyver series for sure! I know for people who like anime this could be a point of contention against me, but I own the Ghost in the Shell anime in 4K, but have only seen the live action one with Scarlet Johansson, I bought the 4K LOOOOONG after viewing the remake. I didn’t think it was a bad movie by any means, but definitely understand how people got upset over the race swap of The Major.

@WeAreFilmStash Most welcome! And I wouldn't consider it a point of contention if you use the lie action Golhost in the Shell as a starting point to the series. I was introduced to Guyver with the live action movies first then the animes
