The apartments that I do maintenance for just installed those tub spouts and shower heads that you mentioned that you have in all 232 units. We did it about three to four months ago and also changed all the toilets out for low-flow toilets at the same time
I have a shower set up that was ripped out by the construction crew years back, and to my recent discovery, they poured something down the drain. I really wanted to convert it back to a shower, but now the call gets interesting.
Nice job. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. A video suggestion for you- converting a sunken shower to a bath tube that is level with the bathroom floor.
Roger, That's all fine and dandy, But in Reality there are floor joists in a well constructed Home, not just open like you showed us. Thanks for the Tips.
In New Jersey you can have 1-1/2" shower drain as long as the shower has only has one shower head up to a certain gallons per minute... .... I would definitely upsize the drain to 2"
Careful when adding things like multiple body sprays, rainfall shower heads, and other such amenities to a shower or tub faucet install. Need to make sure that your existing water pipes feeding the faucet are adequately sized to handles the additional water outlets. Undersized pipes can lead to water pressure issues with the shower or tub faucet itself or other surrounding fixtures using that same water pipe system.
I always put a 2” trap and then Bush out of the top of the trap for a tub. It may be overkill but that’s how I learned so that’s how I do it. It would also make this conversion much easier.
Rodger I have a question. I was thinking of converting to a shower. So I live in a condo and on the first floor there are 4 units. If there ever is a sewer backup it backs up into out tubs. It happened once in the ten years I lived here and they all filled about 3 inches. Do you know if is any products that after you take a shower you can close off the drain preventing the backup into the shower? Thanks

One question that I have asked him and never got an answer from him is why did it take you many years to get your license? He said he has been in the plumbing trade for 40 years but looking at his license number, he's been certified for only a few years.
Hold your tape square with the tub. You can loose a quarter inch like that. May not be critical for the drain. But the faucet would be really noticeable. But yeah, hes legit
If I'm not mistaking the 2021 upc code now allows you to use a 2"x 1 1/2" no hub from the 1 1/2" to tie onto the 2" to the shower if you're not able to remove the 1 1/2" per phcc

How is this teaching anything? You tied it into a vent stack. Ok cool. How does this help someone actually remodeling a bathroom? Shouldn't you teach about no-hub bands at least? How is the person trying to learn from this video going to learn how to tie into the actual sewer line AND the vent stack. What if it's just a sewer line and the vent stack is somewhere else? Should the person learning be concerned? I like you. I like your videos. But c'mon man. Think of the audience this video is aimed at.
@@waltercortese9946 ....That's not at all what I said. I said "what if it's just a sewer line and the vent stack is somewhere else" as in the vent stack isn't visible with the tub removed because it happens to be behind the toilet. Shouldn't the person trying to learn from this be aware of this possibility to avoid worry or confusion of why their tub seemingly doesn't have a vent stack? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand what I was saying.
Your first comment you said he tied into a vent stack. Then you said what if it was a sewer line and the vent stack was behind the toilet. Sounds like you are a bit confused. I guess you have never heard of wet venting. Maybe the homeowner needs to remove Sheetrock and follow the pipe until it goes through the roof, is that what you are saying? Perhaps you could make your own video and share it since you don’t think this one is good enough.
If the tub has no vent line in the wall then you need make one on the trunk line that's running from the shower drain to the sewer line and then once the vent for the tub is ran inside the wall you gotta run it over head and tie it into the closest vent line and you have to use 2inch tee's for this and remember air goes up so make sure the fittings are flipped backwards and make sure you dont use a tee on its back its not code and to tie into the sewer you have too grab a wye depends on your sewer line size could be 3 or 4inch wye maybe a wye combo so you'll need a 4x2 wye combo or 3x2 wye combo like i said depends on your sewer size and you mentioned no hub bands so I'm guessing your sewer line is cast iron if it is you'll need a 5/16ths bit you can use it on a impact driver or they even sell torque wrenches that come torque specs w 60lbs of torque

Interesting, in Canada we have 1.5" shower drains. Logically a shower receives less water than a bath tub. But hey, Code is Code. Good video.
It varies from municipality. Here in PA, we can use 1.5 on the shower as well, up to a certain GPM. Then it's sized accordingly.
In NC our code requires 2” for shower, because Showers don’t have overflows.
