Thanks as usual for all the love on my videos the past months! If you don't wanna miss the Technique Fundamentals I mentioned in the video (and all my other courses), be sure to check out www.playwithaplan.com 🧖♂❤
The fastest way to improve is to have clear goals, defined paths to those goals, and the discipline to stick to it.
YES. I think surprisingly many doesn't focus enough on those things. (I've even created a video on exactly this: ua-cam.com/video/QdjjhRV7zCs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=SimenOtnes )
@@Simenotnes Human nature to seek the easy path. We have to battle ourselves as much as the guitar. Excellent video and outstanding instruction on your part. Keep it up. Guitar community needs competent and reliable instructors.
@@ag3nt_green Wise words. And thanks, appreciate that a lot!
A Guthrie Govan soundbite from a few months ago “if you sound good when you’re practising you’re not practising the right stuff”
Wise words from a very wise man 🎸
I do a LOT of technique work, so there’s a great deal of sheer muscle-memory I can rely on. But what I DON’T do very often - at least on guitar - is to push myself out of my comfort zone, to play in that 20% zone you talked about. So that’s what I’ll be working on for the next few months.
Good stuff! 💪
I've unintentionally tried that last one before and it did work. I just noticed that I could play it better the next day after thinking about it while I was falling asleep
Love that!
Great video. I think your bringing some important ideas of learning how to learn and how this can translate to guitar. These skills can be applied to anything in life. This is also gives context to guitar players like myself who get frustrated with progress.
Cheers! And yes absolutely, these can be used for guitar or anything in life, so it's powerful stuff!
You Go Simon! 😎💪🏻✨
Cheers Pedro! 😄😎
IF you're a very experienced player it's def good to get/Stay out of your comfort zone. For beginners, you have to build a comfort zone before you can get out of it.
Yes, I also think that's true. The beginner phase is more about getting the reps in and building muscle memory.
4. Muscle Memory.. only way I can see improvement in my technique when train same very small pattern switching between different positions and going back to the primary one.. not just doing it over and over in a single position.. I guess it gives the muscles and brain constant flow of surprise and challenge.. more wide room for development of a single micromovement.. can't explain, but I'm curious what science says about it..
Don't know about the science behind what you're explaining, but I'll say if it works for you, then that's what matters! I personally think it's good with some variation anyway
My real struggle is remembering all the songs and licks i learn
Have your tried number 2 and 3 in this video? It takes up quite a lot of mental energy, but it works incredibly well (at least it does for me)
@@Simenotnes yeah I tried it out yesterday and today so hopefully that helps. I mean I don't mind playing all my stuff from written notation but sometimes your in situations with a guitar where you can't pull out your sheet music books lol 😆
@@FionaMisty True that!
Hey man, I would absolutely love if you made a lesson for that section of music you always play in your intro. Also on how to get that really full, rich and atmospheric tone
Noted, will considering doing that! And for the tone, I actually have a quite detailed video about that already: ua-cam.com/video/FKPXr5xCV90/v-deo.html&ab_channel=SimenOtnes
👍🏽
😎
I get unbelievable frustrated and can't play slow and totally no nothing about reading music. So it's not worth my time
Do you see yourself as a beginner? If so, I think the most important thing is to get in the reps and play as much as possible. That is to train your muscle memory as I talk about in the video. In other words, it will be hard in the beginning and you have to focus a lot. Eventually, it will be more automatic.
