My son and i use to buy 2 pizzas every payday and drive them to a overpass in Detroit and give them to the homeless there. Ever since our son died 3 years ago I haven't had the strength to do this. Seeing this video...i think I will start again. I miss you son.

Love Richard Gere and this wonderful woman who stopped to help! It hurts my heart that there was only ONE person to reach out to help him all day in NYC - and it was Karine, visiting from somewhere else. We can learn so much from her! We need more people like her in the world.

Lunkis then you’re not walking by hundreds of them on your way to work. People look away because it’s too much pain to see - can’t take them all home - can’t give all your money - so they are homeless and you feel helpless every time you walk the city. I’ve supported the regulars for years and then everyone who hung out with me at work started helping them to. It was good to see others handing over cash or food or smokes if they were scrounging. One man turned me down every day I offered until I insisted. He was surfing the ground and garbages and spoke no English - eventually he just gave in and accepted my help.

We’re supposed to give as unto our Lord & you never know, it could be angels that we’re offering help to & not even be aware of it!! We’ve had some come to our door hungry, thirsty & dirty & we never turn them away. Nowadays, people are scared of the virus, being robbed or worse, or that they want money for drugs, alcohol etc. We ask God to lead, guide & direct us & He does. One thing is true most people ignore the homeless do they don't have to feell guilty!!!! We are brother's keepers. We have so much and all we to do is keep it and not share. In Vegas a man approach me because he was hungry. He wanted me to go the restaurant with him and pay for the food. Instead I went in my pocket and gave him twenty dollars and he thanked me. My spouse wanted to know why I gave him so much and gave me a lecture on the possibilities of what he could do with money to which I replied I could not let anyone go hungry but whatever he does with money was up to him!!!! It isn't only New York, saw the same things in small cities in the US, as well as larger towns.
The simple reality of life is, in the US, millions are a few paychecks at best away from being homeless themselves. I learned that one out the hard way. No jobs available where we were, nothing nearby, money and unemployment ran out, out of luck.
Just as everything was ready to completely fail, including shelters, my "Obama phone" (wait, isn't now a "Trump phone" now?) rang to schedule a phone interview, then offer letter and finally accepted offer. Tax check money paid most of our move back to my home state, family the rest and a few days after arriving, I started my job.
Went home, to hotel, to streets, to shelter, to hotel and to on the road to be homeless for a few days of the new job until an advance got me money for a hotel and everything went uphill from there.

That was a very kind thing to do, giving away the rest of her pizza. In most places where homeless people display signs (usually cardboard) they're hoping for cash & in a good day can make $50 or more. Unfortunately the ones "flying a sign" use the money for drugs & or alcohol so gift cards to fast food restaurants or food from anywhere if you want to help.

Its not that people don't want to give. Its who do they give to? You can walk by 4 or 5 "homeless" people in a single city block here in Vancouver so how do you choose? There's also the fact that there are a lot of scammers out there pretending to be homeless and people are becoming more aware of that.

Give to shelters that feed them. Also they will love you more if you bring meals to the shelter rather than give them money on the streets. This is from a man who used to be homeless and stayed at the shelters. Also heres another tip: when they have signs that say, "will work for food," or fly any kind signs asking for help, offer to buy them food not money. You'll find many will turn you down. They dont need food they just need beer money. They have a resource for food if they turn down an offer of food. Those who accept the food are really just looking for help to survive.

When I lived in Hollywood, there was a `homeless` guy that would occasionally sit on the back stairs of the Hughes Market. All the drivers in Mercedes sports cars would pause to wave at him. He would smile and wave back. I finally decided to pause, and I got a close look at Kirk Douglass. He is a truly compulsive actor. Welcome to Hollywood, where the best and the worst of us start at the same bottom, and live next door to each other. Some of us don`t forget the lesson.

I live in Houston, Texas and what Karine did is something I frequently do when I go out to eat. If/when I go out to eat and I have leftovers, I find a homeless person to give them to no matter how badly I thought/think I want to or may want to eat them later. I hate wasting food. When I worked downtown, I would buy an extra portion just to give to a homeless person. I met a homeless man once who got mad at me because I tried to give him some money so he could get what he needed. I never did that to him again. I would see him around sometimes and give him food instead. I was confused at that encounter at first, but I did innerstand eventually. He was a nice man and since then I often wonder what became of him. I hope he is well. That was about 20 years ago and he seemed to be an older man then. I would also cross paths with a homeless woman when I was in high school. She would frequently spend time near the bus stop I took to go home. When I saw her she would ask for change, oftentimes while she had a bag of single beers hanging from her arm. Even though she did this, if I had change from my daily hustle, I would bless her with something despite knowing that she spent it on beer. I feel like once that money leaves your hand it is no longer yours and you have no control over how someone spends it. Not your business anyway, people get what they need regardless of whether you help or not. I'm in my 40s now and often think about those two people specifically despite them both crossing my path some 20 to 30 years ago. I say help the homeless when you can, you never know when or if you could end up where they are.

@@jameelakhan2036 I think it's basically because they are preaching a sermon to appeal to people's sense of humanity. Personally I think it's fine to help someone in need if you have the means, but a lot of us who are accused of being so uncaring are only one paycheck away from being homeless ourselves. Sure, there's a lot of people out there who could help someone who's destitute, but there's also many of us who simply can't.

I used to live in Houston and was homeless for years. Stayed in a shelter twice. Once right after having a baby and losing her to cps custody and another time with my 1 year old son. I have lived under bridges, in a tent in the woods, I've eaten out of dumpster pandhandled. I know what it's like to be homeless and I wouldn't wish that on anyone else

The amount of food the grocery stores, restaurants, and families throw away is disgusting and wasteful..When they can give the food to a food bank or to a place that feeds the homeless or poor everyday..People need to get their heads out of their butts and start caring about one another..To much is given, much is expected..
To much is given, much is expected, the Lord our God didn’t give you all that money to keep it for yourself, you are suppose to help others.... No one should be hungry in America, but I know a lot of children would starve if that didn’t go to school The free breakfast and lunch is like going to the most expensive restaurant...When you know better you do more..Some rich ppl are cheap as they are rich
