They're here in Southern Ohio. They "Yip" at night, especially in winter. Packs of them. And yes, I've seen tracks! They WILL come after your pets. Lights in your yard usually deter them but not always. Keep your pets safe.

@@WolfRaged You know they can snatch a pet even if you're out there with them? Coyotes are NOT that timid. If you think that, think again. They will come up on a porch when you're on it and grab a cat. It's a meal for them!

I grew up in south central Nebraska in the ‘60’s/‘70’s. Coyotes were a threat to the cattle so they were a bounty animal. In the middle of winter you’d see pickup trucks full of frozen coyotes. Problem solved (and, yes, the pets were safe).

I’m in North Eastern Ohio and behind me is 24 acres. I hear them howling back there all the time. Ten minutes South of Akron. We’ve had sightings of black bear in the Cuyahoga Valley as well. Keep an eye out y’all! Had three coyotes try to surround me and my American bulldog in Connecticut when I lived out there. If you see one, there’s more waiting for them to lure your animal into the woods

About two years ago I was walking north on Avondale ave about to approach W Rich st in franklinton and a coyote was walking east on rich st right in front of me. It looked confident as if it was on a mission and didn’t even pay me any mind even as I was about 20 feet from it. Lol

Unless you have a dog that will come to you immediately on command, keep your dogs on a leash, regardless of how big your dog is.
Dogs are social creatures and many will rush to check out (greet) coyotes as they look like dogs. If they've never seen one, they won't be afraid and will head towards the coyote to "sniff" and play.
If your dog is small, that could be fatal. A bigger dog might end up with serious bites, and the diseases bites spread - like rabies, distemper and parvo. You could end up with expensive vet bills
Unless you're near the den, coyotes are unlikely to come too close to people - leashes help with that too.
A family's dog was killed by a coyote. He only wanted to play.

You shouldn’t let your cats run wild. If you have small dogs, be outside with them. Hawks will grab them too. Black vultures will definitely grab domestic animals.
Coyotes have been forced to give up their natural habitats.

I had a stare down with one in the middle of the creek and it got up on the side and started barking like a dog

Met a guy in SE Ohio a couple of years ago who popped a LOT of them, had carcasses all over the place. I was glad it was very cold, so no smell and no flies.it wasquite a sight.
