Great thing about Bruckner are his scherzos in every symphony they are brilliant such drive and musicality
Exactly, i love all parts of all the symphonies, but the scherzi are on another whole level
This stunning performance/interpretation is nothing short of a revelation. This work needs to be heard much more.
Grazie
The Scherzo is utterly brilliant !
What surprises me about Bruckner the organist - composer is the exquisite detail he gave to dynamic changes. He always has such subtle cresc. and desc.
This is what fascinates me the most about his music
I hadn't heard this before, but immediately recognized it as Bruckner. Remarkable how much it resembles his mature symphonies.
The more I hear Bruckner, the more I like his music.
great composer and thank to conducter
Paavo Jarvi and the Frankfurt Sinfonieorchester revealed to me the magnificent depth of beauty of Bruckner's early symphonies. Thank you!
Bruckner’s music is truly divine, as it moves us strongly to our most intimate sensibility. It is a sublime work to be listened to carefully, because his music can on be appreciated, in my opinion, to its fullest extent, through progressive learning. After this period it is of unforgettable beauty and a true genial masterpiece. The orchestra performance and direction are sublime. Viva Bruckner’s music and this remarkable recording
Bless you, noble soul.
The quality of the audio, the image and the filter used in the video editing were wonderful! Without counting the quality of the music ...
Everything this orchestra does is just first rate. I hope the music lovers of Frankfurt appreciate what a wonderful orchestra they have.
Beautiful symphony ❤
So many talented composers lived from 1650 -1950. Its beyond crazy. That 300 years. Starting with Bach and ending with Strawinski
Or Shostakovich?
What about Rautavaara?
@@harryhagan5937 Indeed, Shostakovich was arguably the last of the great composers and died in 1975.

I keep coming back to this piece and this performance; Magnificent;)
Thank you:
Peace and Much Groove
Outstanding performance! I really enjoy the quicker, lighter approach to Bruckner that Jarvi and the fabulous Frankfurt orchestra bring. The scherzo and trio are so nicely done!
The first movement does feel somewhat rushed though. There isn't much space for expression
Bravooo Pavoo Jarbi, bravooo la gran orquesta bravoo Anton Bruckner por tan sublime sinfonía ❤.
An intense, exciting performance, cleanly articulated with superbly tight ensemble playing and fabulous soloists. I didn't expect to be blown away by Maestro Järvi's way with this music, but I was, and thank you, Maestro!
Sublime music; I always wonder how a man so simple, shy, reserved, exaggeratedly modest could write so powerful a music, so profound, that in so many steps it is almost extraterrestrial, or as a You Tube amateur said"intergalactic", I would say deeply mystical. He repeated in his symphonies whole bars almost to dissect them, sometimes even obsessively, in a very strong and sincere desire for perfection till arriving to an absolute expression beyond which there are no more words, but only intimate communion with God and with one's conscience, with one's own experience and past, in preparation of the final passing and farewell to this life. Thanks Master Bruckner. Grazie Maestro Bruckner, many greetings from the very beautiful baroque town of Lecce in Southern Italy.
A very beautiful town indeed, which has a very nice classical music festival.
This is one of the most fascinating (quick) descriptions of Bruckner’s music! I’m profoundly happy to see people so much in love with his out-of-this-world symphonies🙏🏼
One of the great Bruckner performances. This is such a great symphony but rarely performed. For example there has never been a prom performance!
Järvi is truly an amazing conductor: nice, fresh, focused.....
YES YES YES
:) I Agree;)
Danke.
In jeder Hinsicht hervorragend! Outstanding in every way!
Initially, I didn't expect much from Jarvi in this repertoire, but I really enjoyed the brisk tempo, the Trio's portamentos (oddly sentimental for Bruckner, but why not?), and the general quality of play. While retaining Brucknerian majesty, this interpretation was also extremely lively and refreshing. Sincere congratulations.
Maybe if more conductors of Mr Järvi's stature were willing to champion this wonderful work it would be restored to its rightful place in Bruckner's output. I have never heard a finer performance - the adagio is absolutely heavenly - and credit is also due to the audience for a remarkable absence of coughs and other noises.
Magnifique Scherzo !
Not a "study symphony" at all. A solid and underrated masterpiece, quintessentially brucknerian, beautifully performed.
The comfort and wonderfulness of Nullte are irreplaceable , and off the charts
In this orchestra,
all is full of s far superior splendor
A corner of Tokyo of Japan
What a fresh peformance! In trio and finale portamento is so beautiful! Amazing performance.
Sublime!! Outstanding performance indeed!!
Soberbio.
Comfort and solemnity of Bruckner’s symphies are off the charts
The entrance of the finale was so unreal..
Faster, sharper, more dramatically engaging interpretation --- a la Furtwaengler, Järvi knows what needs to be emphasized.
Seems like he really studied this piece to get the best from it. Bruckner can sound terribly ponderous and wooden at times. And needs a special kind of conductor to get the best from this music..
Wonderful.. that 3 rd movement so Prokofiev in flavour
Hervorragende Interpretation. Grüße aus Oberbayern.
Impresionante interpretación . Bravo !!!
Saludos from Madrid.
Not only is the 0 Symphony one of Bruckner's most exciting, but it is so much better constructed and cleverly thought-out than his last 3, which proport to be profound and he, deep down KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!! He sould have spent less time contemplating god and more on his own inner fantasies, like I have, all my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you explain what you mean with better constructed than his last 3?
Great performance! Great Bruckner! Thanks
00:19 I. Allegro
15:19 II. Andante
27:38 III. Scherzo. Presto - Trio. Langsamer und ruhiger
35:59 IV. Finale. Moderato - Allegro vivace
So beautiful...sofisticated!
This is so absolutely gorgeous and: Paavo Rules!
Peace and Much Groove.
-- Vibrante, brillante. --
When you write a piece that draws four minutes of applause from the audience, as well as shouts of "Bravo," you've done something truly amazing. I'd be proud to put a number on it, if I were the composer!
True that!!!
Poor Bruckner. To think this work wasn't worth numbering. If he'd heard this recording, I'm sure he'd have reconsidered.
A pretty splendid performance (with that timpanist (name please) being quite something else).
That scherzo is super fast!
Super!
Love the section 40:45 - 42:00
That Scherzo! WOW!! And I kept thinking I could predict where the main theme was going. I was wrooong!
One thing I've noticed about Bruckner's scherzos: The "trio" section is always slow and seems to have no relation to the rest of the movement.
Yes, the scherzo is what would become "classic" Bruckner😇I really appreciate this performance of a symphony Bruckner apparently charged should be discarded. Paavo Jarvi and the Frankfurt Radio S. O. make the best case for it. Thanks for posting!
Excellent. Some interesting and very effective tempi in the last movement. I spy (I think) Peter-Philipp Staemmler of the Armida Quartett at the front desk of the cellos. But where is Clara?
That is correct! Peter-Philipp Staemmler is the new principal cello at hr-Sinfonieorchester. They have another (excellent!) principal flute, Sebastian Wittiber, in addition to Clara, and they take turns.
I like Järvi's interpretations of Bruckner. I think his brisker tempos make sense. I am not a Celibidache fan, feeling that he is overrated as an authoritative interpreter of B's music. His slower tempos do not compliment Bruckner's already lengthy compositions. I have loved Bruckner's music since the 1950's.
12:18 to 14:00 incredible moment !
impression~!!!
Thanks~()
There should be more "0" Symphonies - if they could be as good as this one.
Anton, in his more lyrical moments, sounds like a post-echo of Schubert.
Paavo bears a vague resemblance to the composer (eerie).
Paavo resembles Putin for sure, but his nose is different.
You obviously have only seen the usual pictures of an old Bruckner...bald head and largish nose. In his younger days you would never recognise him.
A W O N D E R ! ! !
Mooie uitvoering
48:46 One of Järvi's number one fans, the naughty principal bassoonist, shows his appreciation of another fine performance by the maestro at the flower-giving ceremony.
If we ignore 00 and count this one that makes the currently numbered 9th (unfinished) actually the tenth. Just saying.
Bruckner was always trying to teach us to listen to heaven and talk to heaven.
That's as foolish as referring to your imaginary friend in the sky.
Why bruckner never included this in his Canon, I'll never know.. it contains so many "Brucknerisms" but in a far more compact structure..
I'd say its more directly Brucknerian than his symphony no.1. To my ear at least.
Compared to his mature works, the "Nullte" Symphony has some awkward moments, and others that are uninteresting, especially in the finale, but all-in-all it is quite beautiful. The 'andante' is gorgeous with an unpretentious ending, and the 'scherzo' is delightful, with a Rossinian wit. Bruckner's early effort is certainly worthy of occasional performances that are as fine as this one. (Has Jarvi done the "Study Symphony" too, I wonder?)
(Has Jarvi done the "Study Symphony" too, I wonder?)
Yep;)
How many composers have a ' Symphony 0 ' in their forte ? Not many . It's pretty weird...there's also the ' 00 '...which is a ' study symphony ' ....these both have their moments..
That is what happens when composers do weird stuff with their naming conventions. Basically the correct way to name this symphony is to strike the 0 and call it "Symphony in d-minor (The nullified). Because it is actually his second, not counting the Study Symphony that some people call the 00. He wrote it after his first and then decided to withdraw it.
Phewww...what happens at 13:23? That sounds very modern ;)
What a modesty to name a symphonie "der Nullte Sinfonie"......
It was meant to be a practice symphony , but being such a good one ,it just had to get a number ,
The number before 1 is 0 , so that is how this symphony is now known as Symphony No. 0
He must have loved Wagner. It's like he wrote those symphonies that Wagner intended to write but never did
But Bruckner's spirituality was real, and speaks through his music.
Only this Symphony already is better than the whole symphonic cycle of Brahms
Nice attempt at reviving the old musical rivalry. ;)
What kind of snob you are? Listen, Bruckner is one of my favorites, but your sentence makes no sense at all. Maybe you don't understand Brahms and you are pissed off by that. It really makes no sense at all.
Glib comment. And I don't agree. Brahms 4 is one of the all time great symphonies..Not to mention where are Bruckners concerti and plethora of chamber music that Brahms wrote?!
Love Brahms dearly, but can only fully agree. Bruckner is on another level and only finally being appreciated and understood. I think sometimes he did not even understand himself what was pouring out of him.
But where is the main theme?
ahahahaha !! Great inner joke, for those in the know! That's why Bruckner 'nullified' this wonderful work. Thanks for the nod
Jorge Mittelmann ha, glad at least someone got it!
@BryanHo: B may have been put down by that remark, but at least he did not destroy the manuscript. Perhaps his inner wisdom knew better. We are the beneficiaries of that.
Nice reference ;-) Mancini found it and rewrote it as the Peter Gunn theme...

Fot all his alleged religiosity, there's nothing better for irreverent excitement than EARLY Bruckner symphonies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate Bruckner. His music is like a million little sketches he sews together with no idea. It's up, it's down, it's back up, it's back down, you think, aha, this is the peak, then it goes back down and peaks again and again.. There's no point to it. It's all pointless. I was lying down resting, having listened to Bartok's Concerto and this came on. After a few minutes, I realized, "This is fucking Bruckner!" I ran to turn it off and block every other piece of his in the queue.
To each his own- right;)
Love, Laughter, Love
If there is a god. he/she listens to this with divine pleasure!
Directing your rant at this particular Symphony is a rather futile and ludicrous endeavour. Because Bruckner would have agreed with you. That is why he annuled it and banned it from his canon.
@@Quotenwagnerianer My comment applies to all of Bruckner's symphonies.
DEENNY T - Your second sentence about the "million little sketches he sews together" is exactly what makes Bruckner so good. Does he not confirm to your view of what music should be? Tough.
One of my favorite Orchestras, one of my favorite conductors, and one of my favorite composers. Bruckner came to us from another dimension, a dimension where the method of communication is music.
