The nicest, most classy member of VH by far. To speak as kindly as he does about his ex-band mates, even after they knifed him in the back, is incredible. He is also smart and realizes grudges get you nowhere. He made his millions, is still with his high-school sweetheart and still actively tours and is loved and revered by fans-all while retaining his humble attitude and integrity. Michael Anthony is the true success story of Van Halen.
I recommend reading or listening to noel monks biography on van halen. He managed them between 78-84 and he had nothing but great words and respect for Michael Anthony compared to what he had to say about the other members of the band

@@JeremyWhiteShow First seen VH in 1980 at 12 years old... 1984... St Louis... I was 16 and a huge fan of VH.. After the concert, me and a few buddy's jumped in my car and followed the limos to the hotel. I had brought my guitar, a red 1982 Dean Baby Z, to try to get Eddie to sign. Unfortunately, Ed's limo beat us to the hotel but then Michael's limo pulled up to the enterance... I waited there with my guitar and as he walked by I asked him if he'd sign it... He stopped, looked at me, looked at the guitar and said, "Shiiit"... and continued walking... Still a fan..!
I just posted a comment saying essentially the same thing, but I'll say it again here. Michael Anthony has to be the nicest and most normal guy in the music world. It appears as if nothing has ever gone to his head and he has been able to retain normalcy. I respect that. Pure class.
This is too funny. I cannot just NOT say anything. lol The things I'm going to repeat in this rant are things I've read in interviews with John Sykes, Aynsley Dunbar, and Neil Murray, along with other musicians that were playing in bands, that toured with different versions of Whitesnake during 1987-1988. Some of it came straight from Coverdale's own mouth. I'm writing this as a *disclaimer* that it's second hand information*. The last thing i need is Coverdale's greed ramping up and having him send lawyers after me for being a fan and having a rant about what a lot of people already know!! Again, It's all *secondhand info*, but if you're a fan of Whitesnake and paid attention back in '87-'88, its pretty obvious what I'm saying is VERY factual. Here goes:....It is kinda off topic, although it is relevant, to the conversation that you were having with Michael about re-mastering some of the Van Halen catalog. At around the 10:20 minute count, you mentioned David Coverdale was toying with the idea of "re-imagining" lol, some of the old Whitesnake albums? This isn't shocking at all and I'm fairly sure a lot of other people/fans 'in the know', will completely agree. I'd bet Coverdale does "re-imagine" the album "Slide it In", but most of all, the 1987 self titled "Whitesnake" album. He'll probably start with as many of, if not all of John Sykes guitar parts/whole songs "re-structured", "re-written","re-imagined" and just enough where John Sykes doesn't have to be given credit for the songs and therefore, Coverdale will no longer have to pay Sykes any royalties for some, or all of those songs that John wrote on/for those albums. I'll give a good example of how easy a subtle change, can cut an artist completely out of royalties. For those who don't understand this type of greed read this... MTV changed the iconic opening bass line of Megadeth's Peace Sells, but who's buying, by just cutting a beat, or two. MTV used that opening bass riff for MTV music news opening credits, Head Banger's Ball, and they used it for many other things over the years. If you watched MTV back in the late 80's, 90's, up to the early 2000's think about how many times that you heard the Peace Sells bass line? Easily thousands, if you had MTV on as white noise like most people did back then. MTV, because of that simple beat cut, NEVER paid Megadeth one red cent for using that music, all of those years. The really bad thing, because of that drum beat cut, they never legally had to, once they "re-imagined" the bass line and the drum beats! Vanilla Ice did the same thing with "Under Pressure" to create the "Ice Ice Baby" thing lol. I cannot and never will call that a song. I don't know what you'd call it, but it ain't music and it ain't hip hop, I don't care what anybody says. lol Vanilla Ice stole the real music by changing the beat in a sample. Easy as that. We all know what Suge Night did to Vanilla Ice though! Karma's a bitch Ice! Anyway, he took that sample and used it. He never owed David Bowie a dime and "Ice Ice Baby" sold millions of records. Now, back to my original point. The main reason Coverdale would do that to those albums would never be what most bands would be doing it for...themselves and the fans, for him, it would solely be for 'new money' off old material. A lot of people-fans, DO NOT know about-(a lot do know) what I'm going to explain next and they should because Coverdale is a greedy, self-absorbed, arrogant asshole for what he did to that band in 1987, but specifically John Sykes. Here's a PRIME EXAMPLE of Coverdale's greed in action : Coverdale was informed by the Geffen label guys that "Is This Love" was going to be another stand alone hit, for the Whitesnake album. To assure himself that John Sykes wouldn't make anymore money than he was already going to make off of the Whitesnake album, he had Adrian Vandenberg re-record the single for "Is This Love", in it's entirety. Recorded as a 'radio single' lol. Yeah, right! He wanted to cut John Sykes out of money anywhere and whenever any chance was available. If they hadn't re-recorded that single Sykes probably wouldnt have to ever work again. I might be pushing it a bit, but he lost millions and Coverdale gained millions, not having to share the royalties and publishing. On another note, Coverdale single handedly ruined what could have been one of the best live tours of the 80's and quite possibly a follow up album that may have blown the Whitesnake out of the water! The Blue Murder album did very well. It had great material and even had a few good singles on it. Would have been even better as Whitesnake material. If you ever saw Whitesnake live with John Sykes, Aynsley, and Neil you known what I mean by a great show! Damn, they were good live! Coverdale's greed and jealousy of John Sykes lead to John and the band's firing. Consequently the hiring of another FULL BAND of hired guns like Adrian Vandenberg, Steve Vai, Vivian Campbell at one point until Vai came into the fold, Rudy Sarzo, and Tommy Aldridge. Those players were hired to replace the previous Whitesnake members and they toured their asses off, pushing the Whitesnake album and making Coverdale rich AF, mainly because he no longer had to pay the guys who wrote the Whitesnake album. I'm sure they got publishing for the songs they were credited for on Whitesnake, but not the money they should have made touring and supporting the album that they worked hard to write and record. I can't even imagine how fevered those shows would have been with Sykes and the other guys feeding off the energy of those songs they wrote together! The hired guns were good live. I saw Whitesnake 4 times with the mix of all those guys. Anyway, Coverdale found out during the making of Whitesnake that Sykes and others were contemplating firing him, from the band. Because Coverdale claimed he had throat problems, was sick, didn't like some of the music arrangements, etc, etc, he wouldn't come in to record vocals when needed in the studio. Sykes got frustrated along with the other musicians to the point of discussing with the label about possibly firing Coverdale and finishing the album without him. Rightly so. We've all heard the guitar masterpiece that John Sykes was writing and recording! Who wouldn't be frustrated with an egomaniac singer slowing its process down. Anyway, Coverdale managed to regain control of his ship and exacted revenge by firing all involved and cutting most out of any and all money opportunities involved with the Whitesnake album. Coverdale reportedly even went as far as claiming that he wrote guitar parts for some of the songs and Coverdale couldn't at that time barely play 3 chords on a guitar, much less write badass riffs like the ones heard on that album! Long story short and to get to my point, if Coverdale does "re-imagine" those two records "Slide it In" and "Whitesnake" and you don't see John Sykes, Aynsley Dunbar, or Neil Murray credited for the music, or songs like they were on the original releases, do those guys a favor and stick it to David Coverdale.... DO NOT BUY THOSE RE-ISSUES!!! It would serve Coverdale a very cold dish, he so richly deserves for cutting those men out of royalties and opportunities to play for fans live on that album! They deserved to be credited on ALL of those songs! Boycott those new Whitesnake recordings, if they happen and those musicians aren't getting their dues!!! It's the right thing to do for them!

I met Michael and his sweet wife Sue twice at Disneyland and they were both very down to earth people - can’t say anything bad about them because there’s nothing bad about them - God bless them
Mike has so much class. He isn't bitter. He made a lot of money in VH. Ed and Al didn't make the split very pleasant yet through it all, he has always said nice stuff about the brothers. Happy for Mike.
I knew Mike’s brother, Bob Sobolewski, while working at Staar Surgical Co. in Monrovia, Ca. One day, during the early 80s, Bob’s brother Mike gave him a brand new Chevy Blazer for his little brother’s birthday. And this was in the middle of the Van Halen heydays. Mike came by once in a while to say hello. He is very approachable and there’s no phoniness about him at all. He sent his kids to public school in my town in Glendora, along with my kids. Mike’s a saint.
A few years back I took my kids to a soccer tournament here in San Diego and Michael was on the sidelines cheering his kids just like all the parents and he was being normal and talking to everyone and was such a cool dude, even though he is the bass player for VH. I didnt expect the normal and cool demeanor!
I am now 51 years old, all my rock heroes are getting old, as we all do. It is so nice to hear MA talk about playing whatever. That old VH music deserves to be played. It would not be a disrespect to Ed, it would be showing the music the respect it deserves.... and me, as a paying customer would love to see it done. I can not wait to get back out there and hear these guys playing again. Great interview,.....
Van Halen with DLR in the early years has always been a favorite of mine for many reasons. Even though EVH was so incredible, Michael’s bass was better for me personally back in those days because I was a young girl/kid (age 10 in 1980) listening to my older brothers music and the bass were the beats I danced to. Van Halen was one of the few bands of my brothers I could dance to and Michael’s bass raised the bar for my ears to pay close attention to at an early age. Feeling the bass has always been my favorite part of any song since. ❤️
David Lee Roth when he was working his way into the band told the guys they would draw bigger crowds if the music could be danced to and that he could personally verify if it was danceable or not.
"Light up the sky" "Hang Em high" "Sinners Swing" "5150"(the whole album) More bass, more bass! "DOA" Thanks Jeremy and Mike, THE coolest Bass player ever, never talks down anyone, anything. Class act🏆.
I had the honor of meeting Michael in 1998 at Myrtle Beach SC, we we’re staying at the same hotel. He sat with me and my buddy for about an hour or two at the outside bar. One of the nicest dudes you could ever hope to meet. As far as a bass player, he’s as solid as anyone to ever play. His backing vocals was a huge part of what made VH so distinct. It’s so great that he’s still out there playing music with Sammy, I also heard he’s gonna be doing another band project with Phil X. Can’t wait to hear that! Keep rocking Mikey.
Nice work Jeremy! Thanks for asking about stuff, like his relationship with Andy Johns, Noel Monk, and Greg Renoff! Nobody usually digs that deep. I think Mikey appreciated that!
This was definitely an interview constructed from a fan's perspective. Its so relatable as it has a way of making you feel as if you were there as well... his questions and feedback would be very much the same as mine would have been
Mike has shown such grace and humility through the whole period from when he was ousted, being sidelined in favour of Wolfie (who IMHO in his stead did an awesome job) never coming across as bitter or upset, and he's a monster bassist and backing vocalist! Great interview! The Circle stuff sounds immense too! Nuno Bettencourt said, Rock And Roll is being ignored but ain't dead... defo not if you guys have anything to say about it!
Love ya Mike! Much respect to Wolf and I'm looking forward to hearing his album but... truly, to many fans, VH was never the same without your bass playing and vocals. You're a class act. Take care!
MICHAEL, I'M ALL FOR IT!!! I Would love to see that tour with everyone involved with VH. PRINT THOSE TICKETS!!! Michael you are the best backup vocal artist in the world.
@@markravitz1684 I never like his vocals and stayed away from VH because of him. I saw them in concert once in the 80's. Roth is a complete asshole without any sort of class at all. Mike shits more class every morning that Roth could ever think of having.
Legend!!!! I’ll turn 50 years old later this year and when I was a teenager in the early 80’s, Van Halen was the only thing in my whole world! They really were the total package of rock n’ roll!
I hope Mike sees this ...dude you are so much more than just a bass player your energy vocals and love of the music are and were so much the power behind it all ......thank you
Saw VH in OKC in 1992. Vince Neil opened, and we all sat around drinking beer talking. All of a sudden, the lights dimmed, it was quiet for a sec, and they started playing Mine All Mine. Everyone threw their beers & rushed the stage. We made it to the front (no seating) right between Mike & Sammy. Crazy good concert. Encore 2 was Rockin in the Free world by Neil Young. Sammy would stop the show every 10-20 minutes & make sure everyone was ok because there was so much pushing to get up front. Mike didn’t have his Jack Daniels bass because he had set it on fire 2 nights before in Houston. Thank you so much for the awesome show’s!
Totally enjoyed this interview, lots of information on different production mangers and their personalities giving specific style input into the album sounds....More bass my man... What terrific and down to earth gentleman. Thanks for SO many FUN memories. Love from Buffalo NY!
This is a solid interview. One that's done from a fan's perspective. Great questions followed up by the kind of feedback that I believe would be the same reactions as the majority of fans' had any of us been there with them casually discussing Van Halen, The Circle, and future possibilities.
He's so cool... so down to earth... he's so humble, it's hard to wrap your mind around the fact he was in one of the, if not THE biggest band in rock history. If love to have a beer with this guy!
Michael Anthony is such a kool dude and great interview. I just love all the early Roth era stuff the best, but I do Occasionally enjoy hearing him with Sam. Just go back and listen to "Bottoms Up" from Van Halen II, the middle section, phenomenally unbelievable, effortless vocals. I'll miss my fav band of all time, but at least I still have my memories and the albums forever.
So awesome! Love Michael Anthony.! He actually created a lot of their more mind blowing full force Blast..: Michael was always his own show live too. He smiled the most, maintained high performance energy for a longest years he would use mind blowing surprise attacks with both his bass playing and singing, in both he would come blazing played
For all years this guy lived it up all the partying & touring it's great to see that he still has a passion for the music. He's a great performer & always lays it out there. A true R&R Icon with a great attitude.
This is why Mikey is so cool. Met him & Ed some years back & he’s the same today. Chill. Humble. The kind of guy you’d want to hang with even if he wasn’t the best rock n roll bass player evaaahh.
Michael is an absolute joy of a human being Humble, genuine, nice, down to earth.......hell of an artist without being "artsy " and douchey MICHAEL!!!!
Michael Anthony the most underrated bass player. As a person an amazing guy, he could have talked trash about Eddie after he got fired but he kept quiet, what a gentleman! I appreciate how Sammy values the man. You're amazing Michael.
Mr Anthony is a class act, that is one of the reasons I bought some of the hot sauces, Quality over quantity. Thanks MA for all the Low Es and High Harmonies.
I dig the man's bass work, his vocals, his attitude, and the musicians he collaborates with now and back then. An all-around all-star and the more I learn, the more I like about Michael Anthony.
Michael Anthony was the heart, soul, spirit, and pride of Van Halen. Aside from his bas and backing vocal abilities, which we know are top notch, but no one waved the =\//-/= flag as high and proudly as Mike
I tell you something Jeremy - you got a great channel dude. You being a musician yourself (like myself) means you got all these amazing legends talking about what I’m interested in, all the behind the scenes stuff and music related stuff. It’s really awesome. Well done mate 👏👏👏
Michael Anthony is THE most down to earth nicest guys EVER - always took the high road during the squabbles AND his background vocals are AS BIG a part of the Van Halen sound and what made them LEGENDS as much as Alex’s signature snare sound or Ed’s brown sound tone - I got to meet Mike about 3 times at meet and greets and backstage stuff - once at the Philly Spectrum the VH III tour - sometimes I wanna cry listening to the VH catalogue these days because I’m a huge Edward fan and he’s the reason I started playing guitar after seeing him on the 1984 tour but then I smile real big at the awesome vocals and choruses when they all come in like angels - glad to hear this great interview and Mike’s awesome attitude 🤘🤘🤘
Great interview Jeremy! Michael is the coolest. Just a regular guy, reminds me of a couple of my buddies from high school. I can’t wait to bump into him around town someday. 🎸🇺🇸👍🏻
The Van Halen catalog is huge - they absolutely had staying power in times where public tastes where changing, a new VH album had them all running to the stores !
Mikey is so friggin rad and so down to earth, like Sammy is. Mikey gets back to you on his Gram account, they're both just one rad dudes. Went to 5150, F.U.C.K. & Balance tours, awesome! Great interview!
What an absolute class act Mike is. Totally genuine, humble...just a great dude. Also a great bass player that sings amazing harmonies. I'd love to hear him do some lead vox! Great interview, brother...thanks so much!

Eddie didn't have anything nice to say about Mike in Eruption. Which was disappointing
Michael Anthony is clearly a good guy. He is proof that a happy and gracious life keeps you young. This guy hasn’t aged!
He’s the best!
Most famous people are normal
I am now 51 years old, all my rock heroes are getting old, as we all do. It is so nice to hear MA talk about playing whatever. That old VH music deserves to be played. It would not be a disrespect to Ed, it would be showing the music the respect it deserves.... and me, as a paying customer would love to see it done. I can not wait to get back out there and hear these guys playing again. Great interview,.....
Mike seems like such a genuine dude.
I met the band in 1998. Mike is the nicest guy I’ve ever met, famous or otherwise.

Is Michael not one of the nicest people you’ve ever heard interviewed? So chill, kind, complimentary and honorable. Best ever.
The best!!
@@JeremyWhiteShow Mike always first class VH2 THE BEST
Michael Anthony is 100% CLASS
"Light up the sky"
"Hang Em high"
"Sinners Swing"
"5150"(the whole album)
More bass, more bass!
"DOA"
Thanks Jeremy and Mike,
THE coolest Bass player ever, never talks down anyone, anything. Class act🏆.
* *SCOTTOCASTER 66* * - How dare you forget his high end vocals with "In a Simple Rhyme?" Imma gonna slappa you with wet spaghetti......lol
@@JamminClemmons I know, I know, there was this too much typing thing, all these letters and button pushing. I just got Frazzled for a second 🤪.
@@Scottocaster6668 - I back ya.
Blinded by Michael's brilliance.
There's a recent video of some bass player playing along to "Light UP The Sky" Michael is playing some serious notes.
Michael Anthony was ALWAYS a class-act!!!
Great rocker, bass player, singer,u name it..huge part of one of the greatest bands ever
Michael Anthony on backing vocals..every lead singers dream..
The Mighty Michael Anthony!! Van Halen was never the same without him. His backing vocals were the key to VH songs. 🎸😎🎸
Still cannot believe the original 4 VH members weren't together for 1 tour, 1996-2009.
I'd LOVE to hear Michael sing the first 6 albums live!
Terrific bassist and a special vocalist. So good to see he's getting the appreciation he deserves.
Absolutely!! I'm having Sammy on soon, Hope ya subscribe so ya don't miss it! :D
The man doesn't speak one bad thing about anyone... Very controlled very conservative.. And I was very impressed.. great interview.
GREAT TO SEE Michael!! thanks... He really worked some magic on that bass!
Great interview. And nothing but love for Michael Anthony. One of the genuine good guys in the business.
Classiest fckn rock star ever! Kinda guy u know you could walk up to and have a drink and good conversation and some fun. Love Mikey
Mikey? Shut up
Love ya Mike!
Mike has every reason to absolutely hate thebVH brothers and Dave. But he doesn't. That's called grace. He is just a great dude.
I can't believe you got an interview with this guy. He's one of my biggest influences. Those bass lines and harmony vocals.
Great to see Mike. His contribution to VH can not be overstated. Band wouldn't have been complete without Michael Anthony.
Mike was a big part of VH no doubt. Killer bassist and nice bloke. Thanks Mike and the boys for the music from an Aussie fan.
Michael Anthony voice would have saved Roth during the last vh tours
totally. his voice always was a safety net
Nothing could save Roth. He is terrible....always has been
@@markravitz1684 I never like his vocals and stayed away from VH because of him. I saw them in concert once in the 80's. Roth is a complete asshole without any sort of class at all. Mike shits more class every morning that Roth could ever think of having.
Totally

Legend!!!! I’ll turn 50 years old later this year and when I was a teenager in the early 80’s, Van Halen was the only thing in my whole world! They really were the total package of rock n’ roll!
Great performer and player. He was never overshadowed on stage. Huge sound and presence.
Total respect, will always be a huge fan of Mike. It's great that he and Sammy stuck together, l love Chicken foot and The Circle. They Rock!!!
Great interview. Michael's harmonies were instrumental to the VH sound.
What a guy. The engine of Van Halen. Comes across genuine and lovely.
Michael's bass on "Little Guitars" is one of the best sounding bass tones ever in Van Halen.
So sad there couldn't be one last original line up tour . But wow... they really were the MIGHTY VAN HALEN
Cheers Cynthia! Please subscribe :)
congrats on the channel blowing up
Thanks buddy!! You da man!
There's a handful or so top musicians that I feel are truly genuine guys and Mike is one of them. Along with the 3 from Rush and Mark Tremonti..
This is a solid interview. One that's done from a fan's perspective. Great questions followed up by the kind of feedback that I believe would be the same reactions as the majority of fans' had any of us been there with them casually discussing Van Halen, The Circle, and future possibilities.
Mikey!! Always classy, always the humble gentlemen!!! In many ways the glue in VH
This Montrealer always liked Michael Anthony. Fortunate enough to see him live with VH several times
This man could sing and perform!❤️
One of the nicest guys in R&R
He's so cool... so down to earth... he's so humble, it's hard to wrap your mind around the fact he was in one of the, if not THE biggest band in rock history. If love to have a beer with this guy!
Great interview! Lifetime fan of Michael Anthony!
Michael Anthony, nicest man in ROCK! 🌴
That would be a tie with Michael Sweet. 🤘
There's a duo I want to see!!!!
@@jaysonraphaelmurdock8812 Right? Could you imagine the vocals??
Great interview. Mark is such a great man. Jeremy did a great job.
I liked the uncomfortable silence when he told Mike that Roth was using his vocal tracks in concert
I just watched one of DLR videos and noticed it was Michael Anthony's backing vocals and now this interview 😆
Hey Jeremy I love this, kudos to you and of course Mike, very cool.
Thanks Gary! Hope ya subscribe ✌️
I am on board. I would love to see a Dave & Michael tour!
Super star at its finest. Talent and voice. No ego.
Nice Job Jeremy. Mike is a great bass player and a really sweet guy, so down to earth. I really enjoyed the conversation, thanks so much
Thanks Tom!! Hope ya subscribe ✌️
Michael Anthony is not only a great bass player but what a great human being and friend never has a bad thing to say about anyone
This is why Mikey is so cool. Met him & Ed some years back & he’s the same today. Chill. Humble. The kind of guy you’d want to hang with even if he wasn’t the best rock n roll bass player evaaahh.
Michael is an absolute joy of a human being
Humble, genuine, nice, down to earth.......hell of an artist without being "artsy " and douchey
MICHAEL!!!!
Michael Anthony the most underrated bass player. As a person an amazing guy, he could have talked trash about Eddie after he got fired but he kept quiet, what a gentleman! I appreciate how Sammy values the man. You're amazing Michael.
Excellent interview, intelligent questions, Michael Anthony's playing was superb and one of the nicest people in the industry

Mr Anthony is a class act, that is one of the reasons I bought some of the hot sauces, Quality over quantity. Thanks MA for all the Low Es and High Harmonies.
Michael Anthony is my favorite bass player of all times All the bands he played with makes you want to party.. Keep rocking Mike
Good interview Jeremy... Michael seems like such a class act... would be fun to share a beer with him.

You Sir; You are following and setting the right foundation for me. Thanks Michael.
Love to have a beer with Mikey, he is class and an all round nice guy.
I tell you something Jeremy - you got a great channel dude. You being a musician yourself (like myself) means you got all these amazing legends talking about what I’m interested in, all the behind the scenes stuff and music related stuff. It’s really awesome. Well done mate 👏👏👏
I'd love to see a remaster of balance. That's my favorite album even though I've been a fan since the dlr days.
We have so much of the same taste in music. Love your interviews!
Ayyyy cheers Dave!
The Van Halen catalog is huge - they absolutely had staying power in times where public tastes where changing, a new VH album had them all running to the stores !
An amazing bass player, and his vocals are “THE” key to the Van Halen sound
Michael us an effing great bass player and person.
Tank is a great guy and rocker! Thanks for all the great shows MA!
Mikey is so friggin rad and so down to earth, like Sammy is. Mikey gets back to you on his Gram account, they're both just one rad dudes. Went to 5150, F.U.C.K. & Balance tours, awesome! Great interview!

You know Mike doesn't have an ego. Playing along side Ed all those years and never pushing himself out front, or complaining.
