I agree with awkward girl. Especially love the way you pulled apart the specific radicals that form the complete character and then given us a mnemonic to help us remember the character. I want more!
Harry, we love you! Above your personality, you gave interesting mnemotechnics. I have already known all these characters so I have my own mnemotechnics, but yours are better :D To my ear you have "particular" accent in both languages. Where did you spend childhood or most of your life?
Nice lesson! I have a question: is Harry going to make more videos for ChinesePod? Because I have not seen a lot of videos from him and he would complement the videos that are already available, since the majority of hosts is female.
Hi Susanna, we are working with different hosts/teachers in our new lessons and we're glad that we are receiving positive responses for Harry's video. Your feedback is very much appreciated as it helps us evaluate our teachers/hosts and teaching methods. Thank you for your support!
There are different types of Chinese characters, some are pictographs that aim to represent something in reality with symbols. For example, 脊 which means spine. You can see that the top part of this really looks like a spine! There are others that are phonetic compound characters and so are pronounced based on the sounds that specific radicals carry (radicals are what we call the parts of the characters). For example, 梅 is pronounced méi and is made up of the compounds 木 mù and 每 měi。There are other types of characters as well, so yes most characters are very interesting!
The standard tone is bu4, but when it is followed by another fourth-toned character, it should change to bu2. For example 不是(bu2 shi4), 不热(bu2 re4), 不去(bu2 qu4).
Just like Harry mentioned, it looks like a frame covering three sides of the character, so 周 can mean around, for example 周围(zhou1 wei2) around/near, 周边(zhou1 bian1) rim.
very useful lesson, also the teacher is very interesting.make the words very easy to understand.
Easily the best presenter since Fiona left. So clear and relatable. Thanks mate.
Interesting way to explain weekend 末 by telling us 末 means end.
Never heard about this before.
Thank you.
This teacher is the cuttest! Brazil here!
I had to rewatch the video a second time, the 1st time I was too busy staring at Harry, he's such a cutie! ♥

Thanks for your support!

Is the right part of the character 比 also a stand-alone character as well?
Woow my best way to learn Chinese
Enjoy learning Chinese with ChinesePod! :)
I like your teaching style, does "不" has another tone like in "不是"?
Is there any other characters with the four dots meaning fire?
2:46 "he has a bugger fush" hehe I love it :-)
您好
Is there any other character with 目 that is related to seeing or eyes?
Great and cute teacher!
How to say the canopy of a tree in Mandarin? Does it have anything to do with 末?
You're so good mate!
would you think it takes more effort to remember the stories behind?
Regarding the tone of 不, which one is correct: bu4 or bu2?
The standard tone is bu4, but when it is followed by another fourth-toned character, it should change to bu2. For example 不是(bu2 shi4), 不热(bu2 re4), 不去(bu2 qu4).
At 1:24 to 1:25, the host pronounced 末 as mo2, but the rest of the time he pronounced it as mo4. Should it be mo4?
Hey Xumei, the correct pronunciation for 末 is mò. Thanks for your question!
You are agreat teacher!
💛 so helpful xie xie
Nice, from Cambodia.
Mnemonics!! I love mnemonics!!
Nice lesson!
Thanks!
The pronunciation of the character "周" is not correct, but the else is interesting. Good teacher like Harry.
What's the meaning of 周? Does it have anything to with its shape?
Just like Harry mentioned, it looks like a frame covering three sides of the character, so 周 can mean around, for example 周围(zhou1 wei2) around/near, 周边(zhou1 bian1) rim.
What’s the difference between 冷 and 冻?
冷 means cold and 冻 means to freeze.
So you don't get small eyes like me.. haha this guy is funny
Is there any difference between 看 and 看看?
看看 is more casual, like doing the action casually. For example 我们周末去博物馆看看吧 Let’s go to the museum at the weekend.
👌
Just want to check if ”meatball” means “丸” or “肉丸”
Is meatball 丸 or 肉丸?
Meatball is 肉丸. The character 丸 means food in ball shapes, like fish ball 鱼丸.
Your small eyes are cool bro
Is there any difference between 看 and 见?
