Tks for sharing how u sharpen this mower.. It's because of this video I had the confidence to get it even though your method seems a lot of fiddling around...
Hi, Dan. Thanks for sharing. I follow your procedures to sharpen the reel, but several improvements have been made. I purchased a 5/8" 1/2" deep 12-point socket that can exactly hold the little piece of metal and a socket adapter from Bunnings. Unfortunately, the grinding paste is not available across the whole QLD Supercheap Auto. Finally, I got a 500g bottle of cylinder mower paste from Brisbane Cylinder Mower Specialist. Cannot be happier to get the reel sharp.
Hi Dan , where did you get the metal roller from ? I don’t like the plastic rollers and need some weight on it hate putting a seed bag on top. Also thanks so much for the video saved me $170 service I didn’t want to pay… used the steps and used a 15mm long impact socket with the screw and it got onto the reel perfectly with the hand held , my belt was so tight compared to your video took a lot to get it back on.
Couldn't you put in some sort of switch to change the motor polarity/direction, so you can back lap without pulling mower apart? Love the mods you have done.😀
@@remyche8768 besides adding the switch to reverse polarity on the dc motor is only half done. You need to do mechanic adaptation too, which is pretty simple. Browse through my videos and you will find how to do it. Let me know if you cant find it. Cheers

Excellent suggestions, thanks
Tks for sharing about the socket.. Definitely will make life easier..
can you please link the exact products you used? thanks
I got a 5/8 and it didn’t fit over my metal bit on the shaft!
@@chrislewis3322 get the deep socket one from supercheap auto. the one from bunnings isn't deep enough
Hi, how tight do you have the cylinder against the knife bed? It seems yours is touching?

I'm currently trying that, it won't work, it only engages the gears going forward off the motor. 😢

Hi Dan, does this need to be done with the drill going forward or in reverse?
Since it is called back lapping the blade needs to spin backwards
What’s the clear acrylic mod for ?
Fairly sure it just acts as a platform to put a bag of sand or something on to add weight to the mower.
Can you backlap by turning the wheel instead of removing everything?
Loctite might have helped.
@@akabbara8928 yes you can but that’s will be very tiring
I mean all that screwing around with the socket you coulve bought yourself a bit adaptor set with the 1/4 bit 3/8bit & 1/2" bit
Do you have a photo of what you mean with those bits, thanks?
@@tameemoz just google "1/4 3/8 1/2" adapter bit
What's the purpose of backlapping
I'm a newbie to the ozito mowing world
It’s to sharpen the blades if they become damaged from hitting a rock or just worn.
@@danbretherton thanks dan i watched the video at work with minimal volume , upon reflection you explained that perfect in the video haha
