The fact that the Beatles did what they did in a span of about 9 years is amazing. I understand all the time they played all night long in places in Germany and Europe but when the "hit it big" they were gone before we could blink. Just unreal.
I think that this is awesome. I would buy an album of them doing nothing but covers. Come one...The Beatles, Radiohead, The Strokes, etc all done in the Punch Brothers style....that would be amazing.
Just clicking through Punch Brothers videos on UA-cam and you come across this gem. First off, thank you so much to the uploader! And second, Gabe is singing lead! Perhaps he couldn't find a good way to fit the fiddle in, so they stuck him on lead vocals. Anyway, it's awesome! I can never get enough of them.
so we have Charlie Day, Sherlock Holmes, The oldest brother from Malcom in the Middle, and the banjo player from Punch Brothers. Man, that must of been a weird day for that guy.
The Beatles played it live with 10,000 screaming girls and equipment from the stone age of music, in a venue built for football not music. So, I think any video comparison would be difficult to make. I think if you look at the Punch Brothers and the Beatles side by side would be using the Rooftop Concert of the Beatles with the Punch Brothers 3-part Romp concert on youTube. You see the interplay between band members and the creation of greatness in both. Seeing Thile live in Durham, NC 10/29/13
My favorite part of the video is at 0:58, where Gabe and Chris both jerk away from their mics and start dancing and Noam's just standing there having no part of it. Anyway, hilarious cover--thanks for posting. And I think the video quality is perfectly fine.
Nirvana is said to be the most influential band of all time... Does that mean they were drowning in talent? Absolutely not. The Punch Brothers are the most talent I've ever seen in any band.
Why bother comparing Punch Brothers to the Beatles? Two different times, different instruments and a decidedly different edge. Both genius. I dare say that Punch Brothers love the Beatles enough that they worked hard to do justice to what Lennon & McCartney wrote. Awesome, both. I have never heard Gabe sing before but he can carry a tune all right. They are all phenomenal musicians. Hey you should hear them play classical. Mind blowing.
the punch brothers are awesome. their live shows are astounding and their recordings are superb. chris is definitely worthy of his genius grant. but, c'mon, no one has ten times the talent of the beatles, so why say it? no one on that stage believes it, and it is not necessary to poor mouth the beatles to give the punch brothers their due.
Wow, what a band. Thile is pure genius. The fiddle player has a hell of a strong lead voice - as all of them do, excepting Noam, but even he isn't bad. :-) Noam may be Bela Fleck #2. I think he began banjo much younger than did Fleck, for what that's worth. How many Jewish banjo players are there anyway? Pete Wernick, Noam Pickelny... is Fleck Jewish? Probably. /// Go Punch Brothers!
From seeing their earlier videos, the title of this made me think it was a Radiohead cover of Paperbag Writer that someone misspelled. Now I'm a bit sad.
@erowe749 How sad that you are 100% correct. I doubt the creators of YT had that in mind when they allowed comments. If the comments had to be hand written a lot of them would be in crayon.
Wouldn't it be great if UA-cam would outlaw people who made dickhead comments for no good reason except to feel good on the internet? And it was a Flip Camera. Jerk.
I understand your annoyance, but I disagree. People have the right to voice their opinions -- as idiotic and rude as they might be. Just like you, and I, have the right to call them idiots, or dickheads.
OK, the most hilarious thing about this video is that when the Beatles did this song live, they sounded horrible. The Punch Brothers totally stole this song from them, as far as live performance goes. No competition.
your 8 letter word at the end of a part of your comment sure looks good for young people to see .. and be affected by it &@(!(( HEAD ... that's the one . so keep your language to your self. OK>
GREAT COVER! Just could do without the lady yelling near the phone ... and what's with that laugh? Is it really so funny that a great band should be covering a great and legendary band? Nonetheless, great capture and thanks for posting!
The more your hear covers of the beatles the more you realize how truly amazing their music was... and still is.
What?! If u need covers to realise that you’re still not gettin it Bro
The fact that the Beatles did what they did in a span of about 9 years is amazing. I understand all the time they played all night long in places in Germany and Europe but when the "hit it big" they were gone before we could blink. Just unreal.
That show was epic, as the Punch Brothers always are.
Thile, dancin and actin a fool 🤣 while he twists that poor mandolin and busts a move. These guys are the shit!
What magic music........top performance. Punch Bros have breathed new life into this wonderful Beatles classic. Top stuff.
I think that this is awesome. I would buy an album of them doing nothing but covers. Come one...The Beatles, Radiohead, The Strokes, etc all done in the Punch Brothers style....that would be amazing.
This is exquisite, playful and fun.
A great cover of a Beatles classic. Well done. Thanks for sharing
fun to listen to this cover, great music rendition and singing!
Thanks for the video. They never come around here. I appeciate getting to see them. Outstanding quality as well.
Thanks for uploading. These guys never disappoint.
People! Not even the Beatles themselves could play this live. Respect.
I saw them live last night! They were as awesome as ever!
Next to the Beatle Brothers... this... by the Punch Brothers... is quite excellent

Thank god we have phones with cams on them! This makes me SOOO Happy!~
great version!
SICK. NASTY. Oh man, I would've peed my pants. hahah! I hope they do this next time I see them!
To erowe749: many thanks for uploading. thanks for spreading the sound!
so we have Charlie Day, Sherlock Holmes, The oldest brother from Malcom in the Middle, and the banjo player from Punch Brothers. Man, that must of been a weird day for that guy.
love it, thanks

real nice harmonizing, thanx to the video taper...
The best cover I've ever seen of this song. Second only to the original. Well fucking done boys!
Andrew Don, Esq. the more I think about it, it IS pretty fucking odd.
Andrew Don, Esq. Because it's more efficient than interpretive dance
I notice you didn't fucking interpretively dance that comment
What a freaking cover!

❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️yessss

What the hell are you talking about

He sings quite a bit on the early stuff, even on some album tracks
That fiddler sure can sing!
Shame there is no high quality recording of them doing this tune
The only Beatles cover iv ever hear that i thought was better than the original!
IS THAT DOCTOR WHO SECOND TO LEFT?!?!
Yay Gabe!!!
Stupendi!
Astounding!
That is funny! That's exactly what I thought. He totally looks like Matt Smith.

@revolverrb the beatles played this live at budokan..
you can like it as much as you want ,and punch brothers are really good but my friend the beatles are beyond comparing with anybody and that's that
What's a paperback rider?
+Joris Koolen Paperback writer. It's a song by The Beatles.
No sh!t Joe, but thanks for the reply :D
I wasn't sure if you were Trolling or being genuine. Thought I'd give you the benefit of the doubt. :)
False dichotomy 3 points deducted.
A Kindle Paperwhite writer?
o.k. people i agree this is more fun then a beatles version ,and they obviously appreciate the beatles so i can like them only because of that

Whether this be a cover, or New-grass, it is top class entertainment. the boys do get into it some...don't they?
you got the idea, My tip 101, call TommyV the background vocals on the
real recording he is singing fara chaka??
The Beatles actually were singing the first line of that old French nursery song "Frère Jacques," which goes with the background melody.
From seeing their earlier videos, the title of this made me think it was a Radiohead cover of Paperbag Writer that someone misspelled. Now I'm a bit sad.
Too much awesome!!!!
Unfucking believable
The Beatles did play it live...
solid. hard to top fab four! I prefer their cars cover
@mklnicoli1 hahhaaa i was thinkin that then i read ur comment..maybe they do a cover of Dayman
@erowe749 How sad that you are 100% correct. I doubt the creators of YT had that in mind when they allowed comments. If the comments had to be hand written a lot of them would be in crayon.
Need a cigarette after that.
Popularity doesn't matter... The Punch Brothers have 10 times more talent than The Beatles.
But the Beatles wrote this great Song. When your songs still played after 60 years you really good
All about you
Sweet stuff.
BRO.
I WANT TO HAVE CRITTER'S BABY!!!!!!!!!
Now watch Dr Robert.. the student loan string band
Very musically talented band!

Doc watson
@DCF4L1 Hey! No fair! I was gonna say that!
Ace
Oh what a fine version of that beautiful song, but the old heads did the singing much better.
@JWDekaj7 and 'breast flexing' it's things like that that send you to the weird part of youtube lmao
I like the PB but this is just silly.
Very cool version. But I think you really left something out by not enunciating the "T". Sucks the power out of the vocal.

GREAT COVER! Just could do without the lady yelling near the phone ... and what's with that laugh? Is it really so funny that a great band should be covering a great and legendary band? Nonetheless, great capture and thanks for posting!
It's live...The lady was having a great time. She wasn't worried about your listening pleasure days later. lol
Without the camera you wouldn't be able to watch this great performance...
if it wasnt for the cheap ass camera i would have heard this ....
the quality of the song makes up for the sound
