I think that the use of trenches and artillery in Ukraine is due to the failure of both airforces to hit artillery positions and key infrastructure without high casualties. As well as the very even ground forces. Which has led to both sides sitting in trenches and lobbing shells at each other. But I’d happily be told otherwise. To be honest I’m just guessing.
TBF, with how crappy the enemy spacing was like a single rocket arty from the german side could have nuked all that arty on the crossroads. Not even the 300mm Nebel, the 150mm would have probably nuked that if anyone had brought any.
@@Ronald98 You can use tubes as well, it's just less effective, but with the enemy guns that bunched up a single high-caliber one can inflict high supression on the crews.
Yeah clearly a direct-fire weapon is more of an undignified brawl than a weapon built around the philosophy of "lets just hurl as many shells as possible into the general area of the enemy and surely at least one out of every few dozen will hit something." I bet you really thought this sounded clever when you wrote it.
@@ev6558 i mean not really. In essence the warfare of the time when the quote was made was very similar to WW1, where they threw men at lines until one side broke. In that context, it was not 200 years out of date by WW2, only a mere 30.

Fire a shot over the unknown position, so it doesn't hit anyone, and wait for the response. -If the response is a volley of accurate rifle fire, they're British. -If the response is a barrage of machine gun fire, they're German. -If you're suddenly shot from another direction, they're French. -If they throw down their guns and surrender, they're Italian. -If there's no immediate response, and your position is obliterated minutes later by artillery or airstrikes... they're American.
Can you explain the Italy - France 'mixup', the meme is usually france surrendering. Im guessing italy surrenders due to switching sides twice in the WWs, but what're the french commandos about?
Didn't you guys play Red Dragon and stuff before? Arty is _very_ easy to spot here and all you need is 1-3 arty of your own if they decide to bunch up like that. Just drive them closer to the front, use concealment. Or... use planes
The Soviets put an average of 100 guns per km in the breakthrough sectors for operation Bagration. So around 2 orders of magnitude more guns than these games...

Artillery really does make people mad
Yeah, thousands of tons of explosive shells will do that to a guy.
clearly those people are bad at the game
How else are you gonna kill a KT?
Like the Russians in Bakhmut
ABSOLUTE POWER!
The best way to beat artillery is to use more artillery than your opponent. We learned this the hard way in WW1
I always used mobile artillery, fired half a salvo then run like hell. Causes the enemy team to completly ignore artying my troops.
Nooooo! But I wanna micro the tanks! Not have artillery duels! I'll just call people "toxic"!
@@KingofDiamonds117 That is the actual correct way to win modern artillery fights: spot the enemy arti, bomb it, run like hell, repeat.
Learning it in Ukraine too, technology is at that point in the cycle of trench and mobile warfare, where we're back to trenches and good ol' Artillery

Arty is king, learned that in foxhole after wiping our whole team xD
Hello fellow foxhole enjoyer
This is what i imagine superior firepower doctrine in hoi4 to be like
people clustering their arty together in one location are just asking to be countered
Just use air support, they literally placed all their arti in ONE location.
Dam the Ukraine larp with the artillery hitting armoured columns is real
The larp is more insane when you see nazi tanks burning by artillery shells, truly a Ukraine counter-offfensive moment.

Artillery adds dignity to what otherwise would be a vulgar brawl.
Getting blown up by a 155mm shell generally isn’t very elegant
