Had a 1984 S-10 with the 2.8 L LR2 60* V6 engine. Great truck and the right amount of power from the engine. Mine had multiple belts on it for all the stuff rather than the nice clean serpentine belt.
The 2.5 and 2.8 are both great motors. They're simple, reliable, inexpensive, easy to service and torquey engines. They weren't designed for high-rpm "hp/L" whores. Most 2.8s in cars at this time were MPFI in the 125-140hp, 160-170ft*lbs torque range (depending what version of the engine you had). Looks like this S10 is still a TBI or carbed version, but compact trucks were a low cost market back then. Many people just bought them for simple transportation.
My 91 2.8 5speed is no speed demon, but with a flowmaster it sounds great, looks great, and will smoke the tires very nicely. May not be the fastest on the road but its great fun. It IS much much faster than my friends 93 k1500 with a stock tbi 350. I wouldnt be embarrased to take it to the strip and run a pathetic 1/8 mile because i bet it does better than alot of full sized trucks. Great motor, transmission, and trucks all around
I have an 84 too. I think the reason for all the extra vacuum lines is that they had to make it get better gas mileage while poluting less. since the tbi is more efficient it did not need as much add on equipment. I have removed about all of the emission equipment and it has much more power. Just don't disconnect the secondaries or the vacuum advance on the distributer.
Yes, in these trucks, the 4-banger was occasionally quicker. But part of the reason was the 4-bangers had deeper gearing in the axle - usually 3.73s with the 4-speed, while the 2.8s got 3.42s. Ask any serious racer if gearing matters. The 2.8s were excellent engines. My '91 racked up over 300,000 miles and was showing no signs of quitting. Sure, it wasn't the quickest thing on the road, but then again, it didn't need to be - it was a truck not a race car.
Well I think the 2.8 is a very good read engine I've had mine for quite some time and I got over 335,000 malls in it now getting ready to do a 350 small block swap on it I'm going to keep it street legal that way I can keep it going if anybody needs a 2.8 l holler at me I will have one very soon for sale but while I'm building my V8 I'm also going to rebuild my V6 put new gaskets and clean it up a bit that way whoever buys it next will have a decent running motor for a little bit longer it's a well-built engine they were definitely built to last
i have an 88 s10 durango addition 2.8l v6 same motor as you and my problem is i absolutely cant find a diagram for the vacuum lines cuz i fount 3 that were cut so i plugged them for now and also it idles high but prolly cuz the vacuum lines idk but can u make a video of the vacuum lines going around ur throttle body it would help alot
right now i have a 2.8 multi port fi in my camaro it set for ten years before i bought the car brought it home new plugs wires distributor oil change and gaskets and coil and it started right up im having some vacuum problems now im going to fix them then sell it im going to drop a built 400 in here soon but the 2.8 is an ok motor.
@griever636 my brother had a 91 s10 5 speed 2.8 s10 with 293,000 miles and ran like new, damn thing had all kinds of power, it had been through hell also, he never drove it easy and never let him down in the almost 100,000 miles he drove it,gave it a tune up and a water pump, that was it, we ended up scrapping the truck cause it was falling apart, sold the engine for $200
Tbi is still better then Carb though 2.8 carbed Ive raced two with carbs same truck basicly. Mines a 92 S-10 Tahoe 4x2 with tbi 2.8 and dusted em. And MPG is more notorious for the 2.2 and 2.5 iron Duke.. Your truck reminds me of my truck looks like blue fenders on a red truck.
I bought this truck to part out for a 1951 Chevy truck build. I was just shooting the video to show the engine running for the ad. This was a non-AC truck with Power streering and it does appear to have the smog pump. That would be a belt 95-3/4" long, like Gates belt, K060952.
quick question yall I got a 2.8 also and did a timing chain redo I took off the ps pump and bracket and now cant seem to find the bolts that go in the bracket anyone know the sizes or possibly take yours out and tell me that way please asap
Tengo una igual y me está fallando derrepente dejo de.pasar corriente ala caja de fucibles y no manda corriente ala bomba de gasolina ni encienden las luces que podría ser el problema
@Robert Burley the 4.3 is more durable than the 2.8 which is a piece of shit I have owned both in 2 different s10 trucks and I am a mechanic so I have been around a lot of them the 2.8 is garbage and again we are talking about chevy S10s not Toyota which most toyotas are great vehicles very dependable
@Robert Burley I lose what kind of comment is that? so you had good luck with the 2.8 but it does not change the fact that the 4.3 is much more dependable it literally is like the 350 with two less cylinders ford also made a 2.8 which was a little more durable than the GM 2.8 but still it was junk too and no I did not lose its just your opinion against mine I could care less which engine you like
Yupper. Had an '89, '91 & '94. Miss them all. What great machines.

I had one of these. Good engine, you couldn't kill it.

I have an 88 2.5 Iron Duke…great engine, great truck!! So easy to work on. No power anything!!

+xaenon Lol, You lucked out, the bulk of the 2.8 were junk.
@@toyoscio I have a 2.8 now on 240000 miles and still going. Not a bad engine at all. Not the fastest but definitely not the slowest neither
Well I think the 2.8 is a very good read engine I've had mine for quite some time and I got over 335,000 malls in it now getting ready to do a 350 small block swap on it I'm going to keep it street legal that way I can keep it going if anybody needs a 2.8 l holler at me I will have one very soon for sale but while I'm building my V8 I'm also going to rebuild my V6 put new gaskets and clean it up a bit that way whoever buys it next will have a decent running motor for a little bit longer it's a well-built engine they were definitely built to last
i had 2.8 liter fuel injection v6 in my 88 s10 until it went flat but replacement has been underway for the past 8 weeks with a 1992 chevy s10 engine

My dad had one. lasted 238000 miles

Your truck reminds me of my truck looks like blue fenders on a red truck.
Have one has 279000 miles and is still going scrap in it everyday
Did your truck come with the serpentine belt setup or did you put it on yourself? I have an 86 and want to convert it from vbelt to serpentine
It came with that setup from the factory.
there is noting wrong wtih a 2.8 moter thay are great moter plus u can do so much with them
I know this was posted forever ago but what size belt did you use for this pulley setup?

Hever thought of it... Any difference of not having the full air intake from the radiator?
Prende al llavazo, el mío tarda bastante en prender, que podría ser?

Wonder how the old girls doing today
Se escucha a toda madre perrón pero qué carburador trae
I have a 2.8 TBI in a sonoma great engine. would be even better if it was MPFI. TBI is a complete waste of gas.
hey I have the same engine how do you change the transmission oil
Are you serious or are you joking
did the truck not come from th factory with an a/c or did you bypass it?
I believe this one came without AC. No work was done to remove or bypass anything.
Do you by chance have the number off ur serpentine drive belt I have same motor but I bypassed AC unit now I need a belt that same size as urs

My 2.8 is pretty fast lol

En cuanto sale y endonde estan
Its that a fuel injected motor or carburetor?
It was a throttle body injected engine
Que motor trae?

Worst motor ever built.
Had one in my '84 Blazer. Blow 2 motors in 1 year. Snapped connecting rods. 2.8L carb engine.
David Hingley not a carb has a throttle body with 2 point injection
@Robert Burley the 4.3 is a hell of a lot better than the weak ass 2.8
