4 Days Winter Bushcraft in Snow, High Winds and Rain - Canvas Poncho Shelter - Vintage Wild Camping

  • 4 days bushcraft camp. Typical weather with snow to changing weather with rain and high winds. White one day and spring the next and back to freezing weather again. But I love this type of changing weather in nature.
    You all know my passion for making different kind of saws in the woods. After the third day upgrade I did with the coils etc I reached a roads end. Can't make a better saw than that. It was an absolute delight to work with. I'll probably put my hand on it making a nice finish etc and use it for a while more.
    I get a lot of questions how I can eat meat after several days out in the woods. Often it's fridge cold and under outside with a freeze in the nights so no problem. When its warmer you just bring it frozen. If its under 10 C outside it takes at least a day for it to thaw and then you can wait one more day before you cook it. I've done this for 15 years and never got sick.
    Thanks for watching!

      Yes I agree. But For me personally while I was out there in God's creation, I would have to praise HIM as the days and nights went by. I like silence out there in the woods and seem to have plenty of time to listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say. 😁👍

      Maybe I am missing something, but he looks like he needs government and other people to make that saw blade, make the pot, make the non organic: shelter, rainhood, boots, knife sheath, etc. He needs government so that he knows some crazed tribe of people wont come and murder him and his village in the night for all his fancy toys.
      Maybe I am overreacting...but we need a government for more than you realize.
      All props to his bushcraft knowledge though. I think you are right that we should never lose these survival skills. I doubt I have the fortitude to stay alone in the wild for days on end without someone or a dog to keep me psychologically sound.

Just for those initial 10 seconds, he had to set up the camera, walk away from it, get back to it, take and bring it forward, set it up again, walk back, and then forward to it - just for those few seconds to use in the intro...I am not even getting started on the rest of the video.

    As someone who has a honour of eating deliciousss chicken soup frequently, I wouldn't cook this chicken so much. I'd boil this water with cracked bones and perhaps bits of skin only, and added the chicken mean 5 minutes before this soup is ready - otherwise meat is too dry and chewy.
    Love your videos, BTW, so... serene, unrushed and peaceful.

      @@Swedwoods You had at a guess, two halves of a full size Polish Lavvu, one half you wore the other you rolled and packed. You have one or two Reindeer skins rolled, a sleeping bag (not specified), tent pegs, a big cooking pot and your kettle, a folding saw, a rolled up saw blade your knife and an Axe a Chicken, a piece of steak and some noodles and I guess coffee and the clothes on your back - no spare clothes? Plus a water canteen as your water up there is mostly pure anyway.
      I wouldn't risk at my age going out in such cold weather with so little kit and is why I have problems trying to pack it all. I'm just really interested in what outdoors folk decide what they need, how they pack their load out and how heavy it is to carry.

    • @Swedwoods
      @Swedwoods  3 роки тому +3

      Yes key here is a good compression sack for the sleeping bag and carrying shelter part on me, and outside the bag together with the reindeer skin and axe. The rest is just small lightweight items inside the pack. I had spare clothes, wool sweater etc. With some will I could have put some more food under the lid but then I would change pack instead, not because of space but due to weight.

    Bushcraft is a skillset. It's not mandatory as a bushcrafter to go naked to the woods and trying to survive. To do that every week is a unrealistic fantasy. The way I see it, bushcraft skills make hiking and camping more efficient, lightweight and interesting... and not to forget FUN!.
