  • Ok I got this "Universal" fog light kit off of eBay a few years ago, figured I'd go over the basic wiring on how to wire it on about any vehicle and explain the way it works. Sometimes you learn more by being able to see what is going on than trying to wing it.
    eBay link for this model:

Not all are "exactly" the same but the principle behind how to wire is. If you have bought a "brand specific" like a "Jeep" or "Dodge" follow those directions they probably have a specific harness to use.

I just wanna say.. thank you so much for this video. I was struggling with installation and other videos were unhelpful or incomplete. I followed your guide and the fog lights work great now 👍 cheers

    thank you for this!
if i have an aftermarket fog light kit with the wiring and all, and i decided to go with 150wat led lights, do i have replace the wires with thicker awg wires to support the power draw?

Look at that chart, that will help you pick the correct size wire. To figure your "amperage" you divide the wattage by the voltage. So your case you have 150w lights divided by 12 (Technically you are running over 14v while running). Some vehicles now use 24v systems, but most are still 12v. Sorry I digress... So 150/12=12.5 Amps..... So unless you are running from the front to the back of the vehicle, a 16 Gauge wire should be sufficient. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

If my car has integrated fog lights in my headlights am I able to just buy an extension cable or hid kit?

Should be able to extend them, would come on with the integrated ones at the same time, if you wanted to run them separate would need to wire in a switch somewhere.

The red wire has to be connected to an ignition wire because I don't want to touch a wire. I can't put it to the positive of the battery

It will work but may not be as bright. The reason it is there is so it can draw full power from the battery. The alternator keeps the vehicle running and charges the battery while its running. If you draw your main power from a key on, depending on where you pull it from you may have less power on that line, cause the light to pulse or just be dim not to mention whatever you are drawing power from will now have to support the extra load from the lights which may overload the circuit and pop a fuse or cause other damage. If you do it, just keep an eye on it when you first turn it on... Thanks for watching.

I followed yours steps and the light do come on but is it ok for the light on the switch button stay on? Because mind stay on like yours in the video

I did that a while back, but did you catch the part where one of the wires goes to a key on accessory? One is to the battery for constant power, the other should be key on so it only comes on when you turn on the ignition like the radio, or any other source that is only powered when you want to drive. Hopefully that helps you out.

@@RagerJackOfAll yes my wire set up just like yours and the wire where you said to for the switch inside the vehicle to connect to either Head light fuse or battery fuse. I connected it on my fog fuse which my vehicle comes with a fuse for installing for fog light. I did follow all the step as which I watched it multiple times to understand.

@@RagerJackOfAll I try other wires to connect especially the wire from the light switch on the steering wheel while it just leaves the switch light on not the actual fog light
