      Yeah, i was quite skeptical about the game, but after seeing the gameplay, even if its just an early version of the game, i do feel like the gameplay is something id enjoy.

    I'm ready to see this game get more units, maps, and factions. The fundamentals are there but it feels a little threadbare

    Watching this as someone who doesn't have access to the closed beta, I wonder if the vanguard players could have done better in these games if they leveraged the hedgehogs to strengthen their econ. I notice there's a period of the early-mid game where the infernal player turtles up and the vanguard has their hedgehogs pressuring the enemy base, looking for an opening. Rather than trying to snipe shroud stones, maybe the vanguard player could split off a portion of their hedgehogs to kill creeps and expand faster.
    It's funny to watch the hedgehogs because in one respect their dps is very high against buildings *while* they have rockets. But the need to replenish rockets actually makes it take a long time for them to work through the buildings. So the infernal player is able to arbitrarily stall the hedgehogs with a few shroud stones and meat farms and make sure the hedgehogs never get to snipe the important structures.
    edit: I see artosis makes the same suggestion in game 2 lol

      I think the problem is infernals just get eco faster, forcing the Vanguard to do damage or lose. Also fiends are broken :)

      Agreed. There is a point at which the pain point of Hedgehogs (their ability to fight straight-up) overcomes the benefits of their higher movementSpeed. Figuring out what to do in the transition should be the focus of Vanguard non-mirror improvement.

      i tried every kind of hog opening but no, you can not slowdown the infernal eco. The best you can do is turtle and survive until you get your death ballarmy but good inf players will just destroy you on the way due to them having superior eco. I was in top 100 in the last beta when it finished

      I think vanguard shouldn't make as many hedgehods as we see, so you can transition into lancer/vulcan or exo/medtech. I think these compositions should fare better. maybe even send hedgehogs to death so you can kill a few extra workers in the time between

      @@ProkillerTr856 forcing static D is slowing down their eco. The income drains from making military forces is replaced with buildings for survival, delaying the push of the main army.

    Hedgehog pressure backed by the repair turret is a pretty cool strategy, and it adds some real tension to force out the Fiends earlier than the Infernal player would want to. I wonder if the repair turret should be way farther back, though.
    Thanks so much for these series, it was great to see a bit more variety despite the limitations of the last Closed Beta. Looking forward to the next one soon.

    I'd like to see Vanguard players try building less hedgehogs or even skipping mech-bay entirely in their opener. They are strong for early harass, but once Infernal gets their shroudstones up it seems like a complete waste of resources to keep spamming hedgehogs trying to break through the static D. They are very very weak to Fiend spam which seems to be the dominant strategy for Infernal and they will not be able to defend your base in the mid-game.

      dude there is no counter to fiend spam since the bases are so far away, and the counter to the fiends is so slow. So whenever you have your slow army of mass lancers and vulcans at one base, all the enemy has to do is to attack a different base, and fiends trade to well against even vulcans that you cant allow to split your army and be fine. Fiends need ot be nerfed or vanguard will nevver win a single game vs a decent infernal player.

      Just wait till you see maru or like snow with hedgehogs. They just looked bad cause partings a way better rts player.

      What about having 1 Atlas mixed with your Hedgehogs early, anticipating early Shroudstones. Get some long-range siege damage to force fights. I mean, how many brutes worth of fiends do you have to kill in the subsequent counter-attack to justify an Atlas? Especially when you can fire from behind a big treeline onto the Shroudstones, seems like a gap that could be exploited.

    I'd defs like the draining health for fiends to be more impactful, I think it should really feel like a time limit, at the moment they can stand around and then attack later. I looked as though Parting never really had any reason to keep them as brute or even just micro them splitting as they die, just better to turn them into fiends and swarm like zerglings.

    What quality level is the game running at? It kind of looks worse than brood war when it comes to clarity and the shadows/terrain looks very blurry. This really has to be improved for it to be a good game for viewers.

      It was recorded with a potato. The game itself is much clearer than this.

    Although Parting plays well and most likely better than Azure, Infernal is the stronger race for sure. My prediction is both white health and Fiend speed get nurfed.

      Fiends definitely seem a bit overtuned. Probably not by much, because sometimes they just get killed, but it feels like the amount of damage pressure from them is pretty insane. They're like cracklings with no upgrades required.

      How about just bumping the cost of the brute a bit? Fiends are a cool concept and the "when should I split" could lead to interesting decision making, but only if it actually costs you.

      @@hakonmarcus Not saying its what they should do, but an idea I had was make the HP drain of Fiends off creep or w/e its called much more significant. Make it so if you split brutes off creep that you have to either A) have a doombringer to land and drop creep or B) make a decisive quick attack before the fiends die. Though increasing the HP drain is risky because then they'll die even faster on top of enemy DPS.
      Another idea would be giving the Fiends an enrage button? Effectively they attack slower/do less dmg normally but when they enrage their HP drain increases but so does their dmg. Would add an interesting trade off for the unit as if you enraged at the wrong time or prematurely you'd need to send your Fiends back to base or bring a doombringer to spreed creep so they can heal back up.

      Yeah.. the story character art on the loading screen look like OW knock off art ngl. It's all temporary so hopefully things look much nicer and have a better style but who knows. At the end of the day maybe 1% of the RTS population plays these games for the story in them. I love SC2's story but ultimately I love the competitiveness and gameplay first and foremost.

      @@YuYuYuna_ Yeah, for me most of the characters just look uninteresting. They're all either straight faced or do "heroic looks into the distance."
      Like eh...
      Also, I dunno, I feel differently. I think a campaign is very necessary to draw in casuals. More than any other type of game, RTS's can appear intimidating to newcomers. So a solid, fun, and good singleplayer story mode is a great way to ease casuals into the game.
      That's why I'm concerned... The campaign needs to be solid and the trailer and concept art isn't WOWing me.

    So far ive been seeing Fiends used to suicide into buildings. In army to army combat they seem pretty balanced, but perhaps they should do less damage to structures. Just my thoughts based on youtube observations, i havent touched the game yet

      They definitely need a hard nerf. IMO they should either have an enraged mechanic that serves as their primary source of damage, kind of like a frenzy mode where they attack or move faster and maybe do more damage. Think basic lings in SC2 vs lings with speed. The utility of lings in SC2 skyrocket when you have speed and without it they are still useful but significantly more manageable and kite-able.

      Terran from sc2 (and its successor the vanguard) has always been about getting the faction buffed until it can’t lose. In other words they play the game outside the matches. Every loss the vanguard suffers changes the perception on the balance so that they will be sufficiently buffed when important tournaments are held.

    Between Strormgate Zerospace and Immortal, Stormgate is the least interesting imo it really wants to be sc3 but on a warcraft map with league of legends art style. Zerospace looks by far the most fun and closest to being actually finished. And Immortal is easily the most creative visually and gameplay wise. Stormgate is just meh, good thing its free.

No one is sandbagging their performances in "for fun" tournaments and showmatches in a beta with the ultimate hail Mary goal of getting buffs due to your intentional skewing of the perception of balance. You act like the developers don't play their own game. If this was Blizzard I would give your theory some credit because that company just listens to whoever bitches the most and assumes they are telling the truth.

    Are fiends op? The corpses are cool but make hard to read battles. Also some vfx like the defensive cannon are waaaay too much and makes impossible to see what's going on. Also why cant we see resources and supply. Btw the minimap is impossible to read I have to zoom in to see whats going on. Anyway i cant wait to play😂

      @@peterlaanguila5098 Yes same, I was so hyped until I saw the gameplay. It’s a really weird mix of multiple RTS with comic graphics and very small units and buildings. It doesn’t have much deep thoughts. I like to control huge armies and not small units that you can’t even really see. I just hope for a SC3 at that point.

    I think the bob overcharge and the sheer amount of white health on imps is a bit too much. Makes economical harassment way too hard.

    Why is the quality of the Stormgate videos so poor? Is it just the game and art style itself that doesn't lend itself to streaming/recording or what? Feels like it's just very blurry compared to the other games you upload.

    Tempest Rising and Zerospace still looks better, but I Think this game is more fun to play than Watch. But I heard those cars Got changed? Because they looks really silly

    I really dislike the closed beta, a select few people get to figure out & shape a meta before most have even had a chance to try the game. It removes so much of that magic of a new RTS on launch.

      There is no „meta“. Balancing is still heavily going to change, there will be T3 Units added (currently on T1 and T2 units available) and even the resource collection rate might change. All you can take away from this beta is: Are the unit interactions fun? Is the game running smoothly? Is the overall impression of the game my kind of thing or not?

      Bruh it's literally in beta. There is every reason to expect a LOT of this to change either in part or entirely. Literally go look at Starcraft 2 beta showmatches casted by David Kim. They look and play night and day different from the 1.0 release of Wings of Liberty. Tons of units and abilities and structures were either entirely scrapped, reworked, or readjusted or redesigned.

    I think the devs miss the whole aspect of what makes these pro players/games fun to watch. Because when we play we wish we could be as good. We know how respectable what they are doing is but no one is really able to play its not the same

    Im going to steer away from the silly balance debate. Parting was allowed to expand at will and was simply more active on the map. If you gave parting the hedgehogs, that 4th never gets up.
    Hedgehogs are used mostly here as a defensive unit, but their role for harassment and expansion denial was neglected.
