Fantastic pickups. I've got this set in my SG Standard, with a coil tap. I use 12-54's, and the tones I get out of these pickups is amazing. Highly recommended to anyone out there.
A fantastic pickup combo. I have them in my Gibson SG, with a push/pull. Incredible tonal variety, as you can hear in this video. I play without a pick, so the slight brightness of the Jazz really works to keep the articulation. I'd recommend them to anyone, playing any style.
The SD JB/Jazz combo is so fantastic. The JB doesnt stop at "Hard Rock", you can go full Heavy Metal with it too. Just think that Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and countless other bands used this combo. Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz FTW!!!!
Just installed these on my Epi LP Custom and it seriously woke it up...especially the neck pup, its SO sweet now!! Could not be happier with these...highly recommend for versatile playing styles.
I have these pickups in a rubbish guitar running to a Marshall valvestate 30 watt. It blew me away, these pickups! Versatile in almost any genres and they pack a punch, too!
These are very versatile pick-ups. A great choice for all types of music. I'm getting a set for my Eppy Les Paul. and am looking foward to the upgrade! Cheers!
@16YearsInHell - The TB-4 is the trem-spaced version of the SH-4. "Trem-spaced" means that pole pieces are spaced properly for a guitar with a tremolo, as opposed to a hardtail. It could also be thought of as Fender spacing vs. Gibson spacing. The "n" at the end of the pickup model number indicates that it's intended to be a neck pickup. Seymour Duncan's site has all the info about every pickup they make, including sound samples. It's an excellent resource. Thanks! -PGS
I'm about to get these in my custom ordered carvin cs-6 flamed koa guitar! super stoked. not a huge fan of carvin pups, but I love their guitars more than anything!
I put a set of these with into my Epi Les Paul with an RS vintage wiring kit and got an entire different guitar out of it. I love these pickups. So much range and clarity compared to the stock Epi muckbuckers.
@kennytheamazing I am doing this to my Epi SG. Just upgrade the pots because the stock pots are pretty weak and you won't hear that much of a difference from the stock. At least that is what was recommended to me. I am throwing a 5 way switch into the package too, to get that split coil options. It is going to be the unassuming epi sg with swiss army capabilities.
@purplepineapple117 Yes, it can be done, no problem. I have an Epiphone that I changed the pickups on, and the pickups I put in were 4-conductor, but I don't have any coil tap or splitting capabilities. It will work just fine, but you can always rewire things so you have the option.
I have this combo in my Ibby RGT42. My other RGT42 has a Full Shred (B) and a 59'er (N). That combo is smoking for anything! FYI, both are Mahogany bodies
recently loaded a SH-4 into my strat. all i can say is: holy shit! works great for anything from blues to trashmetal. i do like to pair it up with my single coil(i'm not using coil split) using the 2nd position on my pickup selector for realy nice clean tones.
I got the same guitar. Love Clean sounds, so Jazz Neck PU is my favorite. And, for the bridge, instead of the JB (wich is great for Rock sounds) I bought an Alnico II Pro, that is more scooped mids and got less output. For splitin coils and more, i´ll put the SD Triple Shot in each PU. Best wishes
For thrash you'd want scooped mids, high output. I recommend the dimebucker, screamin demon, full shred or the custom 5 in the bridge. Something clear and vintage sounding in the neck would balance your tone and preserve your guitar's versatility, so a jazz, seth lover, pearly gates, or 59 would all be fine choices. If you feel like using batteies for more power then yeah blackouts. There are sound bytes on duncan's site. check them all out and see what you like best if you haven't decided yet.
Blackouts for Active I would think is a good choice. If you don't want an active pickup or want something that is less wired, I go with some kind of Alnico pickup!
THANK YOU FOR DOING A REVIEW ON THIS! I've been wondering: I have an Epiphone Les Paul Custom with stock pickups, and I like the tone, but I want to see if the HRHS would be even better for my tone, to play, say, metal, or even hard rock or jazz. What should I do? Thanks.
I have this combo in a RG42DX, its nice and mellow. I don't know about metal, but its cool. i have a Full Shred and "59 in my other RG42DXFM and that is killer.
The main difference is that SH-5 has a Ceramic magnet and the SH-4 has an Alnico V which sounds warmer. Shoot us an email for pickup suggestions. info@proguitarshop(DOT)com thx
Do you think you could do a review of the '59 vintage blues set? I haven't been able to find a quality review of them and I'm sure Andy would do a great job
because I wanted to change the pickup to my traditional, which features the 57 'classic's, with the Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 pro, I wanted to know if I made a good buy or not I ought to
Andy, i've had the jb/59 in my les paul for years. looking into a jb/jazz for another one i just bought, but am concerned about the fact that apparently there's a noticeable volume difference between the two pickups. could you verify that for me??
I've been wanting to get this set on my Epiphone Les Paul custom, but I can't decide on a style to compliment the silverburst finish. Should I stick with chrome (which is what the stock pickups have now) or black? Maybe zebra to compliment the creme binding? I'm just looking for opinions. Thanks :)
will this combination definitely improve the sound of my les paul standard? I kinda feel like there's something missing, but am afraid of wasting money on something that wont really change much. I'm officially a strat player, and not too knowledgeable when it comes to les pauls, all i can say is, my hss deluxe strat just has a much fuller bridge pickup. I'd really appreciate the help louis.
"Jeff Beck" Heavy wound pickups from Lonnie Mack's original PAFs from his flying Vee by Seymour Duncan when working in England...for Jeff Becks Tele Gib guitar...
Still about 1/4 the price too. Throw an A8 in the bridge and an A4 in the neck and they would make you wonder why you would rather spend soooo much more for what. I'd like to hear a demo of these through the Humboldt Hot Rod.
sorry i dont know to much of seymour duncan but i hear they are awesome so, which pickups if best for have a power distorcion and a good clean sound ? i hope you can help me thanks
@Blowmint These come as stock in the DK2M, I just got mine a few days ago :) I love the JB, hot rodded a cheap strat with one last year and loved it then, still love it in my new Jackson. As for the Jazz, I love it for cleans, it's a bit weak for the kind of leads I play (heavy metal) but clean-wise, I've never played a better neck humbucker :) hope I helped.
I know you guys don't make demos just because someone ask you to but could you demo the Seymour Duncan Sh-3 Stag Mag pickup seems like a really cool pickup and cool pickup set by the way
@ProGuitarShopDemos I've got a TB-4 lying around here. I don't know much about "trem-spaced" stuff. But do you mean the TB-4 is just like an SH-4 but trem-spaced. (and what exactly is "trem-spaced") I also got an SH-2n is there a difference with an SH-2 without that last 'n'? Because I don't really find much about it. Thanks for your time. You guys make great reviews and it's the first time I see your face in stead of only hearing your voice in a video :O
i would go with an invador, synister gates uses it in his custom guitar and it sounds good. for the neck i would go with an SH-1 '59 model but not me im getting the dean signature MAB hands without shadows if it is the price though that alters your decision most, then you might as well go with the Hot Rodded Humbuckers
Hey, I own an ESP Horizon which comes with a Sh1(neck) and a TB4 (bridge). I play Pantera with it but the TB4 is sometimes too ..smooth. You can play powerful rock music, heavy metal, but I don't think it's the best pickup for this, in my opinion.
hey dude, that is exactly the pickup combination I'm going for. I know all about the JB-8, but does the A4 in the neck help boost the output or fatten it up slightly? I'm hoping for a nice balance between the pickups..
I love the JB, it is my all time favorite higher output model. not real crazy over the jazz, it is a bit too neat and bright, i prefer a warmer tone in the neck like the air norton
Looking change up my main guitar tone. I play through a Peavey Classic 50 with the basic pedal configuration. Stuck on Jb/jazz or Super Distortion/Paf(dp103). I mainly play aggressive rock 'n roll. Any suggestions?
I've bought a lot of these sets and the only complaint I've had with is they are evidently designed only for non-trem guitars because they don't offer the JB in a trem spaced in the set. All of them are standard spaced.
Im planning on getting a new Ibanez RG1550m (basswood bod, maple neck) and intend to replace the stock pickups and was wondering if this set is suitable for the guitar, or should i look at a Dimarzio set instead?
If the pickup has a 4 lead wire, can you connect it to a guitar without coil tap or anything that splits it? A guitar that's stock pickups are 2 lead wire not 4.
We have an Epi LP around the shop which has the Hot Rodded set and it made a huge improvement.
This is one of the best Seymour Duncan reviews on UA-cam and your playing was great.
Fantastic pickups. I've got this set in my SG Standard, with a coil tap. I use 12-54's, and the tones I get out of these pickups is amazing. Highly recommended to anyone out there.

I have these pickups in a rubbish guitar running to a Marshall valvestate 30 watt.
It blew me away, these pickups! Versatile in almost any genres and they pack a punch, too!
The pickups themselves are hum free. It sounds like a ground wire issue, despite your shielding.
These are very versatile pick-ups. A great choice for all types of music. I'm getting a set for my Eppy Les Paul. and am looking foward to the upgrade! Cheers!
greatest thumb in the history of youtube
i have the JB/Jazz combo in my Les Paul.
I LOVE IT!!!

Just had a SD Pearly Gates SHPG-1 fitted to my Ibanez AS73-TCR. LOVE IT!!!!
Everything sounds good in combo with this guitar and amp
sweet, I'm sold...I will be picking these up tomorrow. Thanks!
Best reviews on UA-cam. THANKS!!!
Seymour Duncan's are the best. I just ordered a pair of Antiquity IIs for my Jazzmaster....cant wait!
that coil split JB tone is amazing on a les paul
Love that big sound.
love the jazz tone-sweeeeeeeeet!!
Go Andy! Versatile playing!
I'm about to get these in my custom ordered carvin cs-6 flamed koa guitar! super stoked. not a huge fan of carvin pups, but I love their guitars more than anything!
Awesome. id like to see more pickup reviews. very helpful
Massive sound!
I put a set of these with into my Epi Les Paul with an RS vintage wiring kit and got an entire different guitar out of it. I love these pickups. So much range and clarity compared to the stock Epi muckbuckers.
I always wondered why you never did pickup demos. Great demo!
@kennytheamazing I am doing this to my Epi SG. Just upgrade the pots because the stock pots are pretty weak and you won't hear that much of a difference from the stock. At least that is what was recommended to me. I am throwing a 5 way switch into the package too, to get that split coil options. It is going to be the unassuming epi sg with swiss army capabilities.
i think i made the right choice when i replaced the old pickups with these on my epiphone. my guitar should be ready tomorrow :)
@purplepineapple117
Yes, it can be done, no problem. I have an Epiphone that I changed the pickups on, and the pickups I put in were 4-conductor, but I don't have any coil tap or splitting capabilities. It will work just fine, but you can always rewire things so you have the option.
beautifool sound!!!!!!!
Seymour Duncans Rule!
ive got an SH-5 in my g-400. a little brittle on the higger strings, but awesome for chugging chords and riffing.
I have this combo in my Ibby RGT42. My other RGT42 has a Full Shred (B) and a 59'er (N). That combo is smoking for anything! FYI, both are Mahogany bodies
holy crap andy can really play anything!!! hes awesome haha !!!

Best wishes
that is a beautiful guitar

man that Jazzy riff hit the Spppooooottt ;)
A lot of people use a push-pull pot for coil-splitting, so you pull up the tone knob and it'll split the coil.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH
AAHHHH!!!!!!
Blackouts for Active I would think is a good choice. If you don't want an active pickup or want something that is less wired, I go with some kind of Alnico pickup!

I wanna see more jazz from andy
Do you think you could do a review of the '59 vintage blues set? I haven't been able to find a quality review of them and I'm sure Andy would do a great job
@dimeguyblade
If you use a push/pull pot you can split the coil and basically have a single coil sound.
because I wanted to change the pickup to my traditional, which features the 57 'classic's, with the Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 pro, I wanted to know if I made a good buy or not I ought to
I want this set, for my Epi. Custom!
I'm thinking about buying these,in green colour
@FLAMINGSTRINGZ Not necessarily. Only if your guitar is wired that way. Normal middle position in a Les Paul is not coil split, I think.
Hey andy! your'e a guitar tone genious!, man, do you think these pickups can make a p-90 sound with the S.duncan triple shot mounting rings?
Andy, i've had the jb/59 in my les paul for years. looking into a jb/jazz for another one i just bought, but am concerned about the fact that apparently there's a noticeable volume difference between the two pickups. could you verify that for me??
@4JayeP yeah they still make them just check thier website
I've been wanting to get this set on my Epiphone Les Paul custom, but I can't decide on a style to compliment the silverburst finish. Should I stick with chrome (which is what the stock pickups have now) or black? Maybe zebra to compliment the creme binding? I'm just looking for opinions. Thanks :)
Very cool Andy! So many tone options. Was this demo just through the DRRI with no pedals?
Hahaha awesome to see you throw in Karma Police, once again another nice nod to Radiohead there Andy.
great amp
This. The Blues set is good for blues and classic rock, this is good for blues, classic rock, punk, shred, and metal.
@ZOMGdonuts Assuming you don't cut too much of the leads/wires, yes.
It says the website in the description. It isn't a hyperlink but it is there. And he even says "Hi, I'm Andy from proguitarshop dot ..."
SEYMOUR DUNCAN = THE BEAST PICKUPS EVER!
will this combination definitely improve the sound of my les paul standard? I kinda feel like there's something missing, but am afraid of wasting money on something that wont really change much. louis.
I had a JB in my Tokai Les Paul.
Like in the video I experienced the tone as a bit on the muddy side. But maybe I'm more a singlecoil guy.
Greets
"Jeff Beck" Heavy wound pickups from Lonnie Mack's original PAFs from his flying Vee by Seymour Duncan when working in England...for Jeff Becks Tele Gib guitar...
A quick question, if I install these in my guitar; can I take them out and reuse them in a different guitar?
i'm confused... how do you control the coil-splitting? with the tone knob or something?
Still about 1/4 the price too. Throw an A8 in the bridge and an A4 in the neck and they would make you wonder why you would rather spend soooo much more for what. I'd like to hear a demo of these through the Humboldt Hot Rod.
@dacuriel its good, but metal require active pickups like EMG's or Blackouts by SD. the invader is also good
@ralfcaetano black and cream, the ones with the white bobbins are special order
Dimebuckers are really good for metal as well
@augusrockhouse23 Of course they would!
@inhuman96 Alnico 2 pro (Original or Slash models) or Blackouts you should check out the duncam website to check out all duncan's pickups
sorry i dont know to much of seymour duncan but i hear they are awesome so, which pickups if best for have a power distorcion and a good clean sound ? i hope you can help me thanks

Try the Invader. I use it on my start and its great.
I know you guys don't make demos just because someone ask you to but could you demo the Seymour Duncan Sh-3 Stag Mag pickup seems like a really cool pickup
and cool pickup set by the way
where is the switch for splitting the humbuckers?
i have an ESP LTD EC 50 and i was thinking of putting this humbuckers on it what do you think? any recomendation?
you should made more vids like this :) for strat also!
I wanna get these for my Epiphone SG special :D
Good idea, no? The set seems pretty affordable to me.
@ProGuitarShopDemos I've got a TB-4 lying around here. I don't know much about "trem-spaced" stuff. But do you mean the TB-4 is just like an SH-4 but trem-spaced. (and what exactly is "trem-spaced")

you should make a demo on the Full Shred Pickups SH-10 TB-10 :D
2:49 That's Karma Police:D
@ProGuitarShopDemos what marshall head do you use? i'd also like to ask what potentiometer do someone need for theese pickups
i would go with an invador, synister gates uses it in his custom guitar and it sounds good.
for the neck i would go with an SH-1 '59 model
but not me im getting the dean signature MAB hands without shadows
if it is the price though that alters your decision most, then you might as well go with the Hot Rodded Humbuckers

I have a JB Pickups for my stratocaster is nice sound on it I luv Seymour Duncan pickups I have Zebra pickups
These versus the Slash pickups? Please respond...I play rock and blues through a Les Paul and Marahall amp
I've bought a lot of these sets and the only complaint I've had with is they are evidently designed only for non-trem guitars because they don't offer the JB in a trem spaced in the set. All of them are standard spaced.
Would I notice the difference between these and Epiphone Les Paul Custom stock pickups?
Im planning on getting a new Ibanez RG1550m (basswood bod, maple neck) and intend to replace the stock pickups and was wondering if this set is suitable for the guitar, or should i look at a Dimarzio set instead?

What pickup do you recomend for Metal style ?
thanks :)
@JedifuzzMojo How exactly do u activate the push pull pots once there installed?
how do you coil split
