I'm from Moscow. My biggest memory with those is going on a school trip to Pertozavodsk (where these ships also cruise) and puking my entire breakfast out on what happened to be the worst storm the ship's gotten into since 10 years.
We had those as regular means of transportation from 60s to mid 90s and it was great. You would not feel any waves as the hydro foil would compensate it and the time it would take from one point to another is simular to a bus a or a train but rather in a straight line and romantic feeling.
Great video......went on a 1983-built Meteor in 2008 from Peterhof back to the city during a tour on our Baltic cruise. The Mrs wasn't impressed with the immaculately maintained craft at all, I absolutely loved it!! On the open deck I managed to lift up a small hinged cover on the floor and peer down into the engine room....they are 12-cyl Zvezda M400 units in most of these craft. Thanks for sharing!
in Russia they are still being produced, already new upgraded versions, less noise, better and more comfortable, more economical. Moreover, the fleet of hydrofoils is being updated, there is a Valdai 45R for 45 seats, there is a Meteor 120R for 120 seats, a Comet 120M ua-cam.com/video/AcH48B4C0_M/v-deo.html
They run the exact same ones in Vietnam between Ho Chi Min and Vung Tau. Absolutely rotten on the topsides, you could poke your finger through the superstructure.

Хорошее видио, сам с 1985 по 1992 работал на метеоре на Амуре

You're right; they are so smooth.

Прекрасный метеор

Andy Preston Wow - thanks for your comments. So pleased that you enjoyed the video 😀
+Andy Preston It surprises me that we don't see these vessels more in the West. Surely there must be places where a rapid shuttle would be useful?
Please watch ua-cam.com/video/LGncZz9Mxak/v-deo.html.
I was just wondering what engines it hand and you answered that right away, thanks.
Разобрал только Санкт-Петербург, Петергоф)) Но видео прикольное))

:)
It made of alluminum, how come it rots?
@@iam8401 aluminium does corrode, it oxidises but much slower than steel.
@@davidmccutcheon4867 Yes, but it is very easy to replace those board panels, no need to order them from Russia.
We are ready Have this in Hong Kong
They're great, aren't they?
@@dwfletch yes
@@dwfletch but only to Macau
@@dwfletch I just found out they’re jetfoils
they are using them in Vietnam

It works fine for me. I hope it will start working for you.
elex plus

Do these ships have restrooms?
Sorry, Richard, I can't remember any more.
Sure, same as in planes
Bring a few over from Russia to the Chesapeake for an Annapolis to a Rock Hall to Baltimore route
It would certainly make it faster to get from BWI to Rock Hall 🙂
the US and Canada use to import them in 1970s. I don't think Russians make them anymore
