- Sun's out, sky's blue, it's spring in Seoul and time to shoot some street photography. For this mission we head to Daerim, a bustling little neighbourhood south of the river with a hodge podge of markets, factories and high-rises.
*My Korean is not super good. I've done my best with the translations in the captions, but if you notice anything egregious, please let me know and I'll be sure to adjust it. Thanks!

These Seoul pov videos are so interesting, very fun to watch, I like your banter with locals and photos
there is so much effort behind these videos u should get some more recognition
Thanks Paul:-) Internet fame here I come haha
Dang, your ppl skills is crazy good. Love the photos
Cheers! People are usually pretty friendly:-) I just focus on the receptive ones~
This is dope fam! I needed this inspo. Currently living in Korea and its been hard catching my groove coming from nyc. It really helps that you speak Korean. I speak so little that it shows it my photography. Yours is very intimate. Keep it up bro, awesome work
Thank you! Stoked you enjoyed it. Korea’s a great place for photography, it’ll come together:-)
This video shows Korea and Koreans as raw as they are. It's really interesting.
how come they're so welcoming, great work.
I just try to focus on the people that are receptive. It makes the whole thing more enjoyable:-)
loved every second of this video! and that cup of coffee gesture with the workers was a sweet moment lol
Wow such a nice pic!! Also korean pronunciation so awesome👍
Nice work keep it up👋
Really nice Chrid. Heart warming stuff.
Keeping it loose and light~
Amazing work, the way you interact and talk with people before photographing them really makes a difference. I can't imagine getting access to personal locations like this.
I'm planning a visit to Korea later this year but don't speak the language, do you think most people in public spaces would speak out against having their photo taken? I'm used to being discreet if I can get away with it but also want to avoid stepping out of line with the culture if possible
Thank you! I recommend just being friendly and open about taking pictures. If anyone is bothered it’s usually best to respect that and focus more on those receptive to it.
It’s also worth speaking to people in English! You’ll be surprised by how friendly and engaging people can be:-)
Cool. Keep doing!!!!
재밌게 잘 봤습니다
Bro i love it
Cheers for watching homie!
Lol Albert cameo for the win XD
I started with that and built the video backwards
당신의 사진과 영상 참 좋네요. 그리고 사람들과 대화하며 사진을 찍는 모습이 참 보기 좋습니다. :)
재미있게 봐주셔서 감사합니다^^
Enjoyed your POV video. I lived and worked in Korea for many years, haven't done any POV videos yet but I've posted dozens of video slide shows of my Korean images.
Keep up the great work, by the way your Korean is very good, I studied Korean at DLIFLC and at Yonsei University, but my speaking is not nearly as good as yours.
Thanks Herbert! Korea’s a great place to shoot photos.
@@chrisdacanha Yes it is, I'll be back for a visit to our relatives next year, keep up the great work!!!
Stunning work! I have one question: Should I always bring a GoPro to record their consent while doing street photography in Korea to avoid legal problems later?
I don’t think so, but for questions of this nature it’s best to have a look at an official source.
Cool ! Friendly faces on that day :)
Niceeee man Daerim is one of the places where I'm eager to shoot in but at the same time kind of afraid to visit 😅😅 What are the next candidates for your future street series?
Nothing to be scared of there! If you go in positively, people normally respond well:-) I haven’t decided on the next spot, but maybe 성수, one of the streams, or an area I’ve never been to before. Got any suggestions?
@@chrisdacanha If you want to continue exploring mechanical workshops or narrow alleys I would suggest 문래동 or 창신동, very similar to euljiro. Yeji-dong clock street (right next to sewoon arcade) would have been a nice candidate as well but its now fenced off because of redevelopment 😢
@@vesper_ohaiz 창신 and 문래 are great. I don’t really know Yeji-dong, so maybe I’ll see what I can make of the development. Thanks!
Hi Chris, I really enjoyed your watching your POV walk through the neighborhood. I want to travel to Korea sometime, but I keep reading that photographing people w/o consent is illegal there, yet clearly, plenty of candid street photos exist. Would you be able to clarify the legal situation of street photography in SK? Much thanks.
Hi there~ For a specific legal answer I think it’s best to contact an official source. My advice regarding candid photography in Korea is to be polite and be mindful of what images you share. Try not to be inappropriate or harmful:-)
Subscribed to your channel, im planning to buy a7iv and try to do what u are doing. I work in korea around paju. But im not good in korean.
Great! Don't worry about the Korean. Just be polite and friendly and that'll go a long way. Oh, and only shoot where you're welcome:-) Good luck!
Daerim area is the biggest China town in Seoul. Majority of the population are Chinese or Korean-Chinese.
why is the Mirrorless so close to the POV cam?
I prefer the POV cam mounted to the mirrorless. Check out the documentary War Photographer for an early example of it done well.
