- Hello and welcome to my channel!
In today's video, I want to challenge myself to only have 100 items hanging up on my side of the closet. My husband's side, well, that is a different story.
Many of you saw my friend's closet - • SO MANY SHOES, PURSES ...
and just so you know, we have the same floor plan and therefore, the same closet.
Check out how I organize mine! You will be shocked to see how many hangers I actually wind up using.
Also, if we can get this video to over 1000 LIKES, the hubby may be motivated enough to let some things go. To be fair, he inherited his father's clothes when he passed so some of what he has is not only practical but also sentimental. Let's see if we can get him motivated to make a change!
My name is Theresa and I am a Professional Organizer that just loves to clean, tidy, organize & declutter! I am an (almost) empty-nester, my youngest son is in college and my daughter is in her mid-20's and the most awesome Special Needs kid you will ever meet. You may see her oftentimes in these videos because she loves to organize as well! I also have a husband, Keith, who has more of a hoarding tendency but I give him kudos for trying to keep up with my need to tidy!

I like your husband's side 🤣
May I make a suggestion? Next time you have clothes/ shoes to donate, will you consider donating to a shelter. Those men and women usually arrive without the finances to purchase clothes and shoes and the shelters seek to clothe them with donations. They don’t have to pay the shelter (like they would a Goodwill) for clothing. Just a thought.
The ones I don’t get cash for will now go to my local shelter near Charlotte, NC. Thank you for the suggestion!

Church clothes closet are a great place to donate clothing too. You motivated me to get rid of more and donate myself. Love the 100 hanger idea !

You did so awesome Theresa. I've been decluttering over the last two years. I'm a clothes junkie for sure. I've got down to 22 pairs of shoes this time round.
It’s hard for me
I did a large organization of my closet, I have the flat velvet hangers, used to get them on HSN but they also have them at many places now, saves so much room. No hanger marks on clothes, liked the finished look!
Yes. Even Walmart have them now
You should get several hat boxes from Ross to put your hats in for more room and to use those hanging organizers for something else. Make room and utilize the space that you have.

You're so right that the number of items and what minimal means is different to each person! I have a dozen pairs of shoes and don't consider myself a minimalist, but for you, 25 pairs is minimal and that is totally cool.

I love how you have all your shoes in those boxes, they are all in the same location, and you can go right to your foot-wear and easily find what you want.

So great that you share this! My husband isn’t a hoarder but he doesn’t get rid of his items 😅. Since we moved we are sharing a wardrobe and I just get overwhelmed by seeing al the stuff

He always looked at my side of the closet or my dresser and said how neat it looked. About six months into relationship, he was on board.

Dollar Tree has vacuum bags in their closet items area which you can vacuum the sentimental items. The vacuum bags are like the ones used for clothes when traveling.
I have some of those. I love them! Good idea!
Have you thought about putting the sunglasses in one of the dresser drawers? You have an empty one or maybe you can combine your socks and underwear into one drawer and use the top. Great job and good luck getting your husband on board!

You are so neat the dresser is a nice addition to the closet. Have had those space saving hangers. ROSS has a great selection. I have those and still unorganized. Wish you were closer and my good friend.

Great idea for sunglasses. I am a sunglass junky. Motivation is what I need. I have not bagged my things yet.
I mean this in the nicest way your husband is not a hoarder having stuff doesn't make people Hoarders a lot of Hoarders have trash and they've been through some sort of traumatic incident that they start holding on to everything and overtime they just start not knowing how to let go because something they've lost something great in their life and I applaud you both cuz I thought your closet look great in the before

You could have him a blanket or quilt made with his dads shirts. That way he can still have them and the closet not be so full.

The ones that had smaller ones were put into the larger ones. I have too many suitcases. Lol.

I donate to Goodwill and a food bank. The food bank takes the clothes that people donate and give the clothes for free to people who can't afford to buy clothes.
You could consider chalk painting your dresser to give the closet a color lift...as well as painting the closet walls !
Oh snap, if your husband is a hoarder I'm in trouble 🤣. I probably have the same amount of clothes as him lol

Great job on your side! I have never seen a man have so many clothes!? Try to talk your husband into down sizing? He has enough shirts that it would take him three years to wear each one once ! Lol
We are working on it. I think part of the problem is that she me belonged to his deceased father so they are sentimental. I may have to work on those last. Lol.
My husband is the same way. Anytime we clean out our closet I get rid of a huge trash bag or two full of clothes and he gets rid of like 3 shirts 🙄🤣

Was hoping for a few more really minimalist wardrobe tips so am slightly disappointed if honest. When you opened the wardrobe I thought you must be the hoarder and not the minimalist. Your final result after decluttering is what I started with before decluttering. I am now probably around half of that but still feeling I need to remove more and certainly don't feel I can call myself a minimalist yet. Would be good to see how you are with this in a couple of years time, whether you stick with this amounts of items, fill back up or reduce further. I will check back in at some point.
I am "the minimalist" in my household but am working my way down. Going down to under 100 hangers (and winding up with 60) was a win for me. Maybe I can go through it again later this year and whittle down some more. That being said, I personally, don't judge how much of a minimalist someone is by the amount they wind up with if they happen to wind up with less than they started with. It's all a personal process. Have a great New Year.
Minimalism isn't so much the number but how you appreciate your things. If you have a reasonable use for every article that you own then you are a minimalist. She loves her clothes and uses them all. Maybe over time she will decide to decipher further, but why declutter what you use and love? That's just wasteful
I love the chest of drawers
In my experience velvet hangers break easily and often; not worth it.
I have had mine for more than 2 years and have not had an issue. Trick is that you cannot just pull your clothes off the hanger while hanging, if you remove the hanger from the rod before removing your clothes they last a long long time.
Try the Joy Mangano Huggable Hangers. I haven’t broken one in five years.

I have an armoire in my bedroom that holds my purses. It’s easier that way. 😄
MEN DOESN'T WANT A GIVE ANYTHING. BUT CLOTHES CAKETS PANTS MODELS GETTINGS OLD THAT TIME TO LATE THE GIVE UP, WHEN SHOUSE GETTING OLD YOU CANT WEAR, IT WILL NOT CAMFORTABLE.
