I have given my adult children almost two years to come and get what they want from their own bedrooms. They each have homes and I'm tired of being the Mom's Storage Company!!!
@@jobellecollie7139 My mom moved herself, so we had no choice then to select what we need. But I get that would be kind of a drastic solution :D Maybe do something with the rooms where it is stored? Tell your kids you are changing the rooms to a dressing, reading room... This way they have to get there stuff :)
Just give adult kids a timeframe. After X date, you will get rid of stuff. Don’t let them control your space and sanity. My mom recently did a big purge and constantly group texts me and my siblings pictures of items we can claim. If we don’t claim them in a day or so, she sells them on Facebook Marketplace. We’re all grown and have kids of our own, so if we can’t get our acts together to pick up free stuff, that’s on us.
In the past 6 years we have moved 8 times. We have been in our current home for 2 years, so those moves all took place within 4 years. We had a bunch of stuff in storage for the 1st 3 moves, got rid of a lot of stuff and eliminated storage over the next 3 moves, slowly started collecting more stuff after the 7 th move. Since our 8th move, it’s been kind of ridiculous. We will move again hopefully this summer, hopefully for the last time. I want to purge like crazy before that one. My life and mind feel as cluttered as my house.
I was gonna buy a new wardrobe then I saw your videos and channel, I declutter my stuff in my room, now I am feeling more peaceful and I didnt buy a new wardrobe because I didnt need it. I am becoming inspired by you! Thanks a lot! Greetings from Turkey!
That’s amazing! I’m so happy that you’re finding peace amongst what you have in your room. This is such a beautiful comment, thank you so much for sharing 🤍😊👏🏼
This declutter was SO challenging but also very eye-opening! Even though I was "forced" to let go of 90% of our stuff, the process felt more enlightening rather than stressful. I really hope you guys enjoy this video as much as I do! I can't wait to bring you along into this next chapter in my life! There's so much more in store. 🥰So much love to you!!!
I'd love to get rid of 90% of the stuff in my home but since 3 adult children and my grandson live with me and a granddaughter arriving in March, 90% of the stuff probably doesn't belong to me.
@@angelascott8173 I watched a decluttering video recently that said you can't force the people you live with to declutter (or, you really shouldn't lol) but you should still declutter everything that belongs to you. You can't change other people, but who knows.. maybe they'll be inspired by your minimalism and do the same with their own stuff! It's kind of freeing in my opinion. It doesn't matter what they do with their stuff. It's up to you to to do it with your own.
I also got rid of my yearbooks. People told me not to, but if there's anyone I want to look up a picture of or whatever I can look on social media. Seems silly to keep a book of people you don't talk to anymore.
THIS!!!! I’m so glad I’m not the only one that feels this way! 😂 I photocopied the pages with me on it and uploaded it to my external hard drive! That way I can still show my future kids if they ever want to see those photos. 🤷🏼♀️
me too! I graduated high school last year and everyone said I *needed* to buy the $55 book of pictures of people I dont see anymore, im so glad I didnt waste my money
You know I was struggling with yearbooks the other day while I was decluttering, but with this comment you convinced me that next time I go through the box they're in i will declutter and recycle them. Thank you. :)
This is an interesting idea. Maybe ontop of your photo, you can take pictures of some messages your dear friends wrote in the year book(if the person is still your friend today) just as a memory
About 13 years ago I helped a friend move house, she had tonnes of stuff, multiple trips. I remember saying "I'd love to be able to have nothing more than a car load to be able to move around freely." Fast forward and I've spent the past 2 years decluttering my own hoard of stuff! I never built up quite as much as she as I've not really ever been one for clothes and make-up etc. But in that time, unchecked a lot does build up. This lockdown had us taking a closer look at the belongings we actually used and freeing ourselves from anything we didn't.
It's my wardrobe which fills my closets. I used to have dinner parties and entertained quite a bit before retirement. Now I can't even give away all the things needed to host a party. Not the red plastic cup-type parties. I'm from an older age where this was more common.
I loved this video! My husband and I are moving in the summer and I’ve been decluttering soooo much. I get a lot of negative feedback from people who don’t understand minimalism, so I appreciate those little affirmations you put in the video. Have a safe and easy move!
You talking about your reasons for passing things on helped A LOT for my upcoming move! Also, going to be implementing the “zones” to keep me from getting distracted.
Also, once it is saved on the cloud you will always have it with you, no matter what gadget you upgrade to. I took pictures of some old photos and look at them more often than in the past.
"Nothing really matches.." and I was like, "What? Which room is she talking about? " lol Your interior sence absolutely matches the esthetics! Very beautiful.
I tore out all the pages in my year books that had value to me (with photos of myself or friends, or pages with messages from my friends) and then recycled the rest of the books. Definitely a good decision.
i wanted so too, but i couldn't get over it entirely so i cut out the pages that i thought were nice and tossed the rest, and whenever i'm ready to get rid of the remaining pages too, i will! wish me luck... :P

I got rid of my yearbooks about 20 years ago. I have missed them, maybe 3 times in all those years. Mostly, I'm just happy not to have to lug them around any longer. Most of those people I haven't seen since graduation. Those I'm still in touch with, well, they were good enough friends that we have pictures of things we did that were not from a yearbook.
Thank you for documenting so much of your decision process. Especially in the clothes. You have great style taste. Your furniture was elegant. Extra potato-ish" Yes yes, this feeling indeed
I want to move so so bad. I have been decluttering for probably 3 or 4 years. I don't mind going slow because I have changed so much with time and I have learned to let sentimental items go with that declutter mindset. I hope to move in a 2 to 3 years.
I am looking at moving soon and even though I have decluttered a few time, the potential new house is significantly smaller. This video was extremely helpful. Thank you/

I'm sorry but in my opinion, minimalism is not buying too much stuff unless you need it. For example you donated brushes and said that you'll buy new ones in Texas anyway. Or photo album. I know that they take up so many space buut they'll protect photos more affectively. Ooor chair. I think it looks lovely! Just sharing my thoughts please don't get offended :( ❤️
Oh congrats on moving soon too!!!! 🥳 Heck yes another Washingtonian! I’m originally from DuPont (Lakewood/Tacoma area) and then I’ve been living in Spokane for the last 6 years. I moved over here for school. 🥰
You're going to need to replace everything after the move? Was it more cost effective to do that? Thank you for documenting so much of your decision process. Especially in the clothes. You have great style taste. Your furniture was elegant.
Not right after the move! We are moving in with my parents for a few months so we literally won’t have the space. Most of the things we got for this place were built poorly and were SUPER cheap - to the point where I don’t think they would’ve lasted us more than two years. It’s most cost effective for us to try to recover some money from those things, save on storage costs, and invest in high-quality pieces when we do move into our own place. 🥰🤍
Yes! So beautifully said, It can be extremely healing. Letting go of material things to add more negative space into your home can really help reduce stress and mental clutter 🤍
Well this is right on time since I'm moving from Ohio to Texas next month and I'm getting rid of everything, but it's so much and I don't know where to start 😩
“Nothing matches” WHAT? My stuff doesn’t match. I have grey futons, a light wood tv stand and dark wood side table and black bookshelves in my living room. My place looks terrible. P.s I hope this didn’t offend you at all and I apologize in advance if it did.
Definitely didn’t offend me no worries!! 😂 I used to have a similar set up when we got into our first apartment. I hated it but I was also so grateful that most of it was free and handed down to us since we were basically broke. 😅
When my husband & moved across the country we packed as much of our stuff that would fit in our truck including our sons stuff. Talk about keeping only what's important. Lol
I have moved 3 times the last 3 years, and I think it is the 'easiest' way to become minimalistic :)

So true. Minimalism is not getting rid of stuff just to rebuy it. It's wasteful and privileged. Just keep the stuff you know'll you want to rebuy.
Love this! Moving soon so this is motivating! What part of Washington are you from? I’m in Washington🌲
Oh congrats on moving soon too!!!! 🥳 Heck yes another Washingtonian! I’m originally from DuPont (Lakewood/Tacoma area) and then I’ve been living in Spokane for the last 6 years. I moved over here for school. 🥰
Welcome to Texas! Its hot but you'll love it here!
Thank you!! I’ve been loving it so far 🥰🤍
Well now I just want to get rid of everything I own! Yay for moving to Texas! What area are you moving to? I’m in East TX.
!!! 😂 we are moving to Allen!! 😍
@@ReneaDominique, I see! Good sense!
Decluttering is healing for me…. The more u do it the easier it gets….
Yes! So beautifully said, It can be extremely healing. Letting go of material things to add more negative space into your home can really help reduce stress and mental clutter 🤍
Hello from Spokane small world😀 Are you in the Valley? I was gonna see what you have listed on Marketplace😀
I was eagerly waiting for this one! Thanks for sharing the process! 💕
Yesss!!! My internet was sooo slow getting this one published 😅😂
I really hope you find this helpful in some way!! 😊
P.s
I hope this didn’t offend you at all and I apologize in advance if it did.
Definitely didn’t offend me no worries!! 😂 I used to have a similar set up when we got into our first apartment. I hated it but I was also so grateful that most of it was free and handed down to us since we were basically broke. 😅
I only ever recieved 4 year books out of my all my years of school from preschool to senior year.
When my husband & moved across the country we packed as much of our stuff that would fit in our truck including our sons stuff. Talk about keeping only what's important. Lol
I love your quilt blanket 😊I got one almost like that for my puppy
Do you have a Depop or something where you’ll be selling your clothes? Great video, it was very inspirational!
