We did test this upper on the most gas setting. We done this because it was the best ejection and cyclic rate. POF believes this could have caused the upper to fail as quick as it did. We will be testing it again in the near future in normal gas setting.

Highest cyclic rate is, in any small arms application, the worst cyclic rate if you're already past 650rpm.
when Frank DeSomma passed away so did POFs quality , the old ones are bombproof, the new ones are dumpsterjuice. RIP Frank, a great engineer /patriot.
I’m not sure if this is a quality thing or more of a gas adjustment needing beefed up.
Didn’t expect this low count from an expensive manufacturer like POF….. I’ve always wondered if IV8888 just got an 415 that was hand selected to be abused in such manner 🧐
No I have seen them go through hell I think this one had some issues
From my findings IV8888 only lasted to about 850-900 rounds before it started going burst and having failures. If you can’t run this gun full auto it’s not even worth wasting the ammunition because you can’t keep that heat up

IV8888 did a meltdown of this gun years ago and he ran out of ammo after 2500 rounds. After researching, the original owner passed and the new management is not on par. Glad to see this. It was on my list to buy next. Now I know better. Great info.

That’s kinda what I was thinking, too. This POF failed faster than when iraqveteran8888 did his meltdown video. That’s a shame.
Adjustable gas blocks always fail
It's the same family that owns the company, Frank the inventor of this piston system did pass away but his wife and children took over. Agreed this is incredibly disappointing.
I believe the IV8888 had a different barrel profile back when POF 415’s came with a fluted barrel. They have used a variety of barrels from quality manufacturers like Rock Creek in the early days, Green Mountain, Saturn. Not sure who the current supplier is though. As someone that owns several POFs both older and new generations I’m surprised at this result. Makes me wish I had the ability to test my 415 Edge like this.

It is, but the gas block failed on this one with the adjustable

It would be nice if you could at least take the handguard off and the bolt and stuff out so we can look at wear and barrel droop or whatever else. Then we can get a better idea of what failed.
It was the adjustable gas block that failed. POF has replaced it and we will be doing another meltdown sometime in the future

Noticed that you ran it on an adverse gas setting. Was the upper under-gassed or?
The POF piston gas setting should be straight up for N, 45 degrees A, 90 degrees is OFF, another 45 degrees for S more gas, and straight down for regular S.
So it looks like you started with A, then turned it to N for that last try.😂
We put it on the gas system that had the best ejection rate and cyclic rate. We will be doing normal on the next meltdown

Wow that is sooo sad, Like others in the comments mentioned, Iraqvet8888 POF-USA video is legendary, but it is not just that one video, Athlon Outdoors did a 10,000 round test with a P415 Edge, and California Fish and Game did a endurance test as well that went thousands of rounds. Now, here is the thing, all those tests were done when Frank Desomma was alive and running the company. His family has now taken over and I guess the prove is here, quality has taken a dive. Which sucks. Because I really love POF-USA rifles. I own 4 of them, all made before Frank died thank God. RIP FRANK!!! Your missed!!

@GoldenWebb very good question. The POF-USA Piston gas block is based on the gas block design of the FN FAL so it is a proven robust design. I am very curious to hear what POF-USA says. Please keep us updated.

I don't know why people expected KAC to run better in full auto when all the improvements to the SR-15 have nothing to do with making it a better machine gun, but made to be slightly more reliable and the parts lasting longer.

Imo it sounded like the cyclic rate was progressively getting faster as the mag depleted like the last half a mag was cycling faster then the first half

I would be interested in seeing a Centurion Arms meltdown if possible. Their CHF barrels are made out of the same steel they make M240 barrels out of and they have a thicker chrome lining as well.

If the barrel droops, the piston gets bound up in the housing. Not uncommon in piston guns but it takes a bit to get them there

I have a Geissele and a Radian Mod 1. So I’m glad on how they performed. But I have three buddies with LMT and HK MR556. So they wanna know there rifles will perform. I have a lot of buddies with BCM rifles.

If the barrel is.bent and its a piston then the piston is also not in line with the short or long stroke to cycle the bolt

If you do, can you start out with a “mad minute” of 20 rounders just for him?
He tells stories occasionally where they had between a handful and 10 or so mags laid out in front of them in their position and on a signal everyone would just unload on an enemy position or area as fast as they could for a minute or more to get their heads down for others to maneuver.
I know thats technically already what youre doing but itd be neat to throw some 20s in haha.

This is kinda upsetting, I really thought the POF415 would last a lot longer than it did.
I wonder if they had a fixed gas block, and change it so the piston does all the gas regulation and gas input levels, if it would be more reliable and last longer?
Either way, great burndown, hope POF sends another to see if this one's a fluke.
@@RedZeppelinAirship a fixed gas block would work a lot better for the longer run but then you wouldn’t be able to adjust it. I believe the adjustable piston system needs beefed up
@@GoldenWebb What about all adjustment being on the piston itself, like a KNS adjustable piston for AK rifles, and just hava a slot in the handguard to adjust it with a bullet tip.
This would either be behind the gas block or right in front of the upper reciever.
It just seems llike something POF could improve.

That is very surprising for a POF. Those things are supposed to be top of the line. I’ve said it 100 times and I’ll say it again, just because it’s expensive, doesn’t mean it’s better. PSA with FN CHF barrels for me.
The gas block is what failed on it first. Doesn’t mean it’s not high quality but I can say it does need worked on

Very disappointed in the results. I have a couple POF rifles and bought them because they constantly talk about their ruggedness and durability!
I am as well to be honest. But I believe that they might make some changes
AR's are not made to be fired in full auto fit any extended period of time, period!! Melt down all you want and you'll get varying round counts with the exact same model and make of the same rifle. The counts will not be close from one to another with the "same" rifles..

No actually they are made to run full auto for extended periods.
Correct. They were never intended to be used a full stop machine guns. Most guys I’ve spoke with who’ve traded bullets with bad guys over sees say they would use the three round burst option occasionally and very rarely if it all used full auto. If they did, it was to protect and cover team members and get them to different positions.
Ahhhh idk about all of that. Some of the time the only difference between a full auto rifle and a civilian rifle in build quality is the lower being simi automatic. Almost all of the companies we have done have had full automatic counterparts that the only difference is a full auto lower. Just like the KAC SR-15 is simi, SR-16 is full auto, no difference besides the selector switch.
@@GoldenWebb The point is being missed here: AR rifles with Piston drive are supposed to last longer in full auto then D.I tubes examples.....you really have not addressed this very well. You should separate the two in your results

Maybe IV8888 was running Wolf or Tula or something that was super underpowered and didn't do much for heating stuff up
He did run all steel case with his meltdowns. I don’t believe it would have had much of a impact though
@@GoldenWebb well Winchester 5.56 has a lot more powder and therefore energy than any steel case, so that'd translate into more heat. Not sure how much more, but def more. You just have to do 100 meltdowns of each on the same upper and average them out lol

More proof that DI is better then Piston.. The impacting force seems to stress and bend the barrels. Like hitting super heated bar stock with a hammer. We've even seen it on AKs. I was going to say you need a small inflatable pool to drop mags into, but pistons don't last long enough

Hate to say it but I always thought IV8888's video was sus. A while back some messages involving that channel leaked and it was revealed that they take payment for a good review. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if POF gave him an upper that isn't the same as what they sell to the general public. If you look around on the forums POF customers frequently have issues with their products and there is at least one video on youtube of a POF 415 detonating in someones hands under normal training circumstances.
Suspicious to say the least.

In his video he started having failures at the 850-900 round mark. At that point, if you don’t keep full auto sustained the barrel and piston will about never fail because you can’t keep the heat up. Just like the Spear LT. It would have kept running but we knew it wouldn’t going to die anytime soon
that POF blowing up was from Combat Arms Channel. He said it was due to the remanufactured ammo he was using and not from the actual gun itself.

Buyers should avoid these POF at all costs. It took them 3 generations to get these to work and even then there were issues....they were eventually banned from our store. Now that the owner Frank has passed away, the family has totally ruined the company, like that lever action in 9mm for A CRAZY $1,800!!!! And it doesn't even take a common magazine!
Or that MP5 style 9mm for the crazy price of $1,900 when you can get a CZ Scorpion for $900? This company is totally out of touch--I dont think they will be in business much longer unless they sell it to someone else.
I’ve had nothing but good results out of the POF I’ve personally used tbh. Never had any of the other line up though

In all fairness to POF, the main differences in the Generations were evolution of the ambi lower. Not the actual operating system. The POF rifles had more issues with accuracy on the precision rifle than reliability.
@@SmallArmsSolutions We had the distributorship of POF at the Scottsdale Gun Club when they first went into the POF business, and it was sad....they took their rifles in the gunsmithing because owner Frank couldn't get the rifles to work and too many customers were complaining. in the 10 years I was there later POF was banned from the sales, never saw one bought or sold because of past issues. Gunsmiths would not touch them. Same with the crap polymer Sigs they are pushing today..all were sent back to the factory if broke, and most were pulled from the rental counter because they had too many issues. God help our military if they carry these turds. They discontinued the excellent Sig 225 and 239 for this?? The Glocks and REAL Sigs like 226/229 were never pulled..they last forever. Only reason 239 were pulled is because SIG refuses to provide support--no spare parts or mags. Why would you want a POF when you can get a CARACAL for $1,200 anyway....a far better gun...I think you said so yourself.
Well that's good news won't be buying a POF
