    I've noticed there's a lot of new Elite Dangerous players out there - so here's the beginning of an updated series of videos on how to get into the game. This first video isn't so much about how to play the game, but more on *what* to do in the game, which is a question I'm frequently asked.
    The in-game tutorials do a decent job of showing the basics. This video gives a broad overview on just *some* of the gameplay / career paths you can take within the game. In upcoming videos, I will give full details on how to approach each career along with the various ways the game can be played

      I remember I picked up Elite at the store with no information on the game, other than the info on the box.
      My introduction to the game was after a cursory search of UA-cam in which I found one of your guides. I immediately knew I had made a good choice.
      I know I wouldn't have stuck around without the YT community, Frontier should really appreciate you.

    They need to add a comms channel in-game. So you can actually talk over mic to other ships in the same systems. Instead of needing discord and adding people and all that. Be call if you could request a call to a ship and have seamless communication. Hoping there's something similar and a form of VoIP with Odyssey.

      good idea. In game bit would be fairly east to do, just have a similar mechanism to requesting docking at a station. Select ship and request communications.

      Most of the careers are pretty much the same; they all boil down to courier. Either your delivering a single item as a courier, delivering cargo as a trader/smuggler, or delivering death as an assassin/mercenary. I try to deliver at least few murders a week, and a few months ago a delivered a regicide!

    For those wanting to learn deep core mining, you will need a Surface Scanner to find locations to mine. You will need a Pulse Wave Scanner to help you find asteroids that have the minerals and prospectors Limpets to make sure. It's hard at first but you eventually start getting an idea. A seismic charge to use on fissures, these will be visible after using prospector limpets. For the charges, after firing a charge a graph will appear on the top right. You want to get in the blue area, once you have done that you will get an Optimal yield message. If you've gone too far into the red disarm your last charge by going into your contacts. The charges can be charged for 3 levels by holding the fire button, I like to fire two at full power and the rest at weakest until I hit optimum yield. After that's done back up before the charges detonate. Once that's done you will need an Abrasion blaster for freeing the minerals. You can scoop it up but I highly suggest using collector limpets to make the process easier. Some of the best minerals to find are Void Opals, Low Temp Diamonds, and Alexandrite. About an hour of mining for these things can net you in 50,000,000-200,000,000 in credits depending where you choose to sell them. The more cargo your ship can carry the better. Avoid all pirates and if you get scanned by anyone except authorities run. If you dont know where to find the tools you need look up "eddb"

      ED feels terribly lonely. Long stretches in space with no interaction other than a couple of single line comms.
      I've always said that it needs far more memorable events and deep NPCS. Think how involved the NPCS are in Skyrim - in my mind, the template for longevity, people are still playing that game, because there are so many secrets and NPCs are so numerous and interesting.

    • @StonedAF101

      @@laz001 yea, elite is great, but lonely if you venture out of the 'bubble'. 90% of people like to pick sides on the subject im about to talk about, but star citizen is also a great game where I go to fill my social needs, I come back in elite when i want to explore. I don't pick side when it comes to ED and SC, I simply enjoy both as both are great games..... However Star Citizen TO ME, seems to have more long term potential than ED. ED has been pretty much the same for a long time now, they added storys, 'alien ships', and a few new ships here and there along the years, but it hasn't changed much since horizons. What Elite could do to revive my intrest is more meaningful events and actual exploration and invasion of thargoid space, ED has alot of potential that is being wasted at the moment, content droughts are my main issue, there should be new content added quarterly, or bi-quarterly at the very least.

My current ship is an Asp Explorer, which I outfitted for mining, picked up a handful of void opals, but found it boring so I converted the ship into an exploration build and am about to head out for a while. I am seriously thinking of just running the 'road to riches' until I hit Elite in Exploration and Commerce. I just picked up the game again after some friends got it. Started from scratch and really put my all into it. After a couple hours I had a Cobra mk. 3 and was going to set it up for mining. I looked up a million tutorials because even though I had the right gear I wasn’t getting the things I wanted. Finally did it right and made my first bit of profit. And after all of that, I just couldn’t do it, I invested so much yet I couldn’t bring myself to haul rocks for the majority of this game. So I set out to become a bounty hunter, I’m aware it makes no money but... it’s just fun. So far that’s what I love most about this game, I can just do a 180 whenever I want without any obstacles in the way. Also I’m well aware that I’m the only one in my group of friends that would be able to handle something like mining anyway so I thought It’d be best if I just hunt with them.

Then you can do courier data jobs.This will increase your credits pretty slowly but if you can find a station with multiple of these data missions, you can make quite a lot of money. When you have enough money. You can either get a fighter ship to do combat, or a transport/cargo ship to do transport missions.

    ah to only be new again to Elite - it is an amazing game and the new players are in for many, many hours of a truly amazing game especially in VR - I would advise them not to chase any goal, keep them in mind but take it slow - it will get very, very grindy and then you will burn out - the game visually is great, it has some good story - it's the things you "have to do" for many of the "goals" in the game such as power ranks, guardian collection, engineering that will ruin it for you pretty quick if you focus on those - take it slow, drink it in - don't worry about fast or you will regret it when you hit that grind wall trying to engineer something or get that rank, it's happened to many of us. As a side note - I really hope Frontier really puts massive effort into making many, many more things to find out there in the massive and beautiful galaxy they created - exploring get all kinda "samey" after awhile and this is something us players who have done most of the bubble stuff could really use to get us to play more - unique finds, I like the recent discovery of a gen ship - why not more things like that or colonies or new elements worth several million credits, or a new life form even if simple - these discoveries could also help fill galnet and create new locations for commanders to visit - just a thought from a player who now avoids elite due to the grind... but to you new guys, especially if you have VR - your in for many treats - soak it all in.

    I think ED would greatly benefit to look at the way Death Stranding deals with cargo; being able to manage where you load your cargo and loading it manually in some instances adds a level of immersion that I think ED greatly lacks when it comes to trading.

I can say that new players prob wana stick with courier and delivery till you get the hang of your controls then branch out, it a lil slow but you get a better grasp of the basics faster. And one more thing... DONT TRUST AUTO LAUNCH! It turned the inside of cohelo into a pinball game the last time i used it. Auto dock is fine though

    Played for an hour and had to refund. The controls were very akward and i never played a space sim that controlled like that. It felt like ice when i would move my cursor around so the ship would be hard to keep steady. Not sure if this was intentional or not but even at 75% off i couldnt force myself to become comfortable with the ship controls.

However a couple of weeks into this illness kept me away from the game for about three weeks. My helper vanished do to my lack of communication. I have not got the latest DLC Odyssey. So I need to restart my learning curve. I need a joystick profile for the Logitech 3D also a list of keyboard shortcuts. As far as I can tell I am still on the carrier but god knows where. My first gameplay was struggling to get out of a port , accidentally firing beam lasers ,then being exploded by other ships ,then in prison. I've pretty stayed away from the game for 2 years
    What I remember is that the controls are very complicated ,and not easy.
    Also kind of don't like that it's strictly open world. I sort of prefer multiplayer games that offer solo gameplay , because I don't want to be messed with by other people.

    • @GGMatt
      @GGMatt 3 роки тому

      So you don't like the game because you completely ignored instructions the game was giving when stating not to fire weapons in a no fire zone, you don't like the controls because you haven't played long enough to bother learning them, and you don't like the fact that the game is "strictly open world but doesn't offer solo gameplay" despite their literally being a Solo-Only Mode as well as Private sessions that allow you to just play with friends and have no interaction with other players..?
      In other words, you played the game for 5 minutes, paid no attention to what you were supposed to do, didn't look at the menu's or options available to you at all , and then decided all of your failures were the fault of the game rather than your own levels of incompetence? Brilliant 👍 I've played this game for 3 days having no prior experience with it whatsoever and even I know how ridiculous your comment is.

    • @GGMatt
      @GGMatt 3 роки тому

      @@sirblue5586 I'm not trying to win, your comment was just one example of numerous comments I see where people judge and base opinions on a game despite having little to no experience with it, and certainly nowhere near enough in order to form an educated opinion on the matter. Similar to those reviews you see on Steam where people completely slander a product and then you see they've played it for 0.7 hours, like, you can't form any sort of opinion during that time so why waste your time doing so and potentially putting other people off from playing a title they might actually enjoy?
      My comment was nothing personal towards you, more so a major gripe I have with people who feel the need to express their opinion on literally everything they interact with before even remotely understanding what it is they're dealing with. But anyway, if you have the free time I would highly recommend giving the game another go at some point. Like i said I've only played for 3 days and despite it being very overwhelming at first, I've taken my time with it and now feel very comfortable with the games core mechanics and I'm having an absolute blast. If you enjoy space then I cant imagine for a second why you wouldn't enjoy this, just give it a chance and don't dive too deep until you understand the fundamentals.

    You're actually wrong about PvP having nothing linked to it... If you're half decent you can ARX cap yourself in one day of killing random cmdrs. They also get paid 10 for eating rebuy so everyone gets something. Though that being said, we NEED dedicated PvP content that has a relevant link to the rest of the game.
    I feel as though at this point that the BGS is the limiting factor regarding this. Giving Solo it's own galaxy should be implemented, and PG's should have thier capability to effect the BGS SEVERLEY limited.
    Something that effects everyone should not be accesible outside of the mode that puts everyone in the same space. As it stands the "For everyone" BGS invalidates itself simply due to this issue. Making real player driven causes only accesible to those who do purely PvE activities. The concept of trying to stomp a PmF from solo, especially when that faction is predominantly a PvP one, is utterly ludicrous and incredibly bias.
    Not only that, it makes it nearly impossible to add in PvP content that has any weight whatsoever beause people can just avoid it entirely, which in turn essentially invalidates the career choice of PvP.
    Considering that on the platform I've played three years on, the PvPers are by far the most consistent players, it's a little irritating that we have had basically nothing meaningful outside of no more random engineering rolls.
